An Alternative approach to Stage IV Health and choices

Essa, I lost the swelling around a smooth almond sized firm lump over my ribs when I lost weight. Hopefully that means the swelling was fat. It had been there since the BMX and all the docs say it's a lipoma. They also say the knobbly lump below the inside of my elbow is a lipoma but it's tender if squeezed. I have other long-standing small lipomas that are smooth so I'm sure the knobbly one is something else. My MO says it's in the wrong place for a lymph node so we're just watching it. The not knowing is scary so I mostly forget about it.
I think the diets are important even if they can't cure anything. I want that estrogen producing fat tummy gone, or at least shrunk. I can stay on them as they make me feel slim, strong and healthy. And I allow myself to relax a bit when I'm eating out as it's not often. Feeling deprived just sets us back so enjoy the occasional cheat ladies.

A point I was trying to make last night but kept forgetting to even as I wrote then this morn took me 20 min to remember what the three were.... but I did, if it is the right three, wwill fix it if it is noot..... and this is why no one would hire me even if they wanted to....
The healer I am working with said that in a shared 50 yrs of experience, sshe and her mentor find tht when someone has
parasites, virus, bacteria all strongly indicated from tests that there is always cancer.
Work on those, cancer cannot be there for some reason.
I don't know, but the detox sshe designed sure was effective on the candida at least and these three small masses on right side of cancer breast.
JLW - the lump, I have a new one too.... Woke up this morning with a cyst shape in lower right stomach area, near skin. Very there. It was stinging perhaps from pressure of sleeping on that side. That is the only way I found this one but no denying its existence.
Lymph nodes load up w toxins and die off in any detox is toxic, cancer die off, parasite remmanants, bacteria, etc. Now I am going to study the lymph areas more, is ther one there.....
FOODS - there are so many good foods to just have each day as staples. We all could shaare what we do. There are threads for gluten free and sugar free on bco too.
My new thing is cruciferous veggie soup using mainly bok chhoy, turnips, greens of all kinds inc turnip, beets, kale, spinach, chard, curly endive, throw in some brussel sprouts and a little brocolli if you like, a can or three of organic tomatoes too, and some carrots or celery. Eaat every day even 2x a day.
Also black beans cooked in seawweed 1/2 c 2x day as this soaks up thee excess estrogen in body and is one of strongest at blocking the receptor sites for the ER+ - don't understand how it works really, just what I am reading. So that alone fills a person.
I was told I do not have the energy in my body to digest food, that raw food is beyond my body so must cook everything, eat warm foods, so I do, except the occ saladsa nd raw fruits cuz they are so good, I eat warm foods.
Was told to eaat more radish, horseraaaddish and pumpkin seeds raw soaked and sun dried a certain way each hour to eat that, to get rid of parasites and more.
Eating quick before CT PET scan, it's in 5 hrs, no eating 4 hrs before.

Diane...have you heard of skin brushing? You can use almost anything to achieve the results of increased lymphatic flow and overall detoxification. I have a clairsonic with a body brush attachment, however, you can use a fuller brush...or even your own fingertips.
I've attached a photo...I find that holding my arms above my head when I'm brushing gets things moving much faster.
I also rebound on a mini trampoline. Small gentle bounces. It's good cardio too. Send out a request for one to your email contacts and you will be surprised at how many people have these collecting dust in their basements or attics and would be more than happy to be rid of them! I got one within hours!
-
I was just going to do that tonight because of the radiation from today's tests. I am supposed to be rebounding, per healer, but garden instead, so will try to get the rebounder asap. The brush I have - it's a long-handle back brush and use it on dry skin for skin brushing. Need to step up for all I know will help me. Thanks for the diagram for directions.

Want info on food that makes a difference, this was on natural girls today. Amino acids, glycine, etc.
I have been reading links from links for three hrs. Am onto it. Contacted co for more info, should I say clinic, but I will try to not be gullible.

