Seriously! I just typed out a whole novel here and it disappeared! Ugh!
Fierro, glad that nasty drain is out!
Dance, hang in there! Glad your heartburn is getting better!
Vball and krazy, sorry you are in the hospital, glad you are getting the care you need though!
indigo, happy anniversary!!!
Melrose, hang in there sister!
Stacie, so jealous! Alaska! On my top 3 places to visit!!
Anyway, had round 3 on Friday. Crashed on Monday. Way too hot yesterday! The heat does not agree with me! Today, my partner had to keep going outside to warm up. haha I can't really taste a whole lot, and have slight heartburn. Been doing the salt/soda/water rinse, but it doesn't seem to be helping this time.
Spending the rest of the week cleaning. My niece is getting married. The girls are getting ready here, since I had the landscaped yard from when the studio was here. I'll be shooting the wedding too, so all kinds of craziness going on. Lots of family coming in tomorrow. (gram lives next door, then mom on the other side of her, so they will be staying with them and at hotels, not with me!)
Here is the interview that the news station did if anyone is interested .......grrr why can't I post a link? It won't let me paste, and the button to add a link is greyed out.
-
Krazycatlady, argh, sorry you're in the hospital! Hope you feel better really soon.
Sandik, maybe I can google your news story - I'm trying it! If I can't find it, what are the call letters for the station? -
Try googling "WBRE buddy check May 2012" i think its called pixel perfect outlook or something.
-
Found it!!! Wow, that's awesome! Thanks for sharing!
-
Fierro - I did two happy dances - one for no more Jaxson, and one that you are feeling like it's better this evening as far as the tightness.
-
Krazycatlady---so sorry you're in the hospital! Keep us posted and feel better!
Sandik--Great story! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your niece's wedding!
-
DanceTracer - Sorry to hear about the various places of thrush. Your post made me wonder about the Aluminum...when I was considering do the cold-caps, the one thing they absolutely said to stop using was anti-persperant with Aluminum as it has something to do with the hair follicles not being able to retain the hair (apparently the cold-caps don't work as well if you use deoderant with Aluminum in it). I had never heard that Aluminum from anti-persperant ends up in hair follicles on the head. I was going to avoid using it until my hair grows back in. Have you read anything about this? Just curious. But more importantly, I hope your infection clears up fast!
-
Pkate - thanks for the information ....I get my first Taxol on June 6 and have been nervous not knowing what to expect.
I put the cream on my port before I go for my appointments and it is usually 2 hours before they start the infusion and I never feel a thing....so maybe they are off on the time it takes to really work.
I hope everyone is right and SE are much easier with Taxol. Best of luck to you! -
Ah, crap Krazycatlady37! Seems like more and more of us are having hospital admissions. This make 5 ladies I know of so far for this (one is not on this list). I hope your hospital stay is short, and they get you feeling better very, very quickly!!! Hugs! Glad you were on top of it and didn't hesitate to take action when you saw the fever come up. Knowledge is power.
vballmom - continuing to wish you well too! I hope we hear back soon from the other ladies that had been admitted. If y'all are out there, please report in!
My oral thrush is almost gone this morning! And the armpit thrush is improving. The rash is now brown instead of red, and the skin is peeling. It looks like a sunburn that is healing. It is the oddest looking thing!
I had ANOTHER good night last night - worst heartburn was right around 6 p.m. as I was about to eat my evening meal - classic time for me. I followed the advice I heard earlier and spent a TON of time chewing my food and eating slowly (have to watch the clock and slow myself down, put my fork down between bites...never knew how fast an eater I have become!). I also ate about half what I normally would plow through. I still had discomfort, but it didn't last quite as long. I also had discomfort when trying to sleep, but the sleeping pill knocked me out enough that I didn't need the Green Cocktail.
I think I'm definitely on the mend!!! This is the best I have felt at day 8 post TCH. All the other rounds I had a continual fever (the whole 3 weeks!) and bad heartburn, fatigue, big D, big C etc. Have only had a low grade fever a few times this round, and boy has it made a difference in my overall feeling of well-being. I hope people seeing me reach the depths of what felt like h*ll a few days ago, and now rebounding, gives them hope that they can make it through whatever side effects are happening to them.
