About 8 months ago my oncoligist found a 2.0 cm swollen supraclavicular lymph node on left side. He had a needle biopsy done and the results were negitive for cancer, also had a pet scan done which showed nothing. About two months ago he had an ultra sound of lymph node done again, this time 2.1 Cm. He acts very concerned and confused as to why it's still swollen and why the test showed nothing. He's ordered another pet scan, yet to be done. I was wondering has any body else had this and how concerned should I be? I've also been feeling poorly for the last few months.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, mrave0. It sounds like your MO is keeping tabs on the node.

I can't speak personally to this issue and hope others will chime in about it.

    Hello Gwen,

I'm sorry you're worried and feeling poorly. I'm obviously not an expert, but a couple of things occur to me:

Firstly, my understanding is that lymph nodes can enlarge for all sorts of reasons, not just because of cancer, so it could be that you're fighting some low level virus or other illness which is making you feel ill and your lymph node is a result of that. Let's hope so!

Also, I had a CT scan in February which showed 3mm progression since December in an inoperable tumour I have behind the sternum. My onc told me that in terms of reading rads, 3mm is actually considered to be stable, so I'm not sure why your onc is so worried about 1mm.

The good thing is that your team are keeping a close eye on you and this lymph node, so can act quickly if needs be. Fingers crossed that this all has an innocent explanation, though. Take care xx

    Mrave,

Have you been tested for mono?  You can get it more than once in your life (happened to my sister), it can hang on for months in adults because they generally aren't diagnosed until later, and it makes your lymph nodes swell.
