Jitters I have heard both also and like Joanna I am hoping for loss but my mo just thought it couldn't hurt to start loosing. I did not have chemo to deal with.
Silvia I wish I had a suggestion for you let us know if you find sometimg that works -
Neeners - I am using Miaderm during the day and Hydrolatum at nite - if my RO had her way, I'd be lubed up with the Hydrolatum 24/7....but it's very thick, so I only do nites and weekends when I'm home . My RO is adament about putting that stuff on 4-5 times a day so there won't be problems :-)

BLISTERS.....AAAARGH. I had hoped that my skin would hold out better then this. Noticed them Sunday morning, just on the breast near my breastbone. They're pretty small and I think there's one on the underside of my boob, but thankfully not in the crease. Had #14 today - 19 to go......
Mckenna, I was talking to my techs today about weight loss. They said they would not have to reposition someone unless they had lost about 10% of their body weight, so i think your 4lb loss wasn't the reason for your extra repositioning xrays. Good for you losing weight tho, I think it's a good idea before we start the Tamoxifen...who knows what effect that will have?
-
Jittersmom I have 6 left too. Tomorrow is my last full breast rad, then 5 boosts. We will have to have a virtual drink to celebrate next Tuesday night!
Silvia I wish I could share my prescription Silvadene cream with you, I have a huge tub of it. I have not peeled, it is working.
I ordered my M&Ms for my rad team. Now I am hoping they don't melt in transit as it will be 104 on Friday. I will be happy even if they do melt because I will be done with rads.
-
Thanks dizzy I didn't think to ask. Sorry about the blisters. What are they having you put on them?
Jan what did you end up prying on the m&ms? -
Hi Jan, Silvadene is basically an antibiotic cream used on severe burns right? Well I don't have it. But I have som triple antibiotic lotion I was using on the worst area and I also have some burn cream... just not sure if to use it or not. It doesn't hurt, it is just super pink. When anybody looks at it, they think I am in painful agony but thankfully it's not the case.. so far. I even went to yoga today and felt good doing most of the exercise. If it will get worse till tomorrow I am going to buy it.. I think I need a prescription for it, correct? Thanks!
-
Dizzy - sorry about the blisters! Ouch! Did you ask your RO about the number of boosts? How many are you getting?
-
The blisters don't hurt - they're very small and just look like red blotches. I'm just using my regular cream combos: glaxal, biafine + aquaphor. They said use hydrocortisone if they start to itch.
I see my RO tomorrow so I'll ask about the boosts. Supposed to have 7 - we'll see. -
Glad they don't hurt - I imagined watery blisters like you get when you burn your skin stupidly touching something obviously very hot - like it happens to me all the time. ;-)
I like it how my technicians and the doctor are telling me that my skin is doing MUCH better than they expected, that I do much better than other patients using that bolus do - what did they expect I wonder? Was I supposed to peel right down to raw flesh? Now I get their mystery awkward smiles when I was asking what to expect at the begging of rads.
-
dizzy215 - I was just wondering this weekend how your skin is holding up since we're on the same day. Are they raised or flat? No blistering here (yet), just a lot of interesting shades of pink to red to fuchsia to purple, all on the underside.
More interesting-to-noone data today. I asked the tech what my dose is - 6040 total (don't know the units; he said, don't remember). 5040 of them are spread out over 28 doses @ 180/day, then 1000 over the 5 boosts. Huh. Okay.
-
The units are gy (or gray) it is a unit of energy, 1 gy = 1 Joule of energy. Interestingly enough 1 Joule of energy is equal to 0.239 calories
-- I am pretty sure they would never call radiation energy a calorie though.
Sylvia - your picture is seriously beautful, that shade of pink/purple is definitely your color!
Dizzy - sorry about your blisters.
Spokanellie - you and mckenna with your colorful breasts!
-
Jan --- what did you order on the M & M's and what color ????
If you get damp (moist) under your breast or arm then use corn starch in a stocking -- like a powder puff -- it helps !! and is cooling and refreshing.
-
Dizzy - blisters? Yikes. Hope your RO can give you something to get those taken care of right quick.
Joanne - I'm totally going for the baker boob (boob + corn starch) today!
-
ok I will vote for loss too! lol..also I am on herceptin and for awile its seems like no matter what i did the weight just kept coming on! I am on the until december , and I start tamoxifin soon..today is #6 of my last 6 rads
-
Zap #10 yesterday...29% of the way finished! My skin's barely pink and the R.O. seems pleased with the state of affairs.
On the yowza side of things, however, I have a persistent seroma from the boobieloptomy. I'd already had it drained twice, but it was filled up again yesterday and was sloshing around in my chest like a water balloon. To keep the anatomy consistent my R.O. wanted it drained again, so off I went to the surgeon's. 105 ml of pinkish fluid out of my chest and down the sink drain. It really doesn't hurt--the skin where she stabs me is still numb from the surgery--and it's nice to have a flat, non-squishy chest again.
