Pregnancy After Cancer Treatment?

Hi,

This is my last week of radiation for a Stage 1b breast cancer.  I am highly ER & PR +.  My treatment included lumpectomy with radiation.  I did not need chemo but the oncologist is going to recommend tamoxifen after the radiation is done.  I am considering declining the tamoxifen and seeking nutritional, lifestyle and exercise changes to supplement the tamoxifen.  My oncotype score is 11, which translates to 8% probability of distant recurrance with tamoxifen, and 12% without tamoxifen.

My question is how soon after treatment can I become pregnant?  I read some promising recent studies that indicated pregnancy is not dangerous after treatment for ER+ cancer patients.  The study even suggested that pregnancy may reduce the risk of recurrance since estrogen levels are reduced during that time.  My husband thinks it wouldn't be a good idea to become pregnant so soon after treatment since my body is damaged from the radiation, surgery and anesthesia.  He worries the baby would have health issues as a result.

    I'm not in your situation but I remember seeing this book (below) about a year ago at my library on their "recommended" shelf. FYI in case this is helpful.

    As an FYI, I do remember some threads on this topic before but it's been awhile and I can't remember where they were. I did post the link to this book before so maybe that's something to search as you wait  for other replies. (?)
