I love the pictures everyone posts - you all look gorgeous! I'm 15 weeks PFC with only 1/2 inch of hair but it seems to be filling in nicely and I feel like I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (although eyebrows would be nice...)
Anyway, if anyone's looking for a nice, little dressier, wide-brimmed hat, I'd like to recommend one from Anthropologie that's on sale now for $29.95. It's the Ligurian Floppy Hat - it's softer than other straw hats and I love the scarf feature which you can use to hide the lack of hair below the hat.

Great pic! Love the curls on you!
-
Great curls. You are rockin them! Looks like you paid to get them. Well, you did pay to get them, I guess, and not in a good way. But, they look great!
-
kks.. wow you look fantastic..
-
Ellendou, good for you, its doen now and you did it not the chemo.
KKS your hair is gorgeous!
Today is my day to take new photos of my slowly growing hair. I will update my avatar tomorrow when I am at work. Still can't figure out how to do it on my Mac or ipad. It definitely gives me encouragement to see the progress because sometime it seems like it is so slow. but the photos make me realize that a lot has changed.

Hi there,
I remember reading somewhere on this thread about eyelashes falling out twice. Has this happened to anyone recently? I'm just at the stage where I have full coverage and can go out without a hat. Even though my hair stands stright up like an ostrich, I find it thrilling to be bare-headed. However, I noticed thant my eyebrows and lashes started thinning again, almost overnight. I'm afraid I may lose them completely. Is this normal?
Also - I love all the hair pics. Even the shortest of hairs look beautiful, as well as the bald heads.

kks, You look beautiful, strong, and happy. Thanks for sharing your picture.
-
kks, love the pic
janet, after my brows and lashes came back in nice and full, they thinned again. I had a chunck of lashes that fell out right in the middle of the line. grrr. My eyebrows thinned quite a bit and still haven't filled back in. I guess that's what pencils are for.
-
Kks, thank-you very much for dropping by. It means alot to u's baldies. Your hair color is the color I am aiming towards! Did you color it or is it your natural coloring? As for the curls I think they look great and I sure easy to care for in this hot weather.
-
Janet, my experience is practically identical to Lori's. I lost a bunch of lashes which have filled back in nicely, but the brows are slower to come back. However, unlike after chemo, neither one fell out completely. They started thinning again around six months pfc and I'm now 7 months pfc.
-
kks-rd- I love your hair. I miss my curls. Knowing my luck my hair will come back straight. You look terrific. Thanks for sharing.
-
Kks, you look beautiful.
-
kks
That's alot of hair you have going on there and I love the curls!
-
kks....you look amazing...very carefree
To all of you waiting for eyelashes and eyebrows...after 5 months PFC, I have everything back to normal EXCEPT, I only have half a brow on one side...the other is normal...bring on the pencil !!!
-
kks......SHA-ZAM! That's alotta hair! Love your style!

KKS
Your hair looks great. Was your hair curly before chemo? I am 5 1/2 weeks PFC and from the little growth I can see it looks like it is coming in straight. I was hoping for a little curl, I have always had super straight hair .
-
ossa you look great love the color!
-
Eileen, my hair started to form "ripples" at about 11 weeks PFC, and it is super-curly now. Maybe not quite as much as kks_rd, but close. My hair was curly before, but very loose and totally manageable - I miss it....
-
Lori and Nancy,
Thanks. I'm six months post-treatment, so it' sounds pretty much on track. Encouraging to know that they didn't fall out completley the second time round. And this time round, I don't have my wig, with bangs, to hide the eyebrows. I've heard hair grows faster in the summer. Hoping this is true...

I keep hearing about the buffs. Went to the buff company website but can't really tell what kind to get to hide chemo curl. I am 15 weeks since last chemo. For those who are still in the bald stage, I know it seems forever but it does return quickly. Now am dealing with "CURLS GONE WILD!". I am going to a good stylist on the 17th. She is going to look at my hair and try and to a relaxer or a straightener. I really am a sheep. Lol. I know it's better than bald but really? I didn't mind the short buzz as much as this. Some people really like curls so if that's you, you are in luck most of the people that I talked to had the chemo curl. For now I bought a couple of hats to wear for another week.
-
I have to say I love my chemo curls. I live on a lake and when I come out of the water my hair dries to a nice curl without any effort on my part. Luckily it's not frizzy.
Kat - you look fantabulous!

Hey all, I'm reporting back on the hair survey from about 20 pages ago!
There were 17 respondents. 3 had to be removed from the data set because they were less than 2 months PFC and really couldn't tell what their hair was going to be like. I made the cutoff 3 months.
So, interestingly, everyone except one person received at least four doses of cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) in some form (FEC, TCH, AC). Everyone who responded DID lose their hair, the average estimated amount of hair loss was 98%.
Not everyone reported their hair texture before chemo, so of the 11 who did, 4 began with wavy hair, 2 curly, and 5 straight. 13 of 14 ended up with either curly hair, or hair more wavy/curly than before. The one who did not get curly hair began with straight hair and still has straight hair, and received 3 doses of cytoxan.
The sample was really too small to draw any real conclusion statistically speaking but it is still interesting.

Thanks Shells43! It is very helpful to have a sense of probabilities, though the survey was small. It does suggest a strong trend toward curly, doesn't it? I was wondering if the curls ever go away, or are they permanent? I will contribute to the survey, if you're still willing to add people, once I get 3 months PFC (I'm only 6 wks now). I really can't tell if I'll be straight or curly, but I'd prefer wavy like I had before. Right now I have the 'reverse skunk' look...dark hair down the middle and white on the sides. I hope that doesn't stay permanent! Oh, and fingernails slowly lifting from the ends, almost no eyelashes to speak of, and brows are very thin and falling out while small new hairs come in. Needless to say, I'm not looking my best right now...
-
57lala, I was able to pick up a couple Buff's at Dick's Sporting Goods, if you have any around you.
-
I have FUZZ! This was taken at my son's graduation party this weekend. As of today, I'm 5 weeks PFC (I had 12 weekly taxol/herceptin and then 8 biweekly DD AC, so no chance of any regrowth there towards the end of chemo). The only thing I'm doing is shampooing and conditioning my scalp with Nioxin step 2. It's weird how white it is -- I've had black/dark brown hair all my life!
-
Kristinfro - looking great! That's exactly how mine started, and then it darkened up as more hair came in. You look beautiful regardless!
-
Yay Kristin, fuzz is the start! You will probably start petting yourself like a kitty cat like me. I cant keep my hands off my head.
Mine was clear/white to start. It is still lighter than usual on top but it seems to be darkening with time. I updated my avatar with a photo from yesterday. Eyebrows and lashes still gone the i think that there are some practically invisible fine clear ones there... So far everything is straight. hope it stays that way as mine was straight pre chemo.
-
Slak, my mother had chemo curls for a while, but eventually they went away, once her hair got longer.
-
Kristin, you are gorgeous! jpmom, great updated avatar, your hair is coming in quite nicely!
shells, thanks so much for compiling the list of statistics. It is interesting to read. I never did get chemo curls...just a slight wave. My hair has grown for 13 months since my last chemo, I've had several small haircuts. I would venture to say that my hair has hardly a wave left. With all this Ohio humidity and heat, my hair struggles to even take any kind of shape...but guess who's not complaining!
-
Thanks, ladies. And yes, I can't keep from rubbing my head!
