Helloooooooo sagina...
Hope everyone is doing well
Does anyone have shoulder issues post rads?? I had some shoulder issues before rads. but I could do my stretches .. I have regressed quite a bit (it started with a bit of shoulder pain just after rads) and since my exchange surgery (May 11) I only have about 3/4 range of movement compared to before.. It feels like a nerve get pinched when I stretch and I get pain from my shoulder running down my arm halfway to my elbow.. Anyone else have these issues??

here, here, I agree, getting old bites big time. I am 1 month post ovary removal and now in menopause. Had I known, maybe I would have left them in, but giving me better odds of never having this carp come back is worth the hot flashes and nite sweats. I'm told that forced menopause is different than natural. Anyone know of the difference?
-
kingjr. - Forced menopause is more intense where natural menopause is spread out over the years.. not that it is any less intense with hot flashes and night sweats, but it is more of a shock to your body when they take the ovaries... Now the AIs that are given to us post-menopausal women, are SUPPOSED to be "not that bad" on SEs but the ONC put me on a 6 month break before we will try it again... I had a horrible time.
Question for all: can you have lymphedema to the breast without it being warm, but just swollen and painful?
-
Gmafoley, did you have a lumpectomy? Might be fluid accumulation. See you surgeon or MO if it doesn't go away.
-
ptdreamers - I am 10 months post rads. Yes I had a lumpectomy then a 2nd surgery to clear margins and one node removed with micromatastis. Then I had 28 rads to the breast and lymph nodes - the last time I saw the docs, both of them said it wasn't a seroma and the mammo looked good... The RO did say that it did look a little swollen but did nothing about it just said we would do another mammo in a year.
When I take my bra off you can see the indentations and pain is worse when I wear a bra... I guess when I might call and see if they could refer me to a lymphadema therapist and have someone tell me for sure... I just would hate for this to be something that I should have taken care of months ago instead of being on gabapentin and anti inflammatory/pain creams. I just don't really need another expense that I can't pay for :-P
-
GmaFoley, the minute I started complaining to my rads nurse about swelling (my pre surgery tops are too tight through the bust and sleeves etc.,) she had the ro refer me to an LE therapist. "We won't know if it's LE or swelling from rads or post op swelling, but she'll be able to help you be more comfortable in any case" and she has. I am one week post rads, have seen the therapist 5 times over the last several weeks, and have a sleeve on order because LE therapist thinks at least some of the swelling will be helped with compression. She still not willing to come down on any particular diagnosis yet, but the massage certainly eases the discomfort and the swelling has come down a little too. Still need a 4 inch bigger bra band than I did before my LX
but...
-
Gmafoley, I would definitely get it checked out. If your insurance will cover an LE specialist then I would go to one. Good luck.
-
Gma foley-i sent you a pm.
hi everyone...im back.
Hope everyone is doin well and had a good weekend.
huggggggs everyone K
-
Thanks Granny for the pm and PTdreamers - I don't have insurance so this whole situation sucks... Sorry I don't use that word too often but today, with you all, I figured you would understand.
-
I called my RO's office to get a referral - He won't give it to me unless I come in and see him first.. GRRR - And I can't get in to see him until the end of June... Any other suggestions.. BTW I did make an appt. to see him unless I figure something else out.
Edit: My surgeon isn't very helpful either but I guess I could talk to him?
-
GmaFoley called the therapist and see if they can do an eval without a doctors order. It is legal in some states for them to do an eval. If so you can go get the eval and then they can call your doctor. If he is not going to be helpful have them call your PCP. They just need a doctor to sign off on the actual orders. use whoever is the most helpful to you. My MO is usally pretty helpful with stuff like that.
-
Sherry, Thank you - Unfortunately, I need to go to one of my docs because I have no idea to call - It is at least an 1.5 hours to go to the ones I know of.. I was hoping they would know someone closer... I decided to call my surgeon and he is going to see my on weds. At least I know my payment plan with him will be ok.
-
Glad you got in this week GmaFoley.
-
I feel like I'm a trouble maker
.
It is probably just something different from the norm and I just have to keep on dealing with the pain management doc... He is awesome but had to admit to me that if something goes weird with the breast I need to go see the RO, MO or the surgeon... He will help me with creams to use for inflammation and pain but can't do much else.
This will probably be my last post on BreastCancer.org... I just don't know if this helps my mood or not.
-
GmaFoley - Sure am going to miss you. Wish you weren't going away. You know you can come back anytime.
-
Damn Gma foley left...shit..i thought maybe her hospital has some classes for free...something...anything...OMG this is sooo wrong...I know there are places in NJ that help the people with $$$$ if you have no coverage...
this soooo pisses me off.
-
Grannydukes - I am still here reading but I don't want to be a bother making everyone upset with a problem that is not being solved in our little town...Love you all.
-
Gma--please dont go.just maybe someone can be of some kinda help for you
When i was first dx.sistas came out of the woodwork tryin to get me transportation.
And yes i got it.
We are here for you.Sistas are never a bother.
Sure i get upset.everyone knows that but hey you never know.
just stay with us...please...
-
GmaFoley - You are never a bother! (((hugs)))
-
GMA - You most certainly are not a bother. We are all here for you. We help each other. Please don't go!
-
Ok, I will stay and listen... Surgeon appt to get referral to LE therapist is on weds afternoon. Today is my eye doctor appt to see how my scratched corneas are. If they aren't totally better, he is going to send me to a cornea specialist $$$$$.... Will this ever end...
-
GMA - So glad you decided to stay. Let us know how the surgeon appt goes and also the eye appt.
-
I really have no hope that the surgeon is going to do anything... Its just a mild swelling - unless I go for a walk or the weather gets hot ... When it got hot here last week, it swelled something fierce. DH sees the difference and told me its not my imagination, but he knows what I look like... Surgeon hasn't seen me for a good 6 months or so (when I told him about the pain I was having)... thats when he said,"It just takes time.. It will get better" At that point he did suggest gabapentin... Rambling again.. just need support that I am spending my money wisely going back to him for that referral.
Jo are you sure you want me to stay LOL....I guess I am stressing over this visit.
-
GMA - Of course I want you to stay. You know as well as I do that we have to be our own advocates when it comes to our health issues. Go back to the surgeon and don't let him blow you off. That has happened to me at times and I will not longer put up with it. We should not have to live in any kind of pain. Okay! Rant over. Just don't leave us - please!!!
-
HELP!!!! I need to calm myself... My eyes have a very bad dry eye issue.. They aren't getting better and the doc now wants me on Restasis for up to a year... No real prescription insurance and it is $365 a month. Why does everyone seem to think we are made of money.....
Called doc back and told him after the samples are done I won't be able to afford it..... waiting for a call back... Can't eat dinner now - I'm too upset.
-
I too want you to stay.rant on!!!!we are here to listen. If any sista does not want to hear it they can 1-go off the thread and stay away for a while.Listen up ladies...im in a firy mood today too. This is MY thread(power play if i ever saw one)complain all you want.YEAH ALL OF YOU!!!!!
