Just had to share......

I woke up Saturday morning with a slight lump on my cheek that was a bit red and I didn't feel great.  Since Saturday the cheek area has because very red, hot, a little sore and I was still feeling under the weather.  This morning I woke up with swollen lymph nodes so I was off to urgent care....diagnosed with cellulitis in my cheek.  I was not expecting cellulitus in my face!

Antibiotic shot, oral antibiotics and topical antibiotic cream are now in my life for the next 10 days.

Oh, not you too! Do you have a tooth abscess? My dh used to get parotid gland infections, and his cheek would blow up like a chipmunk.

We all need a major break

    Hi Kira,

No mouth issues at all.  Doctor thinks it might have been a bug bite or something along those lines.  I am thankful it isn't in my LE arm.

Funny you should mention the parotid gland....my dentist saw my post on Facebook this morning and sent me an email about that very thing.

It sure seems like there is a "rash" (no pun intended) of cellulitis cases lately.

Cheryl, my husband is a dentist, and doesn't even have a facebook page, what a Ludditte, but he kept getting stones in his parotid gland, and would blow up whenever he ate, and then got more and more infections and finally had the gland out by a parotid gland expert at Mass Eye and Ear.

I found him in recovery--and the main risk of the surgery is severing the seventh facial nerve and getting paralysis, and he was moving his face all around. He has no memory of that....

I think we need some kind of healing ceremony to convey strength to our immune systems and freedom from infection.

Well, the yogurt people are happy.

It is official: we need a shirt that says:

"I SURVIVED THE CELLULITIS SUMMER OF 2012 AND ONLY GOT THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT"

Seriously. Even a woman's cheek is not sacred!

    Heal my friend!

Having seen some of Moogie's amazing art work--she is a major talent--I'm thinking it would be an amazing tee shirt.

    And summer just started yesterday.....

Cheryl, hope you're a whole lot better today.

I am very concerned this morning as well as my husband.  Red area is larger and more swollen even with all the antibiotics (shot, oral and topical).  I do NOT have a temp but still feel rather crappy.

At this point, I am not sure what to do or who to see.  Any suggestions?  The husband is worried they will have to cut the infection out of my face.

Cheryl, the next step wouldn't be surgery, it'd likely be IV antibiotics. Head for your doctor or the ER right away. Take whatever you need for the hospital with you. A hospital stay would actually be REASSURING, as they can follow you closely. Take something comfy and a good read.

    Heal quick!

Hi, Cheryl, I am also a cellulitis and LE survivor!!! Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers, to get your situation under control. Thank goodness we have Binney and Kira here for support and guidance. They are like having doctors on call all the time. Don't worry you will be O.K. IV antibiotics will do the trick. Hugs!!!

Cheryl, sometimes, if there is a fluid collection, they do drain it--like an abscess. Please go back to the ER and I'm hoping you're getting the prompt help that you need.

    Healing thoughts.

I returned to the urgent care, which is connected to an oncology/hematology office and received iv antibiotics in their chemo room.  The plan is to see the doctor tomorrow around noon for another iv, possibly even Saturday.

I certainly hope this rids my body of the infection!

Cheryl: My heart goes out to you! This cellulitis is dang ridiculous! Rest and if the hospital is needed: do not fight it.

Last place anyone wants to go, but Binney is right---it will at least put you in the best situation. You may need chocolate truffles from Belgium. The head nurse will probably agree with me. I am pretty sure on this. It is an off-label use of chocolate but cheeky cellulitis demands high grade chocolate remedies...no Walmart Hersheys for you!

( Binney: I love the shirt idea! I am laughing too hard. Only you great gals understand! The strange LE drama we live...)

Cheryl--Hope you are doing better.  I just got some Old Kentucky Chocolate BOURBON Truffles in a art place in Kentucky.  A couple of those are indicated.

    Good Afternoon,

Thought I would post an update on the cellulitis.  The doctor believes the cellulitis was triggered by a spider bite since the wound on my cheek has a blackish center.  The iv antibiotics (three rounds) seem to have worked and now I am just on the oral.  Thursday I see the dermatologists to see if we can minimize any scaring from the wound and for a freckle check.

Thank you all for the great support!  I am on the road to recovery.

Cheryl, I'm so glad it's better, and hope the derm has good healing suggestions. And all the freckles are fine too.

    We were worried.
