I have some experience with the one here next to Moffitt Cancer Center on the campus of the University of South Florida.  I did a cancer writing workshop and our meetings were there - then we made our presentations to the folks who were staying there.  Many of them were there for radiation.  The facility was absolutely beautiful.  Here is a link to the Phoenix one:

I know there are restrictions like no food in your room, and you have to be dressed to come downstairs into the common areas (no PJ's!) but then again, it is free, right?  A lot of organizations bring in special dinners for the residents, etc.

yes, its free.  The one in phoenix looks really nice.  Im grateful to have a place to stay for free, and its not too far from where my treatment is.  ACS did offer us a hotel, but it was a long distance away, so we had this option.

Glad it is available for you - I found the people there to be very nice too, both the staff and other patients.

So going tomorrow - will report back.  There are only a handful, one in most states, that offer this.  For those that dont know, if you do have to get treatment more than 40min away.....you can contact the Am Cancer Society and they try to find you a hotel for free in that city.  There is also a list of hotels at considerable discounts too.

oh Shayne, I wish I felt better (and things weren't so hectic at work) I would drive up and visit you.  We will be in Flagstaff for the month of July, maybe we will "pass eachother" again?

    Good luck!

In Flag - make sure you have breakfast at Martans - best chilequilles on the planet!  Cash only.  And a place right next to it called Criollos - fun bar/restaurant with great food.  Both on San Francisco Street......

That is so cool.   You will have others there who are going through the same thing.  I just loooked it up and the one in our state is in Grand Rapids.  Almost makes it feel like fun.

    Shayne ... I am sure there won't be too much cum-bi-ya'ing ;-).

We went to Crillios the last time we were in town, it was fun.  I will make sure to try out Martans!

We Tucsonians don't travel up to Venus much ... unless we have to.  My BS uses the Scottsdale imaging center for our MRI's -- I don't know why -- so that is always a "treat" to travel up for that, usually, we just pass right though.   We are Baja Arizona down here, you know.

Your radiation is for 5 days right?  And then "all done"?

yep!  5 days.......hoping it goes by quickly and painlessly.....

The grounds of Hope House in Phx look v serene......we'll see.....Ill report back.  My husband called to ask a question, and the guy said its kinda a social scene - but we are also welcome to hide out in our rooms if we want to........
