IBC people, how quickly did breasts change?

I am still waiting to find out anything regarding diagnosis but am wondering, did your breasts quickly change from maybe just slightly pink to being hard or redder?  Did anyone have just slightly pink near their nipples for approx two months with no changes?  From what I read IBC is fast, but I am wondering how fast they mean?  Right now, I have pinkness around one nipple, slight warm feeling, breast has remained same for two months, I did not consider IBC until recently.  Did anyone have a breast which showed stability in symptoms but did turn out to be IBC?

Mine was practically overnight.  I guess it's different for everyone. For me, the rash came last with the difference in skin texture.

My rash popped up over night but it did increase in size before the IBC diagnosis.  That took 2 month to the day it popped up.  It seemed soooo slow, but now in retro speck it was a short amount of time.  Once treatment started it started to fade & texture of breast improved.

The tricky part about IBC, is that symptoms can appear and present differently in each person.

I hope you get some answers soon.  Waiting is the hardest part. NJ

I had redness that was stable for 4 months but turned out to be ibc that had spread to the skin. Check out any redness!

Mammalou, Venaba and NJ, will it make much difference if I get an ultrasound done but not for another week?  I know they have to get approval for insurance, etc, but I almost feel like with this IBC that speed is essential and I don't want to worry myself to death that if I could have gotten it done tomorrow as opposed to next Friday, that it might have made a huge difference.  As I said, currently, I have no fever, no itching, no scabbing or 'rash', just pink area near the nipple, approximately 1/4 of breast is pink which does not fade after being without bra, etc.  I know they have to go through insurance and get approvals and that those things take time, but I am making myself crazy with worry since they haven't scheduled the ultrasound yet.  (Even though it has only been two days since I saw doctor and I realize that I am asking a lot).  I guess I just need someone to say that whether I am diagnosed tomorrow or in two weeks, my overall outcome will likely be the same.    NJ, it appears you are 'done' with your treatment?  I hope you are doing well.  Mammalou and Venaba, are you two out of the woods yet?   I see your diagnoses were relatively recently, how are you both??

2 weeks or 4 weeks shouldn't change things... I've read that often enough. 2 months might... 4 months might... etc. I hope that helps on timelines.

First remember - only between 1% and 5% of all DX'd breast Cancers are Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). 80% of all breast biopsies are not cancer.

For me, it was quite rapid. I found a very enlarged node under arm that had not been 'feelable' the night before. I saw my PA a week later (she was out and I didn't want to see anyone else when talking about only a week). In that week I had gotten some peau d'orange and nipple was inverting a bit. She took one look at it and I was at radiology that afternoon for a new mammo that was followed by a sono and biopsies. Got the path. report the next morning (Fri) at 8 - as expected - IBC. Saw surgeon Mon, Rads Wed, Chemo Thurs. Lots of tests/scans, port in and started neo-adjuvant chemo 17 days post DX.

I never got red/rash, heat or pain in those 17 days. Breast did definately enlarge, peau d'orange spread and nipple totally inverted. We are each so unique. As is IBC - it is not 'Invasive' Breast Cancer (IDC/ILC).

There are so many possibilities for having pink areas on the breast - almost all have nothing to do with IBC.

Kind of wish I hadn't read some stuff, that is the 'danger' of the internet.  Now, however, after following another link I am wondering about Paget's disease of breast/nipple.  The nipple on the same breast with the pinkness around it, has been a bit scaly, with sometimes discharge either blood-tinged or yellowish.  I wasn't even thinking of the nipple much, but I guess that is another symptom to add.  I know the nipple has been that way for several months, about six, probably.  If I understand correctly, Paget's isn't necessarily cancer but an indicator that there is another cancer underneath?

Finally got scheduled for my ultrasound.  I called the insurance company and they said they didn't even have a request for anything, so I called the doctor's office back and complained and got an appt for the ultrasound coming up on Wednesday.  I know the ultrasound will not likely detect IBC, but what can it detect?  What is the purpose of doing the ultrasound if the symptoms are related to the nipple and pinkness around the breast on one side?  Is it just insurance hoops?  I am going to ask this, obviously, when I see the breast care center people, but just wondered if anyone had any insight.

Hi, ok, so i had a ultersound and mammo done, ultersound came up as a birads4. the surgeon in alberta admited me to hospital with i.v. antibiodits for about a week, breast got more swollen i was in so much pain i was on morphine, also the u.s. and mammo showed no ABCSESS. thickening and nipple inverted , aerola was huge. so after days of antibitics then took me in surgery with a swollen breast, the surgeon said he removed an abscess and sent it to pathology came bck not cancer. more antibiodicts when  i was returned home. the incision isnt healing!!!.its been since march 7, 2012. So i went to the states to get a petscan/ct. it was a year to get one in canada. The petscan injection puts like a glucose in you and i guess cancer loves it!!..so it came up red...and a 8 on the fdg suv. so i went and saw a surgeon. he shook his head....you dont do surgery on i.b.c... thats why it isnt healing, he believes, but my breast isnt swollen anymore, just where he cut me the incision is still purple and nipple flat. but theres like a lump or sumthin where the incision is and under my nipple. so this surgeon has ordered a ultersound i go tuesday. So i had ultersound and mammo before surgery.. petscan/ct after surgery, also this american surgeon says i dnt hv an infection, and also when i was first admited to hospital my g.p and surgeon both said i had no infection, then after they said i got a staph infection....wtf?.....thats why i went to  the states and im still here...my breast was itchy on skin, burning, painfull, swollen ,,,big swollen felt like a rock and heavy. The aerola was like so big it was becoming like it wasnt there anymore..that make sense?...im not sure how to describe the ridges...it doesnt feel the same as my other boob. i have small boobs. i hope i have answered your questions, my rite auxillary lymph node showed enlargement with ultersound and petscan. My boob hasnt swelled up since surgery. please message me back

sounds like doctor was concerned and did a biopsy..Did they give you expected time for healing?  When do you see doctor again?  Ask if the area under nipple is that way due to the surgeons work?. Call doctor and insist they explain  everything to you. Is there someone you can take?

had ultrasound at breast care center, doctor said that I do not have cancer.  He said that although ultrasound shows some thickening of skin, it can be explained since it is the same area that had injury through biopsy done in March.  Said there is some fluid in ducts which might be causing discomfort but to try warm compresses.  He said he thought nipple looked normal.  I am to keep measurement of pink area and if it grows, turns darker or does not improve to call and they will consider punch biopsy.  He said although ibc  can show with pink skin that he would also expect vascular changes in area which he did not see.. He also said he compared this ultrasound to last one and found no significant changes.  This is, of course, a relief but until area turns white again, I will not feel I am out of woods.

Did you have reddnesd also? I also have swollen lymph node under my arm. If the doctor says no cancer, maybe you are cancer free!
    My prayers for you!