As much as I despise having JP drains sutured in and swinging around, when I have my reconstruction next year I'm going to hang onto the damn things as long as I can. The juice is better in the grenade than in my chest.
-
abelizabeth, sorry about the water balloon
glad it doesn't hurt to have it drained. yeay for 29% done!!!
jitters you are totally on the down hill now!!
baker boob is way more comfy for me than lotions and creams. i am hoping to be total baker boob tomorrow while i am outside all day at my kids' school picnic. thank goodness for cooler temps and a friend running the beer booth under a canopy, which is where i will be parking my chair all day
saw ro today, they are pleased with my energy level and my skin. they said the redness is very expected at this stage of the game and nothing can prevent that. the creams can help combat any skin blisters or peeling but the redness cannot be stopped. the area under my boob looks good to them and they said keep doing what i am doing. they repostioined me for every again today but i only lost 1/2 pd so my theory was totally wrong. i asked if i would be getting full boob rads with the boosts or just the boosts starting next tuesday. he looked at my plan again and said i am not getting boosts. so still ending on the same day but i thought after monday the rest of my boob would be getting a break. no such luck. so 25 reg. treatments no boosts for me.
neeners, how did the first treatment go?
have a nice day!
-
mckenna -- baker boobs? did I miss something?
-
neeners called the cornstarch on the boob bakers boob
-
Spokanellie, they are raised but look just like tiny red spots, but with a magnifying glass(!) I could tell they were blisters. Tiny bit itchy, so I'm going to get some hydrocortisone today. The rest of my skin is just a tiny bit pink.
-
sbeliz...I have a constant seroma as well but mine is at the incision scar from the SNB...surgeon drained it and got 2 syringes full of pale yellow liquid. Said no need to worry but by next morning it was all back again. Mine didn't hurt to drain it either but a little tender since. I don't think I will drain it again unless it gets a lot bigger.
-
mckenna - I thought it was that but wasn't sure ... lol
-
Ok, saw the RO: blisters are normal & she doesn't think they will get any bigger. Got my cortizone cream now. Got distracted talking to the Nurse Navigator whom I last met on the morning of my surgery, so almost forgot to ask my RO about the boosts and was almost out of the door when i remembered. Needless to say, my well reasoned argument for 5 boosts instead of 7 came out very weak and I got a resounding NO! Oh well, I tried! Over 50% done with my WB zaps...11 more to go, then onto the boosts.
-
Silvia what time will you be having your End of Radiation celebration drink? Let us know and I for one will raise a glass in celebration with you. Cheers!!!
-
Hi ladies. Yep, I am following the baker's boob method. I went to put the corn starch on and noticed a couple of red marks that I don't think were there before, but I think that there's a possibility it could be from me walking today for almost 4 miles! I'll see what they say tomorrow. The funny thing is my dog has no idea what's going on with my boob. I think he thinks I'm baking him some treats or something. Poor fella!
-
How did day one go?
How many stops does your man hole cover make? Mine stops twice but I was talking to a friend last night who said hers made 5 or 6 stops and the actual rad time was close to 10 minutes. That seems like a lot. -
that does seem like a lot -- mine did 2 zaps on the right -- up and across and then moved around and came from the left over the breast for 2 zaps ...
-
It was fine - no problems. Definitely more time to set up than actually do. It took longer for the thing to move from one side of my boob to the other, than to do the zapping.
-
I get 1 long zap and 1 short zap coming in diagnally from the left side. Then it goes to the right side almost to the point I can't see it and zaps one really long zap and 2 shorter ones. Total time is maybe 60 seconds. I think cause I'm a B cup (on a good day) I'm not getting my money's worth...lol
-
schatzi and sabeliz- I will finish my 33 tx's tomorrow. Yaaaay!
I went through this with a huge seroma in Breast that had lumpectomy. It was the size of a softball and now after almost completing tx it has shrunk to a peach size. My BS tried to drain it but said it was thick and jello like and would not drain. I have learned to live with it now. Make sure you are wearing supportive bras 24 hours a day. I know with tx it is uncomfortable. That helped mine a lot. I am going to let nature take its course. I could go back in and have BS open incision and take it out! NO WAY!!!! I am done healing!!! I need to focus on healing mentally now!!
I know you all are in the middle of rads right now and hoping you are healing well. I will attend my last appt tomorrow and my skin held up pretty well. It got pretty red and sore but skin only broke in baby blisters on breast and under breast. They cleared up after using cortisone on them. My skin has already healed well since I started boosts last week. I lived in tank tops with bras in them. I turned them inside out so bra seam did not touch incisions. That extra layer of padding helped. I also bought baby face wash cloths (super soft) for $1 at walmart and put them under breast and in armpit sometimes. They helped a lot!!!
I worked all but 1 day 40 hours per week through treatment and have a super active and physical job. I did sleep 10-12 hours per night and alot on off days. Listen to your bodies. MY RO said sleep when your body wants to sleep!
Stay strong my friends, It gets easier!!
Kristi