-
wow sandik, you've got a busy week ahead of you. Hope the SE stay minimal and do not interfere with all that you need to do!
slak, I know, I read that about aluminum, too, in the cold cap stuff...that's part of the reason I stopped using antiperspirant. I don't feel like I have a choice, now, though, b/c I surely don't want to encourage more underarm thrush! Hopefully this will not have a big effect on my hair retention. I really don't know much more about the connection than what you said. The only other thing is some people feel that there might be some connection to aluminum to breast cancer...but really...there is no hard proof, so I never gave it too much credence. Heck, come to think of it, the Carafate I'm taking for the heartburn has tons of aluminum in it (we have to watch my kidneys for aluminum toxicity...uggh)...so I think if it were gonna do something major I'd see it by now. At least that's how I'm justifying it to myself! I think I'll email the cold cap people to find out more, now that you got me more curious! Will report back what I find out, if anything!
For those who have lost posts...ugggh...that really annoys me, too! I've gotten into the habit (usually) of highlighting my entire post, clicking control C, so I have it copied on my clipboard. If the page loses it, I can then come back and paste what I saved. I don't know how many times I've had to do that.
-
My nurse just came in and says my numbers are up. She thinks they'll spring me today.
I have been doing the Nyastin for thrush. It seems to help. Part of the roof of my mouth feels like sandpaper - almost like a cat's tongue. I will do the baking soda/salt rinses when I get home.
dancetrancer - glad you are finding some relief and solutions!
-
I have read that some of u talk about "crashing" will u describe that to me. Cause for 2 treatment cycles on the 8th day post treatment it feels like the bottom has fallen out. I am shaking, wore out/depleted & only want to sleep, it that crashing?. It has lasted for up to several days, then I come back @ a little but.
-
vballmom - hooray!!!!
nofear- my definition of "crashing" is feeling really good after chemo, thinking I've skipped out on the bad SE this time...and then getting whatever I end up being slammed with. I suspect everyone's definition of crashing is probably different based up what their SE are. I'm sorry you are feeling so crappy.
I don't know what your regimen is, but I think most chemo's the white cells go their lowest days 7 to 10...so perhaps you are feeling the effects of that? I feel much better this time b/c I've had Neupogen all along (I think that's the reason). I think it's also the reason I am finally starting to kick the thrush.
-
I am on AC which I just finished - starting taxol next week Wed.
-
That sounds about right for the white blood cells. I called the nurse & they said I could come in if I want otherwise to take an Ativan & sleep. If I still feel bad tomorrow to call back. I am on AC which I just finished & starting taxol next week weds. It just feels like I have no wind to move me at all.
-
Rest well nofear. And if you don't feel well tomorrow, maybe take them up on the offer to go in. I've heard many women say getting fluids has made a night and day difference in how they feel.
-
Sandi - love the video! I don't know how you are working as much as you do. I work out of our photo studio. Hubby is a commercial product photographer.
-
Good Morning Ladies,
Geez, skip reading for a few days and so much has happened. It's been a busy few days with my job and even though I work from home most of the time had to do the commute on Tuesday and was pooped when I got home, but everyone loved my short haircut. Doing good so far - 8 days post first TCH, the only thing bugging me is this horrible dry mouth/taste, dry skin and dry nasal passages. I've developed a total adversion to anything sweet - had some red velvet cake/cupcakes and they tasted gross (so sad:):)
Have my first of many Herceptin only infusions on Friday - going to take a long lunch hour from work, do the infusion and then go back to work, hopefully this will be easy and no SE's of any kind?
vballmom - hopefully you'll get sprung from the hospital today, hope you are feeling better.
fierro - congrats on the no drain
dancetrancer - glad the indigestion is subsiding
Hope everyone is feeling better.
-
Vballmom- happy to hear you are feeling better today and possibly going home!
Krazycatlady- sorry to hear you are in the hospital- hope you feel better soon.
I got my hair buzzed this morning, doesn't look bad at all. I am not great with technology, but I have gotten pics up on facebook, so I will try to get a pic taken and uploaded.
Sandik- If when typing out your message you flip around to past pages, you need to use the back curser to find your message. -
Sandik - Great interview and your photography they showed in the background is beautiful.
