Anybody have experience here? I tried a GNC combo 25 billion cfu's and ended up nauseous ( stopped the trots, though )...then hurling. It was too much for my gut in one fell swoop. Anybody take something less...."billions".....and have good experience? I need a kinder gentler approach. Sensitive stomach to begin with...

I do eat yogurt but a good smack of Keflex is too much for even a 3 yogurt a day approach.

I always take BIO-K yogurt, (google it, it is amazing) It is a 2oz aprox size container with 50 billion active(about 2 bucks a container.yikes!)when I am on antibiotics.

Don't know if you are aware but you should never take yogurt or pill forms of active barterial culture together with your antibiotics. Always space them a couple hours apart to be effective or you will kill the active bacteria with the antibiotic   It is recommended to start out slow and after about 3 days I do the full little container. I do one a day after that and never had trouble with nausea. I finish the case off and then quit. This brand was recommended to me by a top- notch chinese medicine doctor I saw during cancer treatment.  He recommmended only to get the plain flavor and not the other flavors.

Just a thought, maybe your brand is doing you in, because 25 billion is not that much.

I have had serious candida issues after antibiotics and have worked out a system which really helps me.  I use Bio-K (unflavored, dairy base) the last day of the antibiotics and continue with it for 2 weeks.  The first day I use a half bottle in the am, then finish it in the pm. After that I use a full bottle in the am and pm for a couple days, then only once per day till I'm done. I also really, really like Renew Life's Ultimate Flora capsules, Critical Care, and take a capsule in the morning as well as the evening for 2 weeks, then taper down to one per day for a couple more weeks.  This combo has done me well.  When I was having my surgeries with lots of antibiotics, I also added CandiGone herbal combo to combat the baddies.  They can all work together.  It is expensive, but I've just had to go for it in order to get around the awful side effects of the antibiotics. For me, nothing else has every knocked it out as well.

I use acidophilus, 1 pill daily, and 2-4 pills if taking antibiotics, doing chemo etc.

Before my bilateral mast, my PCP had me start with a probiotic a few days ahead just to get my system in shape. Post surgery, she had me taking them at the midpoint between antibiotic doses. I was to continue with doses for a couple of weeks after the round of antibiotics was complete. She had me taking iFlora (professional use line), and I still purchase from her office. It is a broad spectrum probiotic with a variety of strains of good bacteria, has a coating that delays release of bacteria to when it reaches intestines, and is shelf stable. I still take one or two daily, as it really helps with regularity and g - a - s . . . . plus I have some food allergies which it seems to tame somewhat.
