I need to buy a sleeve and a gountlett.  Does anyone know where I can get one.  I was given the name of a place in Bensallem, PA but was wondering if there is some place closer?

Your Certified Lymphedema Therapist is the one to talk with. It's not as simple as walking in and saying "I want a sleeve and glove/gauntlet".

Are you dealing with LE now or wanting garments to try to reduce developing it? Are you sure a gauntlet is better for you than a glove (full finger or part finger)? Do you need a night sleeve? If you've experienced LE have you been taught MLD massage and been wrapped?

There are different levels of compression that different ones of us need (Class 1 works for me - heavier makes it worse). We are all built different, so many don't 'fit' in the 'standard/stock/off the shelf sizes (I don't). I don't fit into anything 'standard' so mine are custom but some do.

Kval, I assume you were given the name of C&CM in Bensalem? I live in Chester Co, and this is where my garments are ordered. Therapist determines what I need, takes measurements, requests prescription from my doctor. C&CM will check to see if insurance covers and gets precertification/preauthorization and then order is placed. Order is shipped to my home.

I agree with Kicks when it comes to purchasing garments that fit well. Definitely need to be measured, even if you are purchasing over the counter. A poorly fitted garment can do more harm than good, even if it you don't have LE and are wearing for exercise or flying. Have you already been measured and need an over the counter sleeve, gauntlet or glove? What about prescription or insurance? I am aware of a pharmacy in Chester Co that carries a large selection of OTC compression garments, but I have never purchased from them and know nothing about how they handle insurance. Only if I had been professionally measured would I purchase from this or another store. Tell us more about your needs so we can help.

Kicks and Tina,  Thanks for your reply.  I have seen a Therapist and I have been measured.  I am just starting my treatment of Lymphedema.  I was given the name of C&CM by my therapist but she said if I found one closer to my home that would be fine so that is why I asked the group.  I am going this morning to C&CM.  I will keep you two in mind if I have any more questions.  Thanks so much.  kval

    Kval,

I was measured at the private P.T. practice of Christine Hayes in Paoli. They have certified lymphedema thaerapists on staff.  Phone # is 610-695-9913, www.chayespt.com. Referred to them by my radiation oncologist.  They did the ordering and I returned to make sure it was properly fitted and they educated me on how to wear it properly.  Very professional and knowledgeable.

    Good luck,

    Zinnia

Zinnia, I think a friend of mine went there for PT after bilateral mast and implant recon and was pleased. Always good to hear about different therapists in the area.

Yes, returning to therapist with garments to check for fit is important, especially if this is first time being fitted for LE treatment.
