dechi....GOOD for YOU!! Feels great doesn't it? I bet no one even noticed (except those than know you).
-
It does feel great! So freeing and my head isn't sweating, LOL...
-
Okay, hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna test out this strip of hair headshots I created using the Picasa program. I started going without my wig 2 months PFC.
-
Divine...I love looking at them! The ones from April are my goal...would be happy with a style like that FOREVER! Oh, to just have bangs
-
Congrats dechi, I can't wait to get there!
I wanted to bring up something that I haven't seen here before (may have missed it admittedly). Since my MO suggested the best thing for hair regrowth was sun and wind, I decided to look up the effects of light on hair growth. I found an FDA approved hand-held laser comb that supposedly increases hair growth with certain types of hair loss. Note that it was NOT tested for growth after chemotherapy. The company did do a blinded clinical trial showing efficacy (I can't recall which subjects but I think it was men with androgenic alopecia). I can't say that the findings (19 additional hairs/cm2) are phenomenal, but better than the placebo arm which had 7 hairs lost per cm2. I decided to order it (note that if you fill out a short survey they give you a decent coupon code for a reduced price). It is very expensive, but I will forgo other things to have a chance of getting back to 'normal' sooner. I'm also hoping it reduces the odds of permanent hair loss by stimulating the weakened follicles. In case anyone is interested, it can be found at Hairmax.com. Note that there are also other light devices out there for home use, at least one that is hands-free. I didn't see FDA approval for that, so being a scientist, I decided to stick with the FDA approved device.

slak...how far PFC are you?
-
schatzi14 - just 10 days. Still in the worried phase of whether I'll be one of the ladies whose hair refuses to grow, thus feeling the need to try everything. Though the device is a 'comb', I have nothing to comb, but I watched the video and it doesn't appear to matter if you have hair or not to use the device. Please note that I am not supporting the use of this device. I have no idea if it will work. I just know that I appreciate everyone else's comments on this thread of things to try.

DevineM great job!

Thanks, lago!

Almost 2 months PFC and my eyelashes are gone. The last three or four were gone this morning. The brows are thin and growing back in all the wrong places. I typically don't drink in the middle of the day but what the hell? It's a good thing I feel good with a half-way decent attitude. I've also discovered that brown is no longer a good color for me. Can you say buhddist monk?
I sincerely hope everyone is having a pretty good day today. -
NCbeachgal...I am over 4 months PFC and the ends of my brows are still missing. I care more about my hair...I have lashes (sorta) and use a pencil on the end of my brows. No biggie!
I get what you mean about the colour...a year ago I could never see myself NOT colouring my hair. Now that it's "charcoal" I love it. I will never dye it again.
Slak...I was one of those women too that feared not so much that it wouldn't regrow but that I would have male pattern baldness cause there were patches on top and the front that were totally shiny and bare. Glad to say it has grown normally all over albeit not at any great rate and a very different texture. I am grateful to go "topless" now I am content!

I have a funny story from today. I had a 2 hour drive each way to see a client. Even though I am hairless I don my wig with confidence and make my best impression to get the deal LOL!!
So I'm driving back and my blackberry goes off and I'm at a light and wanted to see who was messaging me. I shove my sunglasses to the top of my head like you do and my friggin wig comes flying off. Here I sit at a the traffic lights with the light just turned green and all I have on my head is a black nylon beanie. I had to laugh but couldn't do anything about it until I got to another light!
-
ROFL MLB...that is a hoot! If it weren't for things like that...we would go nuts. I had something like that happen when I tried to put my glasses on my head to read something. I take my glasses off to read. First the glasses fell on the floor then my wig was cockeyed. I started to laugh at myself and other people sitting there looked at me like I was nuts. So glad those days are gone....am happier with my Judi Dench hairdo!
-
I know too funny. I'm driving along thinking "oh well, people will just think I'm gangsta". My GF called a bit after and she was laughing so hard when I told her.
-
Divine - thanks for posting!
Myleftboob - friggin funny. Mine has come off while trying on clothes in a fitting room. I was alone, but it still made me LOL. -
Myleft.. hahaha too funny thanks for the laugh..
Slak.. you go girl
Divine... nice
-
MLB - that is too funny! Yea I've tried to put my sunglasses up on my head too and realized that wasn't happening!
-
"Lefty Boob" - your new rapper name.
-
Mylleftboob,
Thanks for the story - it made me laugh out loud.
When was wearing my wig this winter, I went out to try on some prescription glasses. I didn't really need them , but I was so worried about having no brows and lashes, and I wanted a cammoflage. Anyway, I was trying on glasses and the salesgirl said that it was really important how they fit around my ear. Before I knew it, she had her little hands all around my head and was digging around. I swatted her hands and said 'Don't touch my hair!'. I think she thought I was crazy. (I probably was).
I'm glad the wig is gone too. My new hamster-hair is much more managealbe.

says it all tho'
-
Love it- Hamster hair lol
it perfectly describes me too

Once my hair started coming back in I started using Nioxin shampoo conditioner and leave in. I couldn't believe how fast it grew. This is only available from salons.
-
Basketnut3 - Is the 'leave in' the treatment? Did you do Rogaine at the same time? I understand they say not to, but I know some people have. Which shampoo/conditioner did you use? I picked #4 (noticably thin) but was wondering which ones others picked.
-
I've been using the Nioxin 4 step system. It consist of shampoo, conditioner, scalp conditioner to leave in and scalp treatment to leave in. My hair is slow coming back, probably due to the Herceptin, but is coming in thick!
-
My beautician recommended Nioxin #3. It's for chemically treated hair and has more conditioner in it.
-
Divine indeed! Love the pics, you look great
I would be happy if my bangs were Mia Farrow long (Rosemary's Baby)...patience
My eyebrows are starting to thin, hoping I don't lose them again
Love the hamster hair, I've always said mine looks like a chia pet
-
My hair has definitely come back (all 1 1/2 inches of it) GRAY. Yesterday I dyed it brown with over the counter Feria color. I love it. Not much makes me feel better these days...but that did

I bleached my hair about a month ago---it is really blonde. Love it. HUGS to you Sandyland...I am really feeling down right now and cannot seem to get out of this funk. I have been researching recon options and dealing with LE now and hate my new reality. This sux...short hair, compression garment for day and night, and no boobies just feeling all around UGLY!!!
SIGH!!!! this too shall pass and soon I will be all new!

Mag~ I am feeling so low too. The extra weight is KILLING me! I hate the super short hair, but I could probably deal with it. The mastectomy scars blow, but I can even deal with that...it is the stinking 20 chemo pounds I hav gained that are really challenging me. I have to say how grateful I am for my awesome DH, who has been a trooper through all of this.
Once this unbelievable fatigue lets up, I think the weight loss will get easier. We'll see. Until then, I'm looking on the bright side as much as possible, but it's rough. Wine helps :0

I'm right there with you -- fatigue, an extra 20 pounds (all around my middle) and the "hamster hair." (LOVE that description, it's so apt.) For the time being, I wear elastic-waisted pants and look in the mirror as infrequently as possible. I don't recognize that person who stares back at me. I get depressed a lot, but I'm also grateful for every day.
