Ellendou-I hope your day was ok. The first day of chemo is so scary. My last chemo was April 17. I remember getting my pre chemo cut and two weeks later, the buzz. My hair is growing back, slowly but surely. Be well Ellendou.

Luvring Wow look at that hair! The color looks perfect! Nice to see you all pretty and having fun.
-
Elizabeth, this little calico is the sweetest, too. Her facial markings remind me of the Chinese ying/yang symbol for good luck, a half-white swirl and half black swirl innertwined. Lol, I sure know what you mean about demanding!

I know that shaving with a razor isn't recommended but I know my counts are good right now. I am going to have Round 3 of 4 T/C on Monday and I still have stubble which never fell out and it is growing! I look like a baby bird. I don't know if I should shave it so when when my hair grows in PFC it will be more even or just leave it alone. Has anyone shaved their head with a razor this late in the game?
-
rn4babies: My MO says it's perfectly okay to use a razor.
JoanQuilts: That will be me in a few months--searching...hoping..for growth. Thanks for a good laugh. I needed it.

Gemmie - when we lived in the Kansas City area, we rented or borrowed several class A rv's and went to lots of national parks. Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Mt Rushmore, Crater Lake, Yosemite, etc. We have dreamed of doing it full time after he retires...in a couple of years at the latest. We haven't owned one because we feel you need to use it a lot to justify the expense. With my new diagnosis, we need to do it sooner rather than later. He may retire sooner than expected if we can figure out health insurance for him. I'll qualify for Medicare in October. And we may get something smaller...we want to spend a month in Alaska and a smaller rv can go to more places.
Thanks everyone for your generous compliments! We love living on a lake and having the family come and hang out. We were away from everyone for 17 years. -
JoanQuilts, you are too funny! Maybe I will see something on my scalp with the Hubble telescope? LOL!
LuvRVing, your hair is really lovely.
I'm home for the weekend after my third week of radiation in Victoria, BC, a three hour drive from where I live. Already got some shopping and baking done - I'm sick of being sick, and just want to be my old self again. Have a good weekend, everyone!

-
Hi Ossa, I'm in Port Alberni. Love it here, and hope summer will come soon. We've haven't had nice weather out here, and I'm so ready for some sunshine!
-
liefie ....A former co-worker just moved from PA to Campbell River. Been to PA a few times, nice place.. DH used to be a commercial fisherman and fished Barkley sound a few years.

For those of you with chemo curls. I have them too and hate them! I have talked to 4 hair stylist and each of them refused to do a straightner. Said our hair is like a babies and you will damage it and make it fall out.
I have been using a flat iron on the tops and sides and leaving the back curly. Now my hair is damaged. I went for a trim last week, but she would have had to cut it really short to get all the damage gone. So be careful with the flat iron. Also my chemo curls are in the back only and she tried using several products to flat iron it out and it wasn't happening lol!
Guess we just learn to deal with it.
-
thanks for sharing ksm - i am hesitant to even blow dry! i just go with the curls - i love them b/c i always had very staight thin hair.
-
In keeping with the chemo curl discussion, I have more curls in the back by the nap of my neck and the rest seems more wavy. Everyone has different definition of curly in regard to their hair. I used to have long, thick hair that almost covered my breasts, but that was then this is now. I'm 7 month PFC
Anyway, I read about the Conair mini pro 1/2" ceramic straighter on BCO. I ran out the very day I read about it. I use it to have a little bit of bangs to frame my face and I also use it in the back to have the curls lay down. It was $20 at Bed, Bath, Beyond, but I've also seen them at Target. I work with it quickly and so far I don't have not had any damage by using it.
The other products I've been using are John Frieda Frizz-Ease "Clearly Defined Styling Gel." It says on the bottle it offers curl control and hold. My hair looks pretty nice when I use this. I use it with either wet or dry depending on the look I want. Lastly, I also use John Frieda Frizz-Ease "Secret Weapon Finishing Cream." Both these products have helped me a lot. They aren't very expensive and I have bought them from Target, Walmart and also CVS depending where I was shopping that day.

Rockym and KSM: Thanks for sharing and the advice. My hair is starting to pop up white on the top of my head--some strands more than an inch. I still have one one tx left this Thursday. I am looking forward to having hair again--not just fixing it.
-
LuvRVing, your hair looks great in your pics! You look so relaxed with your granddaughter too! I keep telling myself that I am going to do whatever I need to do to kick cancer so I will be able to enjoy mine when they come in a few years. Hope you can spend your month in Alaska. The outdoors is therapeutic to me. I started my chemo a few days ago but went camping with my boyfriend and daughter over the weekend. The fresh air made me feel better.
Yah, kjliberty on the white sprouts of hair! I have been one color for close to 10 yrs because I detested my gray but sure look forward to seeing hair after chemo, whatever the color or texture!!
-
Thanks, Hikergal! I'm so glad I get to hang out with my grandkids now that we're back in NH. They were all here today, the lake was fabulous, but I am exhausted! I may not move out of my recliner tomorrow!
-
Thanks for the hair product suggestions, Rockym.
Michelle, I am so glad you are having a great time with the grandkids.

