Wait- are you guys having all these sweat filled hot flaes on chemo? Not even on tamoxifen or aromatase yet? Is it because of chemopause? I had none of that so far, horrible real menopause at 50 ( lasted a few years, too -HRT patches, yes, I know, bad idea) and then had ovaries out last year. Will be going on some anti hormonal thing in a few weeks. Hope I int go through that again!!!! My sis did not have hardly any SEs from tamoxifen or aromatase hope I follow in her footsteps. Worried.
-
Mine are on chemo Lisa. I hadn't gone thru menopause yet.
When I woke up in Post Op after my BMX, I was SO HOT! They had to bring a fan and cold washcloths for me. I don't have any idea how long it took them to get me to stop sweating. Then I didn't have a thing until after the 2nd round of T/C. I just get wringing wet now. I'm hoping it goes away cuz if it gets worse on Tamoxifen I'm in deep trouble......
-
Yes Lisa, mine is totally from chemopause. I won't start Tamoxifen for several more weeks. If you have already been through menopause, perhaps you won't have symptoms, but I have no clue on that one! If your sister was already past menopause when she started hormonal therapy, I would say that bodes well for you to have minimal to no symptoms. Yay for you!
-
Thanks, so sorry the chemopause is doing this to you ladies. Estrogen, I used to like it, kept me sexy and nice skin, now it ( or its lack) is a huge hassle.
My sis was diagnosed premenopause, had chemopause, and her ovaries out about 2 yrs later..I just have to see. My NP said they try one, and can switch you to another if it causes too many issues. Wonder if dosages are all the same.
Tazzy, so sorry about you nail. Ouch. Mine are still sensitive and even bumping them hurts. Taxotears are really ramping up the last few days, had lunch with a friend and had to explain I wasn't crying. Inside, outside, when I wake up.. In KMart! NP said 4-6 weeks from last treatment should go away or at least wane . Hope it's sooner.
How do we pm sandik to get on Facebook page? -
Happy Independence Day to my southern neighbors
Have been trying an Ayurvedic practice to calm my digestive tract with success - each morning start day with 3/4 c of Pomegranate Juice and 1/4 c of Aloe Vera Gel. Rectal bleeding, constipation, reflux, and indigestion have subsided. I am now 2 1/2 weeks post last taxotere - still twitchy, one black toe nail, energy slowly returning, and now hungry!!! Taste still skewed but mango sure tastes good:) Wishing everyone a peaceful day... lots of love, vjm xo
PS mostly dry 'global warmings' for me, no night sweats. hot cold hot cold hot cold - sleeping in spare room... layer on layer off layer on up and walk-about. I wonder how we will manage in hotel rooms during our holidays this week. Must ask for more Ativan lol
-
dance - I was about to chime in then I read your post. I had my NP look it up yesterday! There are a couple herbals that help with the hot flashes but, like you said they are estrogenic. He told me 400 units of Vitamin E per day and ginseng would help (did not give me an amount of ginseng). I am not thrilled to add ginseng to my diet....I like my coffee in the am and that is enough stimulant for me.
I also am hanging on to the hope that there will be no hot flashes with the tamox..... I heard it can go either way. I pride myself on being "outside the bell curve"!!
Positive thinking always helps too!
Have a wonderful 4th of July everyone....see you on Facebook as I will be baking this AM and around all afternoon!
-
Husker - I'm so excited for you!! Happy last chemo day tomorrow!
-
You can also pm me here and I will set you up on FB if Sandik isn't around.
I get about a hot flash every other day at night. I had two periods during my first three weeks of chemo, just to add to my misery. Nothing in a while - hope it's done for good.
-
My hot flashes started because I stopped HRT when diagnosed. They were pre chemo. I can say that I took a hormone suppressant years ago for one year to treat Endometriosis. I had hot flashes then. I used soy and other phytoestrogens to curb the hot flashes. I figure if it worked then it did act like estrogen in the body. So makes me nervous due to ER+/PR+ path. I have read that the level of estrogen from soy is minimal compared to that produced by ovaries and HRT. The literature appears to be split on plant estrogens which is far from comforting
-
PS I also had extreme anger #$%&!
-
Lisa, In the hot flashes and sweats game, I do think the older gals like myself (already into menopause at diagnosis) have an easier time in regard to this. I think that will be true of Aromatase inhibitors as well, so likely you can relax about that.
Day one out of BGC and feeling fine. Course the steroids are in full swing. I don't expect to crash til the weekend. Interestingly, my MO left up to me whether I wanted to get the Neulasta shot this time b/c my counts were so good last time. But I DID have the shot last time, so I'm assuming that's WHY my counts were so good, yes? So even though I had one really bad night with bone pain, I like having the good counts, so I opted for the shot again, which I go in to get tomorrow AM.
Hope you are all able to enjoy a lovely 4th of July.
