So, there is more to the story. Cardiologist called me today. I have long qt syndrome. The heart monitor showed that it did not get shorter when I was sleeping. It did not get shorter when I was on the treadmill. They give beta blockers for this. But, I was already on them and it didn't help. This is something that is hereditary. So, he wants me to have my kids and my sisters go in for cardiograms.
I asked him if I need to exercise more, or if Im not allowed to exercise. He said that I can continue as normal, and he would talk to me more about it later. Trying so hard not to google too much. haha
So, I guess Im glad I got cancer so they were able to find this problem? Looking for a silver lining.
-
Sandik, I'm sorry to hear about this new development! At least it doesn't sound like a huge medical emergency from the way the cardiologist is reacting; must be a good sign that he says you don't need to change your activity level. I dunno, I hate to say getting BC is ever a good thing, but I'm a huge believer in silver linings, too. I guess they are thinking that in addition to the heat and the dehydration the other day, this must have led to your fainting episode.
I'm sending you a purple burst; be strong, sister! ((((((((Sandik)))))))
-
Sandik- Sorry to hear about the heart condition but at least it has been found. I'm sure you will be monitered a little more closely which is always a good thing. I know you are strong and will get through this!!!! HUGS and lots of positive healing and calming prayers, thoughts and energy heading your way!!!
-
Gemmie- Thank you! Feeling a little tired and dazed, but other than the tingling in my toes, not bad at all! I am trying to remember to drink, drink, drink!
So happy for you, Isharvey!
Fierro - I wish a headache free day for you tomorrow and a good night's sleep!
-
Ladies......the movie "FIVE" about 5 women diagnosed with breast cancer is re-airing on Lifetime Movie Network on Sunday, June 24th at 6pm. I missed the original airing and have heard it's very inspirational. Here's a link that tells you more about the movie: http://www.mylifetime.com/movies/five/about
-
Thanks everybody!
Sandik - uggghhh! just what you needed right now, right?! But you are right, this really could have been a blessing in disguise!
Fierro - I swear we are twins. I also always run a temp in the 97s and if it goes up at all I get a headache. It went to 101 a few years back and I thought my head would split in 2 but luckily I next to never have one. I would definitely call the doc if it goes back up again.
Minimal side effects to everyone!!
-
Thanks, m4babies - I just asked my husband to set it to record on our DVR.
-
Sandik - so sorry to hear about the heart diagnosis. I wonder if this is part of why you passed out in the heat? Gosh, I am so sorry you have this extra worry on your plate. Hugs to you! Enough already!
rn4babies - I watched that movie FIVE...it is good...and a tear jerker!!! Just for all to be aware - if you watch it, OMG, make sure to have plenty of Kleenex. It will stir up all kinds of emotions.
Fierro - I run in the 97's, too. Since I had a fever in the 99's almost nonstop my first 6 weeks of chemo, I was pretty dang miserable. Once we decreased my dose to 85%, my fever came and went - was not as constant. BTW, my doc ran all kinds of tests and never found an infection. Sometimes you can get a fever from the chemo itself. Weird things this stuff does to us.
-
Marcia.......I've already DVR'd it as well!
-
rn4babies - I just saw that I read your name wrong! My oldest son was in the NICU for 6 days. I am so thankful to all of his nurses for helping us through those rough days. I don't know if you're a NICU nurse, but it doesn't matter. You have a very hard job! Thank you in honor of all of those babies' mommies!
-
Anyone having food cravings or really dislike something they use to like to eat? All of a sudden I want to salt everything. I never use salt with the exception of french fries and tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant, now I want salt on everything?! Sweets are disgusting, as is ice cream and I also suddenly like multi-grain cereal with fruit - in my entire life I've never eaten cereal, hated it, but loving it now!
-
Rgina ...my MO said that might happen to me. Instead, I just couldn't taste anything. Haha
-
Sandik: Sorry to hear about your heart condition. Hang in there
Wishing everyone minimum side effects through the weekend.
