Been a while since i was out from these posts.   I am still in the second opinion phase.   After having a surgical biopsy (I guess called incisional or excisional) that is when the path reports came out as DCIS Stage 1, low to intermediate. Surgery was on 4/4/12.  We then went to the post op appointment with BS and she indicated that she needed to go in again and get some clear margins.. i guess it is called a lumpectomy.  My husband was with me and since he did not do the research I had done, he was a bit at a loss. I guess men just want you to explain things to them clear and simple, while we like to investigate, research, find a support group, etc.  BS suggested that i would then have to see an MO and then possible hormonal treatment.  My husband thought that the BS would be the one to follow through everything and was not happy with her explanation of things.. So we talked about it, and since this is all soo new to us, we opted to go for a second opinion. We did not tell this to BS until I clalled them to let them know that we were doing that. Anyway, we visited a MO (which I guess was the right doctor to visit instead of a BS). This MO went through my path reports and was not sure about a couple of things and mentioned that there could be a possibility that i don't need a lumpectomy and just go to radiation and possible tamoxifen. Anyway, this MO is part of another hospital system and it is actually a National Cancer Institute, so they have the BS, RO, MO all in the same building.  I sort of liked that team concept.   Anway, she said she would like to get the tissue samples and all material so they could analyze with their pathologists, plus do the Hormone Level testing which was not done from my surgery.  So I am in the "wait" now.. been about 7 days..  The MO offered to review case with the BS and RO and maybe set up a consultation the same day when I go to see her again.  Has anyone been through the second opinion path?  I am curious as to know whether one hospital system pathology report or doctors would have a different interpretation than the other.

Also, I think I am about 8 weeks from the surgery (4/4/12) and hoping that my delay in starting with rads won't be affected.   Maybe I will have to go for lumpectomy, but maybe, and hopefully not.   The waiting saga is what gets you drained as I feel ready to just get on with what needs to be done.
