Ontario Get Together
Creating this thread just to make it easier to see things about trying to arrange the get together ----
Let's try and fix the date and then we can figure out where ----
August 18th OR August 19th
August 11th OR August 12th
DATE -- AUGUST 19TH -- 1 P.M. -- MILESTONES - WHITBY (401 & THICKSON ROAD EXIT)

Ok... Added to faves.

Added.
Aug 18 is my anniversary, so 19th would be better, but I will try to work it out either way. -
Ok -- added the Sunday as well as the weekend before to give everyone some choices
-
Added to my favourites as well. Thanks!
-
Good idea Joanne for starting this thread. I'm easy either day so can go with the majority.
-
August 18/19 will work for me.
-
Thanks Joanne...added to faves also...any day in August is fine!
-
Next question --- WHERE? If we meet east of Toronto we need someone from there to coordinate it? I don't know anything of what is out there.
HELP!!!

If we go with East I can help with that...

Weekend of August 18/19 worked for many people. Either day is fine with me.
I'm in Toronto and can go east or west. For the past couple of years, we went west so am thinking going east would make it easier for a number of people like Lassie, Pip, Mumito and several others. Just a thought.
Joanne, thanks for starting this thread -
I have a tentative thing on Aug 17 weekend - so choose the date and I may be able to come anyway. East is good. I go to TO a lot to visit my Dad so west is also possible. (Don't you just love firm clear answers?!)
-
Hamilton - either day of either weekend
-
Im game for any of those dates. I however will need a ride. Im hoping Marple steps up again. Riding with her was a riot. And its nice to know her.

I'm good for any of the dates in August - I'm in Burlington.
-
Dreamwriter, I was hoping you would pop in. Don't worry, we'll make sure you get there.
East is best for me but I am flexible.
-
Hi ladies, depending on the date in August, count me in if I'm in town. I'm going away later in the month. I'll add to my favourites. Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ladies, too!

Would anyone be interested in meeting in Mississauga at the Erin Mills Town Center at the Pickle Barrel?
It seems to me that it might be central for east and west. Just a suggestion! There is lots of parking and easy to find...right across the street from Credit Valley Hospital...scene of the crime for many of us. LOL
-
Those dates are fine for me, prefer a Sunday. I'm in Toronto, so location not an issue. (Schatz, last 2 years the gathering has been way west, in Niagara, thanks to Linda's hospitality... I think the idea this year is to be east of Toronto for people who are in Peterborough, Kingston area. etc. Mississauga would still require a trek for them through this congested city.)
-
Luah...so far the ones that have responded are west of Toronto with one exception.
There has been..Burlington, Hamilton, Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton but possibly Belleville to the east. Going east is still a trek for them as well. We can't win.
We need to hear from more gals...PLEASE!! Let's hear where you are!
-
In the other thread there were Ottawa, Bellville, Peterborough. There are also those coming from the northern areas above the gta I believe.
It's all good... I am sure it will all be sorted. I use to live in Oakville, and Mississauga. I totally get how far it seems to come east.
As for Pickle Barrel in the Erin Mills town center. I would rather the Sherway Gardens one if we are really going to push west end. main reason is it is RIGHT at the junction for the 427, QEW, and Gardiner.
Mall places are fine for me... I only have to worry about where the "kernels" is in relation to the entrance. If I am having an off day I needd to be able to get in and out without being too close. The kernels in Sherway is in a store if I recall over a center kiosk type setting. It is not designed to pipe the entire mall with the smell of popcorn so I can actually go into that mall for short periods.
I honestly don't think there is an area in the GTA I don't know. *blush*
I totally get the need to accomodate the driving distances of the various members. I am going to politely say:
Hi my name is Shelley and I can and have had anaphylactic reactions to corn. Specifically popcorn because when it is made the drop of water inside heats, causes the kernel to burst creating the popped corn effect but it also releases the steam into the air and makes tiny little particles airborn. Best case is I might get itchy... From there I've had to leave malls because my skin started to feel like it was burning, my lips, and face get a touch puffy, I may need my inhaleur, and I typically have an epipen on hand. Which reminds me... time to get a new one.
I am totally in for the get together... BUT a mall location may cause me to have to stay home if my system isn't functioning well enough to not have a big reaction. If there isoutside access I can use. I am good. If there is access within the mall but it is very close to the main doors I am also typically good.
Sorry to be a pain in the butt. I know it kinda wrecks things. It is why I originally suggested places not located within malls. Which there are plenty of in Mississagua. Heck... If we are going west then what about Snug Harbour in Port Credit. Awesome place... Get to watch the pretty boats... Etc.
If we were to go downtown Toronto there is Kitkat on King St. by John St.
If we were to go to the northern area there is that massive collection of places at 400 & highway 7.

Shelley...that is good to know...because some of us are new to this forum, I was not aware of the "mall" problem. I suggested the PB because someone mentioned there had been a GTG at the PB at Yorkdale...was just trying to avoid heavy traffic areas...and crappy parking!
It's hard to get a consensus...Joanne was kind enough to try to organize a meeting this year by starting this thread. Seems we are going in circles...perhaps there needs to be more than one GTG to accommodate everyone. All suggestions are welcomed.
Oshawa has been suggested. That might be a solution..sounds good to me! How does everyone feel about that? I have no idea where, because I am not familiar with the area but am sure there is somewhere we could meet.
-
If it is out this way the Whitby area is likely better. Thickson & 401 has a plethora of places in one spot.
-
Are we setting the date for Sunday August 19?
-
If I can avoid the trek across the top of the GTA I will be happy. Anything this side of Yonge?
Peterborough
-
pip...the date hasn't been decided...many have not given a preference...but most find the 19th good for them.
-
I think we should decide on the date first. A lot of us will have to give several weeks notice at work as August is the month of vacationing coworkers.