I received a surprising phone call today. I have been involved in a lot of not-for-profit groups and one of the gals who calls to ask for donations called me today to see how I was doing. She then told me she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in both her breasts. She's 39, and went to a PS for breast implants. He made her have a mammogram and that's how they found it! I told her about this website and all the wonderful ladies on the different forums and how I have found solace in you ladies. Hopefully, she'll have the strength to get through this. She's scheduled for a DMX on 7/12.
-
Marcia.....I am a labor and delivery/post-partum/nursery nurse. I work in a small but very busy hospital. The very sick babies are transferred to a large city hospital NICU. I also very much admire NICU nurses. I don't think I could do that. I love what I do but it can be very stressful, too.
-
rn4babies: Like Marcia, I thought it was m4babies. I need reading glasses--it's the chemo!!
-
It looks that way to me, too!!
-
It's the blurry eyes from the chemo--I swear!
(I was thinking you had 4 kids)
-
Sorry Sandi about that heart! Hope it is not serious.
DVR'd the movie.
Love to all. Tired from bc exercise class... -
Kjiberty...no...just one...lol
-
Ok. New day. Its beautiful outside, but hot. I'll look at it from indoors. Haha
And its Friday. What do you all have going on this weekend?
We are stripping out our school bus/ camper tomorrow. Its old, needs to go to the scrapyard. We bought another one, so we will be redoing another for nascar camping.
Sunday I have an engagement session. Sunset session at the lake. Already chugging the water to be sure Im hydrated! If I go down here, Ill fall in the water and drown! Haha -
Sandi: Don't work too hard! I am spending the weekend doing things with girifriends I haven't seen in a while. My DH is going to a NASCAR dirt race near Milwaukee, so it's just me and the dogs. Getting a mani/pedi with a friend tomorrow, going out to the movies tomorrow with another friend, dinner tonight with another, and doing my pre-chemo shopping before next Thursday. At least I have energy this weekend. Stay hydrated, girl!
-
Sounds like you've got a fun weekend planned! Enjoy it!
-
Sandik - Sorry to hear about your heart problems. But glad they found it now and hopefully can control it! It is weird, but I just had a similar experience - finding something else because of the breast cancer. About 4 weeks ago the top of my right foot starting hurting. I told my husband it felt like a horse stepped on it. After a week I went to my PCP and he diagnosed tendonitis. Yesterday I went for a bone scan and the tech asked me if I have problems with my foot. I told her my story and she said it looks like I have a broken bone on the top of my foot! So now I'm waiting for my PCP to get the bone scan results so he can tell me what we need to do about it.
This weekend I have shopping to do to get ready to start chemo on Thursday. Anyone have tips on some must have items? I plan to get some Imodium which we don't have on hand. I'm hoping for the best but want to be prepared! At least the weather has cooled off here, 80's for the next few days.
-
Sandik- Take care of yourself before you go out in that heat this weekend and do anything outdoors!!! When I used to be a chaperone for my daughter's lacrosse summer teams, I used to fill sprayer bottles with ice and cold water to mist me and anyone else to keep cool. i also had cool face towels in zip loc bags to help cool off. You just dampened face towels/hand towels with water and freeze them overnight. I also froze water bottles overnight so that the water in those bottles would stay really cold.
kjliberty- Girls weekend sounds like fun!! Stay well so you can have that last chemo next week!!!
Planning to keep cool this weekend by staying indoors!!! Have to do my nails for next Tuesday's #4 round. I have only 2 more after that!!!
Have to go to the internist today to get a quick check up to get my high blood pressure meds refilled. I called yesterday to get an appointment and was told come in on Friday. I also told the office that I need to be isolated from other people in the waiting room since I'm having chemo. My internist is also an infectious disease doctor. It looks like I'm getting the special treatment here since he doesn't see patients on Fridays and has only one patient coming in today besides me for a stem cell therapy treatment. I'm still wearing a mask and won't be touching anything in that office today!!!!! Thank goodness for kind people who work for the doctors I see. The idea of sitting in a crowded waiting room is not something I want to do!!!!
