Scared & Confused

Options

History:  I had a right mastectomy in December 2007.  IDC 2mm grade 2  No mets, no chemo, arimidex 5 yrs

I have been having follow-up mammograms on my left breast regularly since the mastectomy.

History: Last November I had the mammogram at my regular radiologist office and they found a triangular shaped abnormality and recommended a stereotactic biopsy.  The next week I went to my breast surgeon and she advised scheduling a stereotactic biopsy on the area.  When they went to do the test, they couldn't find anything to biopsy. They did a repeat mammogram in their office and this did not show the abnormality found by the regular radiologist.  She recommended a repeat mammogram in 6 months which I had this morning at my regular radiologist.  He found the same abnormality he did in November 2011.   I'm very confused because one place finds an abnormality and another doesn't.

Has this ever happened to anyone?   I do have an appt. scheduled next week with my breast surgeon.

Also, what about a triangular shaped abnormality?

I would think that an ultrasound and/or breast MRI would be an appropriate follow-up test prior to a biopsy.  If one or the other isn't offered, I'd insist on it.

I had an ultrasound 6 months ago that showed nothing.  I have not had a breast MRI since my original diagnosis in 2007.  I will mention that to my breast surgeon next week.  Thanks!

I agree, ask for the MRI.  It could be a difference in the mammogram equipment.  I know the breast center at our hospital uses the state of the art while some physician offices have not been able to afford that technology.  An MRI should clear up any doubt.
