This is very interesting..I'm disturbed by some of it.  I'm interested to see what others have to say about this.

"Moreover, said Schnipper, finding metastases early does not improve survival in breast cancer."

Really? Then why bother doing anything? Just let it go till it's too late...Schipper might sing a different tune if dx with breast cancer.

     Anyway.

Schipper would be singing so loud you wouldn't hear the music!  I think I'm most upset with the criteria they will use regarding who gets chemo and who doesn't should a recurrence occur.  Also the cutting out of the neulasta and neupogen shots - I mean - how can they even think to do that??????

I certainly believe they are over testing and over treating.

I too was concerned about the cutting out of Neulasta/Neupogen. I used Neulasta in first round of TC and ended up hyperleukocytic (40,000 white cells), so we decided to forego it on the second round. By the end of the week, my ANC was 200 (severely neutropenic) so had to add on Neupogen shots for 3 days. With the Neulasta, I managed to stay healthy throughout my treatments.  As for the scans, I can understand that for most women it is not necessary, but if you are the one who has metastasis and catch it early before symptoms arise, I would think it would be advantageous. I would think it should be available for those who choose to use it with the doctor and patient deciding on its usefulness at any point along the way.