Diane Essa: I understand your frustration with following diets...we all have the same problem, but we can't have it all our way. We either have to do the conventional treatments...chemo and rads, or BMX, or we follow the anti cancer diet and supplementation program to a tee. The definition of insanity is "doing the same things over and over and expecting different results". If you were a diabetic you wouldn't NOT take your insulin shot because if you didn't you would die. We have to treat bc the same way...if we don't do the program, we subject ourselves to serious consequences...we don't have a lot of options.
I hope I didn't overstep my boundaries, and if I did, I'm sorry, but I care for all of you on this thread and I want to see you doing everything you can to fight off this beast.
-
Kat, re pawpaw, when you said you are going to introduce that, in what way?
Kaara, you are right, but its hard to stay strong at stage IV, also when the majority are telling me its futile, and living in 'oncology world' wears me down
what supplement program do you follow/believe is the best now that you have been doing this for a while?
I was thinly slicing up apples to make a strudel on sunday, chopping away madly. I felt a hot prickling sensation on my hand, kind of between the thumb and finger joints. To my horror, i saw a really prominent vein swell up before my eyes, and a lump develop in it as i was watching. I thought "sh*t! its a clot..if that moves im gone"..so while i was deciding what to do i drank 2 glasses of water as i remembered my breast nurse telling me to keep hydrated re tamoxifen ( probably a bit late for that but i wasnt thinking clearly lol) then i thought, well, if im gone im gone..and went and sat outside. I was contemplating whether i should go to emergency when my daughter got home, and it burst!. I showed it to the onc when i saw him the next morning, told him what happened, and as if he didnt hear me at all, he said 'you probably hit your hand, or its a bite'....umm, ok. Then we went on to the more important lump on my neck.
When i had a blood test wednesday, i asked the woman while she was doing it if she had heard of this happening, she said it was a hematoma, and she had a woman who had one from vigorous knitting!..i now have a huge bruise along my wrist and hand. My body seems to be ageing rapidly, im only 48.
Dianeessa: We do need a plan. I think if i wrote it all down and put it on the fridge, or a wall, in easy to read format, that may help. I think i need to make it so simple, like a weekly roster, with reminders, daily recipes, and words thrown in to keep me positive. I made a big list of the anticancer foods and diet from Ian Gawler's book when i first read it, but cant find it since the move. Maybe my brain is affected by tamox, or the stress, or the bc, because the thought of working that all out again is daunting to say the least.
smiley: thanks

Since Paw Paw and Protocel come from the same family so to speak...they both work to reduce ATP at the cellular level. They also require that you follow the same guidelines in regards to supplements and diet so that's easy. Keep it simple and "eat like your grandparents ate". Wholesome, made from scratch meals and farmers markets. Nothing processed. animal protein, whole grains and vegetables. Yes, some fruits, but for me, the Vit C in it seems to be working against the progress. (more so than Vit C from vegetables)
I spoke with the Naturopath and she recommended that you start Paw Paw after you've been taking Protocel (as directed) for at least 5-6 weeks. Both can be stand alone treatments but the Paw Paw gives an extra punch. (Initially with Protocel, lysing is fast and furious and you don't want to 'clog' things up by adding more lysing. Slow and steady wins the race.) I started with 2 caps three times a day (with meals) but had severe vertigo. The main side effect is supposed to be nausea but for me it was vertigo. I cut back to 2 caps twice a day (about 12 hours a apart) and I tolerated that fine and was able to titrate up to 3 times a day again which I'm now taking opposite of Protocel.
Sometimes I feel like I can take Paw Paw or leave it. It can really kick your a** with intense immediate fatigue so if you need energy for an event or something, I skip one of the three doses. I said before, Protocel is my main treatment and Paw Paw is more of a supporting player.
It's interesting though...once you become in tune with your palpable tumors you can almost schedule your life around the waxing and the waning knowing you probably ate something you shouldn't have (fruit) or you need to go rebound on the trampoline.
