My oncologist believes my complex (large) canker sores are a herpie virus. I'm not sure. She prescribed ayclovir, which didn't seem to help. I'm getting two or three of these inside my mouth, even on my tongue. I'm so frustrated. I' used to get cold sores when I was young, but seem to out grow them until recently. I'm fighting one right now. Apparently, my immune system is out of wack.

I'm taking Super Lyzine, and use a over the counter Kanka medicine, plus, herpcin for the cold sore. It takes weeks to get over them, only to have them replaced with more. There seems to be a lot of options on the net, but I'm not sure what really work and what doesn't. I thought that maybe some of you are battling sores and have a few alternative ideas.

I just started using coconut and aloe vera.

    Thanks.

Eve, your doctor should get a swab and have it tested. She shouldn't be guessing.

I used to get a herpes eruption on my finger (of all places).  Took lysine for it.  Seemed to make the episodes not as long or bad.  Can't remember how much I took of it.....  Haven't had an occurance in more than a dozen years......

Liquorice balm is very effective at combatting cold sores. You apply a little at the tingle stage, just like a lip balm. Smells good, too!

There is a chinese herbal remedy called watermelon frost that helped my canker sores tremendously.  It's a powder in a small bottle that you apply by squeezing the bottle aiming the tip directly at the sore.  Here is a link to it.  Good luck!

I suffer badly with cold sores, have no cancer, but the liquorice balm is the only thing that has helped me over the years.

I have a lip full of them at the moment, the sun always brings them out.  My bottom lip looks like it has been attacked by a blow torch.

L-lysine works wonders; take it as a supplement at the first sign. It will help heal them faster as well.

Evebarry,  I practically lived with canker sores - I had them more than I didn't have them. I went to every doctor I could find for advice and was always told it was a virus. In desperation, I started searching the web for every thing I could read on canker sores and found people talking about being allergic to tooth paste. Apparently some people are allergic to sodium laryal sulfate (not positive on that spelling of laryal/lauryl) but anyway, I started using tooth paste without that ingredient in it and lo and behold, now I rarely have canker sores. I found one of the CVS brands doesn't have it.  I do sometimes use just any old tooth paste too but mainly stick with the ones without this particular ingredient. I've been doing this now for about 10 years.

Luckily for me, I don't usually get cold sores so can't help with that part of your question.