Hair keeps tingling and scalp is sore. Am counting down. No official fall out yet, but I'm guessing any day now--am on day 12 out of chair, tx 1.
Am on TC protocol. Sound about right, ladies? Those of you who have been there, done that? I figure by end of week I may go in for the buzz.
-
Gemmie - I did TCH and that's how mine felt at about day 14....sore like I had worn a pontail too long. It started coming out shortly after and I milked it for a week before it was even noticeable. I had pretty thick hair.
-
Gemmie not sure if you saw this (I've posted it so many times I think people are going to kill me). Anyway my 1st tx was Oct 5th. In the 3rd picture from the left labeled Oct 24th you can see how thin, dried out and the receding hair line (it was just washed and dried). I too had a lot of hair so it took some time for it all to fall out. Do not in the 2nd photo the wig lady cut my hair and thinned it as much as possible so I could try on wigs.
-
Gemmie
You're tracking about the same as I did. Like Kellogs my scalp was a bit sore like I had a ponytail in too long. My hairline was receding but my TX2 I was wearing a hat to cover it so I went and had my hairdresser buzz it off for me. It was a bit chilly I have to say at first so I slept with a buff on. It might not be so bad for you since its now summer.
-
Kjiberty I am so happy that you are seeing hair come! Those white fluffies were such a happy sight for me too. It's grows slow at first but it grows. it means all those hair follicles are still there and they will recover and make nice normal hair again.
I have been taking weekly photos and can really see the difference when I look back now. It's kinda fun. I am going for my last taxol today. Hoping the hair will really start to darken and grow once that washes out of my system. Mine is still very fine and baby soft. My kids are petting me now. It really feels and looks about like what my kids hair looked like when they were about 6 months old. I will update my avatar when I get to work tomorrow. Still can't seem to get this website and my Mac to cooperate.
I really like this shampoo and conditioner by Revita. I bought some Nixon and like it too. The funny thing is I like my husbands Revita better and he likes the nioxin so we have switched. -
Gemmie.......I had my first tx on May 15. I got my hair cut much shorter on May 25 when my scalp started tingling. That was a Friday...over the weekend it started coming out in strands and clumps by Tuesday. I had to shave it then. So....about 15 days from infusion.
-
Yep, I see what you mean, Iago. I like how you kept a record. I will try to do that just for my own sake. Anyway, I've just styled my hair and am going out for a gal pal day. My hair looks rather good, eve though in the shower a few small clumps from the lower neck in back I did pull out rather easily. I figure this will most likely be my last good hair (my own hair at any rate) day for a long tome, so I might as well enjoy. Will try to post a pic, although I haven't figured out how to do that except by changing avatar. Helpful hints anyone?
-
Gemmie: My hair started falling out in strands on day 15, clumps on day 16. Had it buzzed off on day 17. I had big patches on my scalp on day 16. Not a pretty site. And I was at a work meeting with a room full of people. OMG. How embarrrassing.
JPmomof3: I had a massage today at the Cancer Ctr. for Healthy living and she said I had a lot of new hair growth in the back of my head. I still have one last treatment on Thursday. I wonder if it's done falling. I should do a weekly pic. I think it's the hairy Eastern European coming back with a vengeance. Not to mention my chin hairs are there....Need to find the tweezers--I am back in action, baby! I actually shaved my legs before my massage and there was hair on the razor. Yippee skippee!!!! I tell ya--we are a hairy family. My poor daughter has been using dipilatories above her lip since she was 9!!!!! My son has hairy fingers and a hairy back. Hair is my destiny! LOL
-
kjiberty...in that case you will be prepared to shave the damned white fuzz off your face and chin!!! So far mine hasn't come back.
-
I shaved my face fuzz off......I concur, it hasn't come back! Just be real gentle!
-
I used nair on the face fuzz. It was the nair for faces. It gave me a slight rash for a day but it went away. I probably left it on too long. Those hairs are really fine and probably only need half the time they say in e the box. No re growth on the face hear yet but it has only been a week.
I love the weekly photo thing. I look in the mirro every time I go by an d sometimes think nothing is happening but when you take those photos you can really see it happening. -
jpm...I considered using Nair for faces too but was afraid of rash as well. It's been about 2 weeks and nuttin yet!
-
kjiberty that massage sounds good. Might have to check that out on a good week.
luvRVing enjoy your beautiful summer in NH. In Phoenix it is so hot that I feel cooped up. Did end up going camping over the weekend and found it really relaxing. Just brought my pharmacy with me for the variety of possible SE's.
Good to know when to expect the hairloss, hoping to hold out to 3 weeks but it sounds like those of you on TC went about 2 weeks.
Has anyone had any luck with shampooing their hair only 1 time per week to help hold onto it longer? I bought some of the Nature's Gate shampoo and conditioner but they did not suds up which only makes one want to put more in.