Then, just quite your mind and listen to what your body is telling you.
-
that's-life: My diet is pretty simple...anti-cancer. I have no white stuff which means no sugar, white flour, potatoes, white rice, pasta, or white grains...all which convert to sugar. Sugar is the enemy..this we know. I eat only fruits, veggies, lean protein, nuts, seeds, and take a bunch of supplements that were recommended by my ND. They are Iodine capsules, mushroom, a powdered vit C, MSM, a B12 capsule, and low dose Naltrexone which is supposed to kill any cancer cells that might be circulating. I also take a probiotic and some digestive enzymes, because it's important to keep your gut in good working order. Most of our immune system is located in our gut and it needs to stay in optimal condition.
I've found good substitutes for pasta...I use quonia pasta, also brown rice, and sweet potatoes for white potatoes. We've also gone 95% gluten free with no wheat at all. That has made a huge difference in my well being. I never knew it, but I have an intolerance to wheat products. Corn products like corn tortillas and corn bread are ok, so I substitute that a lot for bread.
We invested in a vita mix blender and use that to make green smoothies and blended soups with lots of veggies in them. They are delicious and you can do them raw if you want. This blender will blend anything into a smooth consistency. I like it better than the juicer because you are getting the fiber as well as the juice from the fruits and veggies.
Do I cheat....of course I cheat. I just had a huge piece of red velvet cake and some ice cream for my birthday treat, but then I go right back to the diet. It's a constant work in progress.
I know there are people who have followed this diet and still have recurrences or progression, so it isnt 100% guaranteed, but then neither is life. I tell myself that I am on this diet in order to feel better, and I certainly do feel better than I did before I got bc. I think my SE's from the tamox are very manageable, and the diet may have something to do with it. If I cheat, I usually am rewarded with hot flashes all evening:(
Kat: I'm definitely going to get one of those rebounders and use it daily. I had one years ago...have no idea what happened to it.
-
It is difficult to get with a program. Or to change programs. There are so many to choose from, and we have no idea what our bodies will respond to. Take for example an alkalizing diet. One of my cousins told me I should get into this. His wife with TNBC is into this. They are both doctors. Still I was skeptical. Then I saw an MDAnderson doctor respond to a question on blood alkalinity, basically putting it down, but said it was good to eat 7-11 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Same method, different rationale. So I chose 8 servings for myself as a minimum. As for execution, this means I have at least two kinds of veggies in the freezer and a bag of carrots in the vg compartment. Then I buy at least 4 different vgs and fruits everday plus a salad. So that makes 8 or 9 servings, depending on the salad. I usually go to the grocery after the gym when I'm hungry because I otherwise wouldn't buy so much.
In the meantime I do think there is something to an alkalizing diet. The following is from Quackwatch (using one of their arguments against alkalizing):
When you take in more protein than your body needs, your body cannot store
it, so the excess amino acids are converted to organic acids that would acidify
your blood. But your blood never becomes acidic because as soon as the proteins
are converted to organic acids, calcium leaves your bones to neutralize the acid
and prevent any change in pH. Because of this, many scientists think that taking
in too much protein may weaken bones to cause osteoporosis. With our bone mets, we certainly don't want calcium leaving our bones constantly in an effort to neutralize the acidity. Bone health is paramount for us, that's why I think exercise and diet help.
-
Kaara - perhaps your rebounder is hiding in the basement LOL - I think my daughter has one she does not use.
I did the dry brushing this morning. Not sure what to do with my underarms though.
Kat - the Paw Paw - I did not know it makes one tired. Perhaps that is why I am so tired, for one of the first times since I started the kinesiology testing, I got a yes for Paw Paw about a month ago. So taking two 3x day for most part. I have been so tired. Feels like a huge turkey feast w tryptophan injected in me after I eat a small meal. This morn had blueberries, kashi, raw milk and a scrambled egg - took the Metformin and Paw Paw and a probiotic with that and am exhausted. I said, this is why I go 17 hours without eating to starve cancer cells, so I am not tired. But you say the Paw Paw can do that. I only knew it could/would make one quite nauseous if taken on empty stomach or too much. Good to know.
