Aqua Lymphatic Therapy (ALT)
Hi,
Dorit Tidhar posted on her ALT web site that 21 therapists successfully completed the new ALT training course, several of them are american therapists. Here is the link to her web site:

When checking the names of therapists in the USA, I noticed that Jane Armer for the Sinclair School of Nursing was in the list. I guess, it is Professor Jane Armer. I wonder if they will introduce ALT in the curriculum of Sinclair.

Nitocris, you're amazing! Jane Armer one of our LE heroes--PhD nurse, LE researcher, head of the Lymphedema Framework Project--and a woman with post-bc LE herself. (No wonder she "gets it"!)
Leah, I see from the listing there are trainned aqua-therapy folks in Israel too. And some areas of Canada, as well. Hope it spreads all over the world.
Good stuff!

The article looks terrific, Nitocris, and the last two pages in English on self care and ALT are great. You are doing wonderful work. Thanks for everything you share with us.

cool!

Thank you ladies. By sharing on this board, we are all adding stones to the pyramid of our knowledge. Knowledge is the antidote to fear (ref. Kira's signature), but
"Sharing knowledge is not about giving people something or getting something from them. That is only valid for information sharing. Sharing knowledge occurs when people are genuinely interested in helping one another develop new capacities for action. It is about creating learning processes" Peter Senge.
This is what we are doing on the Board, developing new capacities for action. Enough philosophical reflections for now... off to Helsinki for another "hot" day with the athletes

Oh.. how I wish this program would come out west. It seems like eastern Canada is so ahead of us in the LE area.
Nitocris. I really enjoy the effort you put forward to the LE cause! I get so many ideas from you.
I understand you have been burning your eyeballs out on the cute bods you are supervising at the games!
I am green with envy.

Hugz4u, Thank you. This volunteer turned out to be more fun than I expected. I decided to enjoy it and also get a good laugh. These occasions are not so frequent.
P.S. I moved the rest of the post to the "Kicking LE butt" thread.

I have to say, I see REAL merit in this. Just yesterday, in the horrendous heat we're having, I should have had a ballooned hand. But I spent the afternoon paddling around a pool, not doing any particular exercises. Dang it, if my hand doesn't look almost normal! I'm going back to the pool today...taking it easy on a floating mattress and maybe working in some of these underwater exercises. I'll let you know the results.

Nancy, that's great! Smart move in this heat, and it helped your LE also, double benefit!
Nitocris, you tremendous sharer of knowledge, I checked out the therapists list and DeCoursy Squire is on it, who is a really cool LE therapist who runs a school, she's based in Atlanta but is always traveling.
Also, there's a therapist right near where my younger daughter lives--about an hour's drive from me.
Thanks for the information--I heard Dorit speak at Stowe a couple of years ago and with your help we have this resource and the Ai Chi (am I spelling it right?)

Thanks Kira,
It's great there is an ALT no so far away from you. Are you planning to try it or even get a certification in ALT? I bet next year, we will find your name on the list of the newly certified therapists. Hopefully, in the future, we will get a few certified therapists also in Finland. For the moment, we are practicing with Dorit's DVD and that works pretty well.
Dorit is moving back to Israel at the beginning of July and I hope that after she is settled, she will also start developing her method in Europe.
Ai Chi too is really very nice and soothing. Great way to let go and excess tension in body and mind. For the lucky ones who have their own pool, it's even better. Public pools are quite noisy and I find it a bit hard to fully relax when there are so many disturbing external factors.
Nancy, one thing you can also try is to do self massage in the water. In our ALT sessions we always perform two sets of self massages. The first one with arms floating horizontally just below the surface and the last set at the end of the session, with the arm kept vertically in the water. (hydrostatic pressure at the fingers is greater than the pressure of a compression sleeve when arm is vertical). Self massage in the water gives a "final boost" and it feels really good.
If your want to have a look at Ai Chi, here are two links:.