-
I hate blurry chemo eyes! Does anyone get a low dull ringing in their ears? Don't like that either. And last night I looked close in the mirror (something I try not to do these days) and yes, my eyelashes are nearly gone. I still have eyebrows! Strange, but I am already over it.
My weekend: #1 -I absolutely refuse to think about next Tuesday! I am lucky to be feelling fairly decent, so I am going to ride my bike a bit on Saturday and go to dinner with some friends (hate to spend $ on food I cannot taste) and I may even have a sip of my husband's beer... wow, I am a rebel. I got my T-shirt yesterday, speaking of rebel!!!
I am going to wear it Sunday for an easy jog along the Coast Hwy. Can't wait to see the looks & hear the comments, I may even go bald (and beautiful)! I got a 30% off from Kohl's this week and I felt like my father!!! So excited!!! Until I realized I cannot buy any clothes
...it has been since February and I still cannot seem to get that through my head! I am going for retail therapy anyway, so there! I can buy shoes and home stuff and clothes for my handsome hubby.
Stay cool and hydrated - - most of the country is runnin' hot compared to SoCal!
Thoughts and prayers with all of you dealing with the harsh SE's today.
Had a "chemo brain" moment trying to spell "speaking"!!! Really?
-
Debbie- Go to the following link which is the first thread on the chemo forum section and you will find further links for preparation lists. The lists will have get you started. Although you may not need to purchase everything on the lists, it is helpful and great resource.

Trichick - Love retail therapy!!!! Thinking I might do some of that myself today and this weekend!!!! Walking in air conditioning and shopping and buying is definitely a trifecta in my book!!! It is exercise, hunting for bargains and of course the victory part-- bringing home a few shopping baubles/stuff!!!! My new body hasn't stopped me from buying clothes for myself. Have a wonderful weekend!!!!
-
Tonight I am going to my nephews 21st Surprise b day party. I am so excited because it is a crowd and he has never had a big hooha, and expects nothing. He has low self-esteem so he'd never expect it for "him".
Tomorrow my hubby son and I are going to a classic concert and dinner.
Sunday a b day lunch for my granddaughter. Today I get to walk the mall getting gifts. In between I am resting as much as possible. TGIF. My job is so mentally intense, even a full weekend is. Cake walk. -
We have had VBS all week and this is the first year I have not helped. It was hard! I have dropped my girls off and went home or my friend has picked them up for me and brought them home! We had over 100 kids so definitely not able to help this year the germs are probably crazy!!! LOL
I really, really need/want a girls weekend!!
-
trickchick - I have had ear ringing since starting chemo. The carboplatin in my regimen is responsible. Mine is high pitch. It is really loud for about 3 to 5 days after each treatment, then gradually decreases in intensity, never fully going away. I've been getting baseline audiograms about 3 weeks after each chemo to make sure I am not developing any hi frequency hearing loss along with it. The ear ringing is permanent, but most people accommodate to it and can live with it...the key is not to obsess on it, find distraction, etc. Hope that helps! It really scared me when it first happened as it was also associated with loud popping a couple times from my ear. Oh and when I open my jaw wide I can hear a strange sound, too, different from the ringing.
melrose - that is great that your doc's office is so helpful with following the neutropenia precautions. When I went to the ER, they wouldn't let me sit anywhere different. I had to request a mask, and DH put me in a wheelchair as far away from the other patients as possible. Uggh, what a nightmare that was...one I don't want to repeat!
My weekend? To be determined based upon my counts today! Going in soon - come on whites! Hoping they'll be up enough that I'll feel safe enough to get out and about. A good friend of ours plays adult soccer, and we'd like to go catch one of his games.