ThatsLife - the hematoma - must have been quite alarming. Did she say they can pop up anywhere with brisk exercise? SO many pitfalls in healing choices. Take care. I do know what you mean in a sense about the futility. Sometimes I get there. Like I was this last week, all the thousands of dollars and giving up everything to move us and me having allegedly a mass in my breast 5x larger than the last one...... that feels futile. I cannot believe it is really there, but we are checking in case. But that could mean everything I have taken was for nothing. We shall see. I think morethaan anything that the die off of cancer microbes and Candida and such are getting the best of me sometimes.
Kaara - the food plan. Yours is great, an inspiration. You do not overstep bounds in speaking up. I need to hear it, we all do. To be Stage I or IV means that wwe have to look at these factorrs, food included, health, choices, bad habits, toxins we are expossed to. About the food, we live to eat or eat to live. I have always been more the former but am not a binger or overeater. I just enjoy food, some don't. I love brussel sprouts more than ham, a good peach more than peach pie. But to give up so much, like I have been told in my food detoxing and cancer dealings to completely give up fruit for months on end, no grains at all, etc. This is more like forever if one thinks perhaps they have a year at best to enjoy food but are told to gamble on it and give it up and maybe the cancer will go away and they can eeat a little of it again. Macrobiotics... people go on that food plan for cancer and when they go off the cancer comes back..... there are stem cells undouubtedly and the sugars are again there for the cancer cells to flourish and begin division too so it is then fast and furious. I guess what I always had in mind was to find the waay to transition supplements that are extremely effective and would ward off these bouts for the rest of my life. And to transition with the foods too. Sometimes sugaar is okay sometimess it is NOT. But I can see the white stuff and sugars have to be the rare stuff in my diet, it is a do or die kind of deal for either allopathic choices or alternative choices.... the allopathic medical community does not usally tell their patients tht they have to do a certain diet without sugar, in fact, I have read that in the chemo clinics there are donuts often, don't know but wow. Clueless. Unfortunateely, they also don't tell the allopathic patients not to use the usual deodorants and this is one thing I knew for years. Unfortunately, I ignored that in the hottest summer, but the rest of the year I used a completely natural herbal along with natural completely no questionable ingredients in my personal caare or toothpaste. I can do all that, but the food is my issue. I could literal eat myself to death w/o ever overeating, becausse I understand what you are saying.... it is crucial to make permanent changes. So thanks for speaking up, though this is not all about foods, it is a top priority that needs addresssed for all whether we like it or not. I have considered joining a 12-step group for food because it could help me turn this over somehow, but I have found there are threads on bco that are for gluten-free and sugar-free and I read those at times.
714X and CAAT, right now I am researching these and will be ordering one or the other this week if they find evidence of cancer. Otehrwise I will stay w the UVB IV/blood therapy, PawPaw and laetrile plus the bitter apricot kernnels and Ojibwa tea w bloodroot extract. And yes, the good for me foods.
Later - on to the day!

Heidi, so if too much protein causes bone calcium to neutralise the acid, then by eating an alkaline diet, (less protein and more veg), it should encourage the calcium to stay in the bones. That's what I've read on alternative literature.
QW are terribly biased and behind the times. They seem to view all alternatives as bad without any mercy. Fortunately researchers are more open minded. Ph is now being studied though still in the early stages. There are many studies that show tumour Ph in mice can be altered with bicarbonate, and a new $2million study to find an efficient way to use MRI's to register Ph changes around tumours as a result of consuming baking soda. Once that study is completed, the real research on women with BC can begin.

Bicarbonate and dichloroacetate: evaluating pH altering therapies in a mouse model for metastatic breast cancer.