-
Stacie - I agree, the fact that the literature is split on soy makes me cautious as well. I avoid it just to be safe. I gave up my favorite protein bar which was loaded with soy.
Gemmie - I'd be getting that shot, too. Don't forget the Claritin.
Happy 4th to you as well.
-
Stacie - went extreme Yowanda (see Fried Green Tomatoes) twice yesterday!!! Almost chased down a delivery van when he almost hit me in a cross walk and yelled get moving lady!!!! Hard to do after 2 surgeries, infections, 20 rads, 4 chemos, low hg and barely catching my breath. Told him to fuck off instead. Then I went ballistic on my brother-in-law when he suggested that if I wasn't up for our planned holiday, my husband might entertain the idea of taking another woman!!!! YOWANDA!!!! vjm xo
PS avoiding soy and cohash and whole flax for ER+. Ground flax ok.
-
omg VJM! smack your brother in law once for me please!!
-
VJM: too funny. I hear ya, though.
gemmie: I liked having good counts too, and am glad I had the shots
So here's my S/E dejour (sp?). I have very dark urine. Perhaps blood in my urine. It's kind of not brown, so I am thinking blood. (not quite rusty). Checked my list of call or wait til tomorrow list from MO and that's a wait til tomorrow (call during business hours). Has anyone else had this issue?
-
Ok, I re read that KJ. I haven't had it but it would concern me too.
-
OMG, vjm!!! Into the fire with the van driver and your BIL!!! I love that you told the van driver to f* off!!!! Loooooooovvvveeee it!
I have not had that symptom kjiberty. Glad they had it spelled out for whether to call or not immediately 'cause you know I'd be freakin' and telling you to call ASAP. LOL! I would suspect obviously either bladder or kidney issue. Hoping it is something minor! Any back/flank pain? I think if I recall correctly that that is on my call right away list. Most likely a UTI?
P.S. did you check yourself for a temp?
-
Thanks dance and vball. Everyone was here. We were ripping seats out of the bus. I forgot how much that sucked last time. haha They all went home to go out or whatever. I hopped in the pool for about 15 minutes, now I'm just chillin in front of the AC. My happy place.
-
Karen - are you dehydrated? I had that problem when I was in the hospital. I thought it was the color of a really dark beer.
-
I clicked join group on the Facebook page...now do I wait to be accepted?
-
sandik - that looked like a BIG project! How fun to make your own RV, though.
-
Oh. Never mind I see the rest of the instructions....ugh
-
vballmom: I think I am not drinking enough and that is the exact color I would describe it. I talked to my DS on the phone earlier, and he said, "Mom, don't you remember that happened to me in HS". (He's 28) and said the doc told him to drink up, so that's what I have been doing.
Dance: No back pain, (thank God), but I figured if I posted something on it, you would be right on it. LOL. I had a UTI once many, many years ago...No pain. I am just going to keep drinking (water!) and hope the matter ceases tomorrow. If not, I am on the phone...
Thanks, Ladies.
-
I'm so predictable....LOL
-
Kjiberty - I had the same color urine - I think it's from the taxotere. You need to drink lots of water (a lot), to flush it out of your kidneys. When I saw it, it definitely freaked me out too.
-
I hope you all had a wonderful 4th!!!
Super exhausted!! Didnt get back to sleep until around five this morning then got up early to have blood work done. This is the second week that they didnt have me in their system, ugh.
Had a mini cookout with close friends which was fun. Now preparing for Taxol #2 in the morning. So far, even with the bone/muscles pain, I’m liking Taxol WAYYYYYY better than AC.
Im also having the drenching sweats! Everyone says Im too young to be going through menopause....ha,that was the same thing they said about me having breast cancer! My urine has also darkened which is weird because I drink a lot of water. Will definitely mention it tomorrow before chemo. -
SADE,
GOOD LUCK ON TREATMENT IN THE AM. IT APPEARS LOTS OF US ARE GETTING VERY LITTLE SLEEP TONIGHT. TOO BAD WE CAN'T TURN OFF THE STEROID EFFECT AT NIGHT AND JUST KEEP IT GOIN DURING THE DAY. YEAH, IN A PERFECT WORLD. . .
-
I slept on the couch sitting up from 6:30 to 9:30 pm, woke up and watched TV until 1:00 am and then slept until 7:00 am. Today is my last day on steroids for a while. I had several drenching sweats last night, too. I am forcing liquids. Everything tastes horrible.
Sade, how are you holding up with the little ones? Do you have good support? I'll be joining you on Taxol soon.
-
How long do the steroids stay in your system? I am so tired of not getting a good night's sleep - literally and figuratively. I took Restoril last night and I still tossed and turned all night. It seems as though I can sleep well until my first trip to the bathroom and after that it's over. BGC for my this afternoon. 3rd AC.
