mesha_38 - I'm so sorry you are going through this. It's hard enough to have suspicions, and then to not have anyone really listen to you makes you think the absolute worst.
You definitely need a second opinion, and it sounds like someone (radiologist? GP?) is also recommending an MRI. If a doctor is recommending this, then you need to find someone who can provide you with the services you need.
I, too, had very dense breasts, and nothing ever showed up on a mammogram. When I started having problems, it took an ultrasound to find it.
When I was 18 I had a benign fibroadenoma removed that was the size of a walnut. That one didn't hurt a bit.
But eventually, my breasts got very dense, heavy, and fibrocystic, to the point where self exams were impossible. They hurt all the time, and this was waaaay before I was diagnosed with BC. I did have to watch out for caffeine, because it seemed to make the pain worse.
In your case, though, it sounds like you just need a different breast surgeon, or someone who can arrange for you to get the tests you need. Even if it's benign (hoping so!), you still need answers.
Wishing you the best....

Since you list yourself as being from Vancouver, there are many other options for BS. I would head up to the Breast Center in Seattle, I have heard very good things about it. Another option is OHSU in Portland, they are doing a lot of research and studies. Go back to your GP and tell them what is going on and get another BS.

This morning i recived a call from my insurance co. they said that the places i went did stadard rutine .then told me about fibriods that i have and cysts .and i told him look its not the prosidure its how i was treated due to my age. somethings just not right .i want them to take it out .due to the pain it's causing me. and biopsy it just on the safe side .the thing feels like it's tring to rip out of my right breast.my insurance covers it so i don't see why they can't get it done.so they said have my dr.refual me to a difrent BS.I will call him today."if they won't help me i';; waight till my boob falls of then toss it on there desk and say now will you test it ? LOL gosh i might as well go to med school and do it my self.or get a tatoo on top of my lump that says lump with a X that marks the spot or go to court and legaly change my age .at least i'll get the help i need and a sr.discount too LOL.

i was of extremely high risk. There were a number of women in the family with BC. The yearly MRI's would show more problems than a math book. I was diagnosed with Flat Epithelial Atypia. It was recommended that I have a bilateral mastectomy. I opted tram flap for my reconstruction. Yes, it involved a journey and I have had pain like I cannot even express in words. On the positive tip, I am so relieved that I have reduced my risk factors. I love my life, and was walking down a path of destruction with the twins that I had. Should I mention, the new twins are so perky!

mesha_38, I feel horrible that you are going through this! It is scary because some of what you are experiencing, I endured myself. I am 37 and began having issues 6 yrs ago with strong family history and neg BRCA1/2. Because of family history, they removed the first lump and I have since gone through many tests and frustrations. All subsequent cysts have been benign and the three most recent are quite painful. I have heard the same thing . . . caffine, diet, hormones, etc. even after a complete hysterectomy last fall. With the current pain, I finally discussed preventative surgeries, I am having my BMX in 4 wks with immediate reconstruction.
I am a little confused. Your general physician and the radiologist recommend an MRI. Are you needing a referral to a BC to order the tests? I would definately do whatever it takes to find the team that will care for you the best. There is no reason that you should be denied a lumpectomy if the cyst is causing continuous, long-term pain; no matter if insurance is covering it or not! Your age should have nothing to do with the care you receive. Cancer can strike at ANY age, not just after 40.
Wishing resolution . . . soon!
