Child Care

Options

I have a 2 1/2 yr old son and am nervous that I am not going to be able to care  for him during treatment.  Can anyone give me advice on what arrangements I am going to need to make while having Radiation and Chemo?  He is my light :)

My son was 4 when I went through chemo and BMX with reconstruction.  I don't know if you are having surgery or not, but that would be the hardest time to take care of a child.  As far as chemo, everyone is different.  I did pretty well through chemo.  I had TC x 4.  I was usually feeling it 3-5 days after infusion.  I was tired and a bit achy.  I had no nausea at all.  My DS was in all day pre-school while I was in treatment so he was not home with me during the day.  I did get up with him every morning and get him ready for school and pack his lunch.  I dropped him off and picked him up.  I exercised daily through all of chemo.  I still made dinner for my family each night.  I rested when I needed it but never napped.  I know everyone is different though so you never know how your body is going to react.

Usually a few days after infusion is when people feel it the most.  They are down for a few days.  It's hard to predict.  Good luck!  Hugs!