Recently, it has been shown that buffering of extracellular acidity through systemic administration of oral bicarbonate can inhibit the spread of metastases in a mouse model for metastatic breast cancer. While these findings are compelling, recent assessments into the use of oral bicarbonate as a cancer intervention reveal limitations.New Test Found for Effectiveness of Baking Soda as Breast Cancer Therapy
Grant to Fuel Baking Soda Cancer Therapy Research By Steve Delgado, College of Engineering, March 30, 2012
Drinking baking soda has been proven to reduce or eliminate the spread of breast cancer to the lungs, brain and bone, but too much of it can damage normal organs.A $2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health will enable University of Arizona biomedical engineering researchers to improve the way doctors measure the effectiveness of drinking baking soda to fight breast cancer.
-
Interesting about the baking soda?! How would one 'drink' it though? Is there a protocol on that? Seems too easy...yet I'd hate to damage other organs...
-
That was the other thing I forgot to mention...we keep our bodies in an alkaline state at all times. The anti-cancer diet is alkaline. We test with urine strips, but if you're eating the right combination of foods, the body will automatically be more alkaline than acid. Cancer loves acid, but has difficulty living in an alkaline environment.
-
I am really leaning toward an alternative to tamox. I want to pick 1 and am thinking of ic3. Can soeone direct me to best source and dose etc. I would appreciate any add'l info. PMs welcome.
Thx! -
Purple32, I'd do DIM first.
-
just wanted to let you all know just got back from the onc. He said the lump didnt show up on ct, but brain clear (yay) and all still stable (thank goodness) so going to watch it, and see. No change in treatment. He said it could be from my crazy sinus problem that has flared up. I wish he had said that last week, and had not been so convinced it was cancer...anyway, onwards and upwards...out of this place of fear and sadness. yet again, im given a little hope that i may be around for a while, and can refocus on living well hopefully.
Sweetbean suggested a link for smiley re diet options in australia, to wellness warrior. it is interesting reading. and some good recipes too.
If anyone is interested in starting a serious diet plan with me, let me know, and maybe we could support each other along the way, with a thread like the weight loss and exercise threads, or giving up smoking threads......:)
-
DianeEssa: im hoping your results are ok, let me know how you went.
Kaara, i read a bit about baking soda, and saw that it is an ingredient in antacids. I have a big problem with indigestion/burping...im wondering if i should use one with baking soda in it....it would help on one level at least..anyone have a natural remedy for indigestion/burping?
-
Yay!!!! Great news, thats-life!
-
that's-life: Such great news! I know that you are relieved! Now...back to the diet. Maybe this was the little scare that you needed to jump start that nutrition program. I would be happy to participate in any thread that you start and offer any support within my ability.
Your question about baking soda...I've never really ingested it, but I know that a lot of people use alka seltzer for indigestion and gas. From the way it tastes, I'm sure it contains baking soda, so in small amounts it might be ok. If you eliminate white carbs and sugar, the belching and bloating tends to go way down...it was the first thing I discovered as my body began to alkalize. It also helped my acid reflux and improved my sinus drip. It has to be the diet because these things all improved and I wasn't doing anything different but the new food plan. If I eat too many acidic foods or drink wine, it comes back.
-
I've only been diagnosed for 3 months and am stage 4. Breast with bone mets. I didn't want chemo at all but went and had a chemo sensitivity test done, it's costly but the cancer seems to be eating up every dime it can along with my body. The test showed some chemos to be highly effective for me, they also tested 50 alternative agents such as artmeisim. Several showed to be effective on my cancer. So I have been doing low dose chemo, about 10% and only those shown to be effective and taking supplements, I'm also doing diet, a combination of Budwig, raw foods and Gershwin. I know most of you have been here longer than me, I hope I can learn more from you. I also take Essack tea and apricot seeds.
