Penny- do you know which arm you are in? I think this is the trial I will start soon in Houston.

I'm on the arm where I definitely take taxol and carboplatin, along with pills that are either veliparib or a placebo.  Let me know how you do.  I go for more scans on the 18th.

Thanks Penny. I actually don't like coffee at all, but latte was my cat's name! 😃

I just got accepted for this trial today and will be starting it next week. Would love to know how you ladies are doing and what you've experienced in terms of side effects. I will be in a carboplat/taxol arm as well, with veliparib or placebo.

    Hi sugarmagzz

I'm waiting to see if femara works for me and only doing the trial if we see in a month that its not working.

But please keep us informed of how it goes for you. My onc said it is a hard chemo...

Just wondering - they told you that you definitely are not in the Temozolomide arm of the study? Because that is the one that i least want to get ...

That's right, I recall you were on femara for now. I hope you see great results and don't even need the trial! I will keep you posted, I'm definitely not in the Temozolomide arm. I was so nervous to get that one because it was the one I least wanted to get as well (same for my onc). I am glad to be getting carboplat/taxol, but nervous about the combo and the side effects. I did not do well with AC combo. I am nervous about not getting the PARP inhibitor, but I guess a 50/50 shot is better than none at all. Take care!

I just started this trial three days ago and am in the taxol/carbo arm.

    Anyone else on it?

Why did you not want the Temolozomide arm? I am going to find out which arm I am in this week.

Keeping you all in my prayers.  This trial shrunk my tumor for 8 months.  The oncologist was very pleased.  Now I'm on T-DM1.

Sorry for the double post, Latte. I am still learning the ropes and unsure where to write. Never thought I would join a forum, but decided it might be a good idea as I need someone to talk to sometimes. I have been so desperate I even told my story to a young man asking to mow my lawn!

Vivian, nothing to apologize about. I just prefer the other discussion because it is in the stage four forum.

I realize this thread is a bit old now, but wondering if any of you are still in the trial and how things are going. I go for a consult next week to see if I can get on this trial at Stanford. Any suggestions of questions to ask, or things you know now that you wish you knew before you started?

    Thanks.

I have been on this study for 15 mos now, and have had some shrinkage in my sternal site, and no new growth or new tumors in my other sites (all bone). I have a friend on this study that has had 70%, then 20% reduction in her liver tumors AND her lung tumor is no longer measurable. Her bone tumors are also unchanged (no new growth). I think the meds are keeping the cancer from getting into my visceral organs! We are both on the Veliparib/TMZ arm of the study. Definitely worth looking intonand I wish you all the best.

Just popping back in to say that I got into the trial.  I'm doing carboplatin and taxol with veliparib/placebo. If anyone comes along in future with questions, feel free to pm me. I'll update this post when I'm no longer on the trial.

I'm back on this trial, under compassionate use.  I'm on the arm with veliparib and temodar.

Just checking in. I'm still on the trial. I'm on cycle 10 of every 3 weeks carbo/taxol and veliparib/placebo. I've had generally stable scans since July and my TMs are half of what they were when I started the trial (below 200 for the first time in my mets history). Chemo week is hard, but I think we've finally got the dosage right and the side effects managed. I'm feeling better faster and faster with each cycle now.

Hope anyone else still on the trial is doing well.

Anyone else still on the trial? I was on it for 1 yr and 11 mos. Just stopped because tumors are starting to grow again. I was on the TMZ and veliparib arm. (oral arm) I have not had any new tumors since i started and have kept the tumors in the bones only. Very exciting for a long time! Don't know what the next step will be. Getting a bone scan first on March 19. Hope you are all doing well.

Checking in again I was talking to my trial coordinator yesterday and she was telling me that the veliparib trial is now closed to new participants and we should be seeing published results in the next 6 months or so. Exciting stuff!

I had an allergic/anaphylactic reaction to the carboplatin portion of the chemo on cycle 12, so I'm on just taxol and veliparib/placebo now, but my cancer is still stable after 10 months and my tumor markers are still gradually falling, so I'll keep sticking with it as long as I can.
