Orange pee?????

Has anybody experienced orange urine?  I am really wondering what is going on and what I can find on the internet hasn't really helped.  I'm trying to see my doctor tomorrow, but was just wondering if this was something to do with liver mets.  I haven't been diagnosed with any mets yet, but I am being re-tested tomorrow for my cancer marker that was out of normal range and the orange pee has thrown me for a loop.  I had one episode last weekend, and then nothing until yesterday morning.  Then all was clear until this morning, and has been fine until just a bit ago.  Don't understand any of it. So, if anyone has any idea of what's going on, please let me know.

    I don't have an answer for you but I'm sorry you are going through this worry. I hope everything will turn out to be just fine and the orange pee is just related to something you ate/drank. Best wishes.

    I'm certainly no Dr. but it could be a bacteria infection in u'r bladder which is simple enough to treat--u/r Dr. will no doubt want a sample of u'r urine for testing. Good Luck

    BBLady I know some meds can cause your urine to be orange. Vitamins can also change the color. Have you started any new meds in the past week or so? I don't know what meds cause this but that can be a cause. Just a thought! Not that other causes shouldn't be checked out also.

    I have liver mets and never had orange pee.   I even had half my liver removed and my pee didn't change.

    Pee would probably be more indicative of bladder or kidney problems.  I have never heard it related to cancer.  It may be something you ate, something you drank, some medication you took, or maybe you just held it too long?

    I think for your liver to be causing orange pee, you'd also be jaundiced.  And, you'd probably have late stage disease so you'd already know about it, it isn't diagnostic of anything.  If it is, you'd be the first I'd ever heard!

    Is everything else normal?  Do you maybe have a bladder infection?

    Thanks, everyone - I've been wracking my brain trying to think if there's been anything different that I've eaten, drunk, or taken and can't come up with anything.  So, hopefully my family practice doc will see me tomorrow and if he doesn't know what it could be I'll see my onc later this week.  I'll post whatever they come up with!

    CoolBreeze - thanks for info on the liver mets.  I guess I'm just worried and thinking worst case scenarios!  I've had many bladder infections before, but never orange pee!  Hopefully, it will be something like that, though.

    Did you eat or drink something that contained food coloring (maybe you were even unaware of it)? Some foods, like beets, can also change the color of urine. Or did you take any new vitamins or other meds? - Did this just happen once or repeatedly. -



    Hope you can get to the bottom of it, and that its nothing serious!

    I would have the doc check your billirubin level. When mine was high, my urine was orange. Hope it turns out to be nothing.

    ETA: my stool was also much paler too.

    I had serum hepatitis (HepB) with severe liver damage, and my pee was the color of root beer, and my stools were the color of chalk. The jaundice came way later.

    There are so many possible causes for "off-color" urine - only your doctor can help get to the cause.

    I do know that when I am dehydrated, my pee takes on kind of a darkish yellow-orange tint.

    Hoping it is something simple and easily fixed!

    I was once given an antibiotic, Rifampin, that turned my pee neon orange! And they didn't warn me about that little side effect, so I was a bit ticked off at them.

    Urine can ddefinately change color for alot of things and tell us thigns about our bodies.  I had strange color (straw) when I was pregnant and it had and it had a bad odor.  I brought a sample with me. They tested it and found my amniotic membranes had ruptured and it was amniotic fluid. 

    So, if possible, I'd encourage you to bring a sample with you to the doctors when you go.  that way they can test it case when you go there the color has gone away you'll have your sample frome home.

    Good luck hope its nothing but some stange food dye you ate!

    Well, I went to my family practice doctor, showed him a sample of my urine and he said he really didn't know what was causing it - especially since it comes and goes.  So, he's doing a urinalysis and urine culture to see if it will show anything.  Also, talked to my onc's nurse, who said she had never heard of such a thing, but she would talk to the onc.  Hopefully, the UA results will be back quickly, said the culture will take until Wed or Thurs.  Should get the results back from my tumor marker re-test on Wed or Thurs, too.  Thanks for your support, it helps alot!!!

    My first guess would be beets too.  Do you eat beets periodically?  My urine always has kind of a rust tint to it after I eat beets.  Also my daily vitamin turn my urine bright yellow.

    Preliminary report is that I have a slight amount of bilirubin in my urine, just like gracie1!

    Gracie1-what caused yours and what did they do about it?

     My doc is going to have me have a liver function test and go from there.  Still waiting on tumor marker results.....

    BBLady,  Thanks for keeping us up to date.  I'm not sure what it means either.  But at least the Dr's are looking in to all possibilities!  Ahhh more waiting....the story of our lives with BC!  Or at least it seems that way to me!

    Unfortunately, mine was caused by liver mets. Once they started shrinking, my urine and stool went back to normal. I do remember the doctor telling me though, that there were many reasons our livers can act up and it doesn't necessarily mean cancer. I was pretty bloated at that time too and didn't feel well at all....had zero appetite. If you don't have any other symptoms, I'm hoping there's nothing to worry about and your liver panel comes back clean.

    With my tumor marker elevated and the orange pee, liver mets was one of the ffirst things I thought of...I'm hoping and praying that it's something else, but just have to wait and see.

    Gracie1- Questions:  when were you dx with the liver mets?  How far out from BC? and what treatment did they give you?

    I was originally diagnosed in 1996 and was cancer-free until 2006, when I was diagnosed with bone mets. The liver mets showed up in 2009. I had taxol, taxotere and navelbine.

    ETA: Forgot about it but I also had herceptin for a while, along with the taxotere.

    Please don't worry until there is something to worry about. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it's something benign.

    Gracie1- Wow you've been through alot.  I do hope that you are doing o.k.

    I got my tumor marker report back, and my markers are back down to where they were in November!  Praise the Lord!!!  And, my liver function test is normal, too.  So, the doc still doesn't have any idea as to why I have bilirubin spilling in my urine.  He is going to have me do another urinalysis next week.  I'm really glad my markers came down, and I'm thrilled that my liver function is normal, but am still concerned about the bilirubin and why it's showing up. The docs (fp & onc) don't seem too concerned since the other tests came back normal, so maybe I shouldn't be either.  I'll post my results next week - if anyone has any other ideas, let me know.

    I really appreciate all the support you guys have given me.  This is just such a wonderful place to come when things start falling apart!

    O.k., just got my second urinalysis results back and they were normal - no bilirubin!  Apparently, tumor markers and bilirubin can be effected by low grade infections, or dehydration - I had no idea.  I guess I just picked a really bad week to have my tumor markers tested!  The orange pee was bad enough, but the tumor markers being up too, really threw me.  I am so thankful that everything seems to be great.