-
Hi ljcan..Its great that you posted. Im sorry for your diagnosis, you must still be in a bit of a spin after only 3 months. Its a bit of a rollercoaster ride isnt it. I am impressed though with your careful assessment of options. where is that test done? Did you choose your own combo of diets? I met a woman in my cancer centre last time, who sat next to me as she saw that i was really anxious waiting for results. she gave me her number to call and catch up sometime. she is taking apricot kernel. I havent caught up with her yet, but im looking forward to asking her more. she has lung cancer that cant be cured. though i thought the treatment was banned in australia.
Some of the people here are very well informed, there is a heap of great information to go through. Im sort of still getting my head around the alternative options, but its nearly 2 yrs since my dx, so i need to get back on track and go for it. How do you go buying, preparing, etc? im sure we can all learn from each other, and please help with recipes!
sweetbean started a thread on anticancer recipes, you may like to check that out too
thanks kaara, heidi...time for me to have a break from the rollercoaster i think!
-
Ljcan,
Where did you get that test done?
That'slife, yay! So happy for you that you are still stable!
-
Ljcan: Welcome to the thread...so sorry about your dx. It seems you are making very wise choices. I would certainly consider low dose chemo over the conventional type if dx with mets. Is it the IPT that is so talked about in alternative circles? I also would be interested in knowing where you went for these tests.
Sending you positive energy.
-
Kaara (and Z if you're out there) this IPT got me thinking. What if a person took one small square of dark chocolate about 10-15 minutes prior to their scheduled dose (in my case Protocel) Just wondering aloud here, but if that one square of chocolate caused the body to release natural insulin to potentiate the treatment of choice?
-
Kat: What could it hurt? At the very least you would have an excuse for having some chocolate;)
-
Kat, a modified glucose or sugar molecule known as 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG) would probably do the trick. Check out this article.
Discovery: Sugar plus two drugs may equal cancer cell suicide
November 17, 2011 | By Mark Hollmer
Scientists in Japan and California have created a lethal recipe of just three ingredients that make the cells of some types of cancers kill themselves. They ply the tumors with a special sugar that makes the cells vulnerable and then assault them with two drugs that trigger a self-destruct sequence.
The finding, highlighted in the journal Cancer Research online, could lead to more effective, localized cancer treatments that avoid damaging healthy tissue. Researchers saw promise in vitro and then in animal studies, and are trying to initiate a formal clinical trial using the combination.
So far, the concept induced cell death in leukemia, hepatocarcinoma and lung, breast, prostate and cervical cancer cells, the research team said. But other cancers are resistant, they noted.Researchers at the University of California-San Diego and Kyushu University Medical School first give cancer cells a modified glucose or sugar molecule known as 2-deoxyglucose (2-DG), which cancer cells find appetizing. Unlike other sugar molecules, this one prevents the cancer cells from growing and leaves them vulnerable to cell death by opening access to an internal protein. Exposure to two cancer drugs--known together as ABT-263/737--forces the internal protein to begin initiating cell death.
Importantly, only cells primed by 2-DG and the two drugs died, leaving healthier cells intact. The body's blood brain barrier also protects the brain's highly glycolytic cells from ABT-263-737, preventing them from migrating there and doing damage.

Kat,
My ND has told us to eat a bit of sugar before chemo. It gets the cancer rev'ed and the chemo hits it's target better. So go for it.
-
Depending on the ingredients of Protocel and the way you metabolize them, probably won't hurt.
Zuvart, interesting about 2DG. Seems it is not like your normal sugar.
I will be doing a circulating tumor cell test next week. I will have to travel to do it as it isn't offered here. Until then I want to starve any cancer cells of glucose
http://health.universityofcalifornia.edu/2012/06/26/glucose-deprivation-kills-cancer-cells/
I know it would be more interesting to do it after they find something, but psychologically it's better for me if they don't find anything. Also I'm not sure if it's really possible to starve cancer cells of glucose in humans. But maybe my cells, if they are still around, will be too dumb or too weak to try to convert amino acids from my muscles into glucose, or some other workaround.

This is awesome information ladies...thank you!
