Has anyone had breast cellulitis and how long did it take to completely go away.  I woke up Wednesday, May 23rd with a pinkish red, swollen, sore and hot to the touch left breast and also mapping towards my collar bone.  During the night both underarms were sore like I strained a muscle then when I took my PJ top off to get ready for work......HELLO WTH is this, though I had IBC.  Scared out of my mind, I went to work hoping it would get better, I called my BS's office and they said come in ASAP.  What a relief when 3 doctors looked at me and said you have an infection.  It is in the same breast I had IDC. So I had to be admitted for 48 hours and had 3 treatments of Vancomycin IV. Spent most of Memorial Day Weekend in the hospital.

It is a lot better but not 100%, I have been on Doxycycline and Monday it will be 14 days.  I have a mammo June 21st let's hope it does not rear its ugly face every again.

I did not end up in the hospital, but was on antibiotics for more than a month.  Hang in there and take those pills.  Good luck.

I've had three rounds of Breast Cellulitis and spent 5 days each time in the hospital on Vancomysin.

It can recur at anytime and some people report it as a chronic issue for years. I'm a believer that it's latent in the body and sparks up when under stress or ill. I could be totally whacked on this trigger but I follow my intuition and have seen it spark up when I was under stress.

I don't do stress anymore. Really. I avoid stressful situations and so far no recurrence.

Take the antibiotics and have them on hand at all times. My doc lets me keep and ongoing refill. I pop them when I feel my breast getting hot and body aches.

Good luck with your BCellulitis. It's just one of the side effects. It makes you think you have IBC, it's a scary thing.

if you have a fever of 101, go to the hospital asap. I had sepsis one time (not breast cellulitis infection) but an infection like it. That was scary and cellulitis untreated can turn into sepsis.

     Hugs

The damage that the cellulitis did on my breast will most likely stay that way.  The thickened breast tissue, streaks and pitting showed up on Mammogram and MRI.  BS said that is because the radiation damaged the lymphatic system in the breast also I had 3 lymph nodes removed.  I guess I will just have to deal with it.  Keep your radiated area moist with cream, don't let the skin dry or crack, use bug spray in the summer.  I think a black fly got into my bra and bit me and that is what started the whole scenario. This happen after 5 years of being dx.Undecided

When I am stressed I can feel a warm sensation inside the breast and it turns a light pink where the tissue is damaged, I mentioned this to my Onco ... she laughed.  Guess who is changing onco's.
