Pregnancy after Stage IV diagnosis

Thanks y'all for the lovely comments! With the clean scan and baby looking good on ultrasound, I feel like I can finally get excited. LuAnn, to answer your question, the last time I had a PET scan in August 2011 I was NED, and since my liver is still clear, I am hoping I am still good. I have had so much breast pain, I sometimes worry about a local recurrence, but I think it is probably just my breast is getting bigger, and stretching out my lumpectomy scar. I feel so blessed since I hadn't even been on herceptin a year when I had to stop it. Not to mention that one of my doctors told me that getting pregnant was the worst thing that could ever happen.
Names....Oh my goodness. Having such a hard time. I was convinced it was a boy, and had what I thought was the perfect name picked out (Lincoln), but a girl seems so much harder! I have a list of about 20 names, ha ha. Some of the contenders: Beatrix, Moxie, Esme, Lucia, Mokino (japanese word for possibility/hope), Rhiannon, Flannery,Charlotte, Ione, Naureen, Adia...Any input suggested...although my mom has already told me my names are all weird, so I am well aware of that, lol.
Hope you all are having good weekends. I keep y'all in my good thoughts/prayer/positive vibe mental bin daily!

I am so happy for you and family... this cancer is such a horrible thing but a baby is such a gift. I hope and pray your pregnancy will go well. For some reason your pregnancy makes my heart soar...
-
It really is amazing. I'm loving all the names you have picked, with the exception of Flannery maybe. It reminds me of the Simpsons. My sister had a baby girl on Thursday. She is adorable. I was thinking of you and your precious little bundle when I saw her.
-
Jejik, congrats! I'm so happy for you. katie, to funny, I thought Flannery was a good name cuz it's Irish then I see you are from Ireland, I concur
I don't watch the Simpsons so I assume there is a character named Flannery?

I wish u and your fam the best. I hope u have many happy yrs w your children

Hi
I am in the same boat as you. Diagnosed Stage 4 BC to the hip area. I refused chemo and underwent Tamoxifen and hormone therapy. Left all treatments to get pregnant and here I am 17 weeks pregnant!
Do send me a PM if you wish.
Take care!

Hi Jejik,
I have stage IV breast cancer (bones) and have been living with it for 2 years now. A week ago today, I had my routine scans done and on Tuesday I was notified by my oncologist that my scans showed no progression and/or activity, but that I was pregnant. I immediately had to stop treatment (Xeloda and Desonumab), which has worked in my favor for the last 8 mths. I am 33 yrs old, and I have a 3 yr old. When I was diagnosed in 2010, my son was 18 mths old and I was told that my chances of ever having anymore children were slim to none. I accepted this and decided against seeing a fertility doctor and here I am 2 yrs later pregnant, which I wasn't expecting:-). I'm not sure how far along I am because I've had irrregular periods for a long time now, but I'm assuming that I'm at least 8 or 9 wks. I will find out for sure on next Tuesday, and soon will have to decide whether to continue this pregnancy and discontinue my treatment for the time being or to terminate it. Since living with cancer, one of my biggest fears has been the thought of not being here to see my son grow up and I struggle with this issue everyday. I hope that I've been at least comforting to you by letting you know that I'm going through what you're going through, but as far as advice, I don't have any but to just pray. God Bless you and your baby and you'll be in my prayers.

Hi dha,
That is awesome, and congrats to you
!
God Bless!
-
Thank you! Please keep us all updated! Currently I am at 23 weeks. I have been having problems walking and a lot of shoulder pain.
-
Dha and bryses...I am sorry I missed your posts. Bryses, I was in your shoes not too long ago, and know how hard that decision is. Please keep us updated how you are doing.
Dha, maybe you could ask for an MRI of the areas giving you trouble? As long as they do them without contrast they are safe for the baby. I have been having a lot of shoulder pain myself. I have chalked it up to my breast getting bigger, and the effect that is having on the lumpectomy site and where they removed the lymph nodes. I have also noticed some cording I didn't have before. Are you seeing your oncologist at all during your pregnancy? Even if not, it is probably worth giving him or her a call! -
To all you pregnant ladies ... I am tingling with joy for you! I will keep you all in my prayers continuously. Jejik, you name that little girl whatever you want and don't worry about mom or anyone else thinking the name is weird. I liked all of your names except I don't know how to pronounce Rhiannon or Ione so those might be tough for teachers, etc. So much to think about when naming a baby. We adopted and two of our three were foster children who came with names so I didn't have a choice. I remember when you first told us you were pregnant ... how overjoyed we all were for you. So glad for your good "liver" news. Life is good.
-
Cheers to all of the pregnant ladies! What a blessing. A new life is the surest sign of hope for the future, so I couldn't be happier for each of you. Perhaps one of your babies will find the cure for this terrible disease...wouldn't that be wonderful!
There are a lot of incredible stories of survival out there...people like my brother with stage 3C colon cancer with mets to the lung and liver. He didn't think he would make it for even 1 year (much less see his daughters graduate elementary school, high school and soon, college) and he is doing great 11 years later with NED.
Blessings to each of you.

I had seizures and had to deliver the baby at 28 weeks at ER. He's doing ok for now. Please contact the doc seeing you so you can be taken care of b4 and be put on bed rest.
-
dha,
Wishing you all the best. All of us here will be thinking of you and your sweet little boy. All digits crossed!

Dha...will keep you and your little ones in my thoughts and prayers!
-
How many weeks are you now? I am undergoing radiation now...will start chemo later...since cancer has spread!
You take care! -
Is the spread still in your bones, or has it move elsewhere? I am so sorry to hear that! I am a little over 35 weeks. Am set to be induced two weeks from tomorrow, on the blue moon. ( ; Please keep me posted how you and your little one are doing.
-
congrats to all the pregnant ladies. keep us all up to date with how you are doing and we'll keep you in our prayers.
-
I will have chemo soon....I am really suffering because I can't walk. Would love to be able to be mobile. BC spread to other parts too. You are lucky , your baby is full term already.
-
Babies are gifts from heaven! congratulations to the pregnant ladies, I am so jealous because every now and then I thought of getting pregnant again. I was diagnosed stage 4 from the get go when I had my first baby, though I have two now, I adopted a baby boy last year from my vacation in the Philippines. I am not worried about raising them, I have a very responsible and loving husband that will take care of them when I am gone. Be careful as well on what you read here as sometimes they can give you worries, ignore those post that doesnt make sense or will do you no good :-)
Prayers for all of you.

Hi,
I know someone who is metastatic and discovered she was pregnant at 4 months and going through with the pregnancy. I know another person who is newly pregnant while on treatment for metastatic breast cancer and has to make a decision on what to do with the pregnancy in the next few weeks.
How are you doing? Have you heard from any other women dealing with Stage 4 and a pregnancy and birth?
Best wishes,
Metswarrior

I'm 31 with no children, stage 4 with mets. Honestly, I am looking forward to having children in the future even if I am unable to carry. I have a wonderful husband who has been/will be by my side no matter what happens. I hope I will be as lucky as you ladies out there--blessed with a bundle of joy!!
-
Metswarrior,
I read your post on your 2 friends who are pregnant and stage 4, how are they doing? And how are you? -
Jejik
How are you doing now??