-
rgina- Just to let you know about the first Herceptin infusion you have on Friday. I'm receiving Herceptin with my Taxotere/Cytoxan chemo round. The first Herceptin infusion usually runs an 1 1/2 hours which is slower than the rest of the Herceptin infusions. It is run through slower so that the infusion staff can watch and moniter you for any side effects during the infusion. Also, I've been told by some veteran chemo patients that if I should avoid eating my favorite foods while my taste buds are off during chemo so those foods will remain my favorite foods after I finish my chemo. My taste buds usually return by the second week after my chemo. Good Luck tomorrow!
-
rgina - I feel fine after my Herceptin only infusions. They give me benadryl prior, and that makes me a bit sleepy - that is the only issue you may have, depending on how Benadryl affects you. I just wait a little bit before I try to drive.
You know it must not be bad if I do well with it. LOL
dry nasal passages - a touch of baby oil via a Qtip fixes mine right up. Slightly drippy at first, but only for a moment or two.
dry skin - I constantly moisturize. Especially feet and hands which can be prone to issues if you do not keep them moisturized.
Glad you hear you are doing so well - it's amazing to me! Especially since you do not get a Neulasta shot. Wow. You are a lucky gal.
For all with taste issues...here is an interesting web site. It's put together by an oncologist who also is a trained chef. You can search the recipes by issue. Click the "therapeutic tab" and in the drop down box you can choose an option like "stimulating taste". It will pull up some unique recipes he has designed towards that effort. If anyone tries a recipe, let us know how it was and if it worked!
-
Nance72- YAY!!! You took control over the hair before it took control over you!!!!
-
Melrose - I got Herceptin last week with my Taxotere and Carboplatin and that did take 1 1/2 hours, this week and next week is Herceptin only and they said it should only take an hour this time - hope they are right, if not it will be an extra, extra long lunch hour! Good idea on avoiding favorite foods, when red velvet cake tastes nasty that's some serious messed up taste buds. Another odd food thing is that my entire life I have hated cereal of all kinds, but I bought some multi-grain for the fiber and I love it - go figure.
-
sandik - found your interview - GREAT job!!!!
-
rgina- Somehow our bodies know that we just need to eat good healthy food right now!!!! I know when my taste buds are really back---- I can eat Doritos and they actually taste like Doritos!!! That's my bad snack.....
-
sandik- Wonderful interview!!!! Twin.... you look beautiful; just like all of your photo work!!! Hope you are feeling well. I'm getting better everyday and ready for next week's #3 chemo. I'll have just 3 more to go after that!!!! HUGS!!!
-
Dancetrancer - thank you for the cookbook link - just briefly glanced at it but some of these recipes look wonderful and I've always loved to cook.
-
Hi everyone, sitting here in the chair waiting for tx#3. Port draw was so easy! And woohoo, labs were all normal and white counts better than last time. I am happy I took the Marrow Plus. For some reason I've been more anxious this time because I started thinking about the future and where to go from here. :-( The NP I saw today blamed that on chemopause because nothing else has changed.
I'm sure glad to hear that you are going home soon, vballmom! I hope everyone else who's been in the hospital gets better and goes home soon!
OK, firing up Monty Python and the Holy Grail with DS#2. Purple energy to everyone! -
Melrosemelrose: Congrats to you also on your son's graduation, big milestone. My onc doctor is startig me on neurontin for the muscle and body aches so hopefully I will be able to attend my daughters graduation on June 9. While I was in the hospital they gave me antiobiotics and a few neupogen shots and I feel way better this week. Only bad thing is my hair is starting to come out. Although its short already I'm thinking of just getting it cut lower cause my scalp is sore. I may do that today then when the rest comes out it won't feel so bad.
Dancetrancer: I will be walking tall for my babygirl thats for sure and thanks for the well wishes, the same goes out to you we will make it thru. I wasn;t feeling bad just chills most of the day, I tried to sleep it off, didn't work
IndigoMont11: You have me pegged right, I still attend monthly drills, and thanks
vballmom: Hang in there my neutrophils were very low when I was admitted and came up pretty good over 2 days. My Momo goes to her prom this Friday and I'm really excited, then to graduate the next week will be the topper. I plan on doing something with her, just the 2 of us, when the chemo treatments are over. She is my rock, and I know she worries about me. Between her and my mom I don't know who I worry about more.
Stacie: I'm a fellow military vet, but not a total vet yet. I'm trying to finish my 20 years for retirement, I have 2 more years to go. I will most likely get med boarded out within these last 2 years. Thank god I'm only Army National Guard. I've been getting all of my treatments thru the VA
