Not quite a horder - decluttering

Perfect incentive: My book club meets at my house on 6/16. Major decluttering needed in the livingroom. I have done nothing there since surgery in January. I'm trying to convince my husband that 4 mos is the oldest magazine we should have, unless it's one that we keep, eg. Consumer Reports.

wow!!you guys are losing weight!!!good for you! i've stopped gaining, so thats' good. maybe i'll lose some, when i get the right amt of thyroid meds in me.. at least, the gaining has stopped.. at 18 lbs. (and i was way careful all thru chemo, just to gain from ses..) oh well, i wasn't the thinnest, to begin with..

GW tommorrow. im doing a little every day, but we have so MUCH we hadn't done when moving in. i haven't started clothes, as yet.. after my company leaves in late june, i can get to that... 3jays

If you have things that still have price tags on them and you have an account at the store you might want to try returning them. I returned 4 boxes of things a month or so ago and am still getting checks for things they have processed through. It is much more money thna I expected. The store is ColdWater Creek. I am a customer for life after this spectacular response from them. 

I also got two boxes of donations out the door. I feel good about this. I have two piles I want to go through before I put them back in the closet or the dresser. I am still procrastinating.....................

One under the bed storage box is now empty.   What on  earth was that junk and why was i keeping it???

I found when I was emptying my mom's house that large organizations were picky about what they would take. Justifyably so,  but on a few things the guy doing the pick up didn't want to work any later. I am only talking minutes to load out a good leather recliner, but he refused. The fellow taking the scrap metal was totally thrilled to have the recliner for himself. I was happy to give it to him. 

My Dad also had a bunch of naval cannon balls that the metal scrap guy was equally thrilled to carry off. 

I'll tell you all what my DH did one time. I had two plant stands, wrought iron, sentimenal value to me and over 70 years old. He put them out for trash because I wasn't currently using them in the house. He never mentioned them until I was looking for them when we moved to a house with a wonderful sun porch. I have forgiven him, over and over, but I still get angry from time to time when I have cause to think of it. I do not throw his things away. I suppose I am hurt.

Meece, replacing the caulk reminds me that a plumber contractor friend once told me to fill the tub at least half way before you put new caulk on.    When you in the tub, it "sinks" a bit and if you weight 125 pounds or so -- it can leave gaps.   I hope this makes sense.

Unfortunately I am in an apartment and the (may I use the word crappy ?) tub and caulk get sprayed each day with bleach.   No big deal since I live alone and keep the shower curtain pulled.

Meece:  Glad the spawning thing worked out for you.  Now you can relax on your trip and enjoy that DGD's birthday.  They are special!

I still have a pile of clothes sitting on my bed in my guestroom...need to take them to goodwill, but keep thinking my BF will add to the pile.  He doesn't seem to want to part with his fat pants although I know he is not planning to ever wear them again.  He says they are too "new" to give away...lol! 

2 bags of shredded papers down the trash chute.   File cabinet totally empty, but pile on table to be sorted and probably shredded.     

where DO all the papers come from,???!!!

 i did a really big sorting-cleaning, right before marybe came to visit..

 i had boxes, and boxes of photos unorganized, so , i bought containers for them, put contact paper on them, and made really pretty boxes stacked with the file cabinet.. since she's here, we still managed a trip to goodwill, and one to recycle my used books, so slowly, but consistently, we're getting it done. i have very little energy, but the "little every day" s still working..

  the problem is, when i look at the total sum of the project, in 20 years, i'll be done..

  oh well, not doing much of anything else, so onward..3jays edited to add: ave a great visit with the b day, Meece, and congrats with the koi pond!

hotandcold:  I hear you...it took me almost two weeks to unpack and get organized when we arrived in NC.  In all fairness, I had to clean out the closet of all the old clothes that no longer fit us (we both lost weight over the winter) so they wouldn't get mixed in with the ones that do, so that was time consuming.  Once it's all done though, my life is back to normal...I just have to make that trip to Goodwill with the bags of stuff;)

I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip...half the fun of going is planning and packing...the rest is having it unfold almost exactly as you planned!  I love travel, even if it's just a Sunday drive!  Always something new to see and explore.  We have two timeshare weeks that we can use over the next eighteen months and haven't decided exactly when and where we'll use them, but it's fun to dream;) 

Teka:   Right on...decluttering can always wait for a little longer;)

Right now my hobby room is cluttered with all the trappings of a new computer, plus a new wireless ergonomic keyboard and mouse.

The computer can stay, but the keyboard and mouse are such pieces of junk they are being returned tomorrow.

Anyone have any good recommendations for a good wireless ergonomic keyboard? Heck, I'd even go back to my old ergonomic one with a wire...but there's no place to plug it in. And I just can't type on that small keyboard that came with the computer!!!

ok, so today got into the spare bedroom, and moved all the furn. around.. packed away two boxes of "keep" books, 3 boxes to Goddwill.. no decluttering when marabe was here, we were having too much fun!!and she was okay with the junk that was laying around, waiting to be sorted, thank goodness.. NOW its' time to get back to work!!!

  had argument with DH about the house today, so no enjoying early Fathers Day here.. he's off to Boynton to see his parents tommorrow, so prednisone for me. i can get so much more done on steroids, but don't get in my way!!!
