Abnormal mammo other side aftr cancer/treatment-"seeing changes"
I was diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 breast cancer last April. Went through single mastectomy, reconstruction, chemo, radiation and now on Tomoxifin since January. I went in for a screening mammogram on the left side because I have an upcoming surgery scheduled for a reduction and lift on that side (to even me out). They just called me back in for a follow-up diagnostic mammogram because they are seeing changes in that side from my last mammogram. I know it's fairly common to be called back in, but after having gone through this so recently, I am nervous.
I am wondering if there is anyone out there who had this happen to them and they are ok? What are the odds that this is cancer again already? I just finished chemo in October and radiation in December. I would truly appreciate any thoughts on the topic.

Kristin,
I'm 2 1/2 years out and went on May 8th for my 6 mo check up. Originally I had a lumpectomy with re-excission on my left side and reduction on the right. I've gone every 6 months for left side and yearly for right. After doing many more than normal amount of views they can back and told me that they saw something on each side. They immediately did an ultrasound on the right and said I needed a biopsy on both sides. I wouldn't leave the facility until they had scheduled the biopsies. I went this past Tuesday for an ultrasound guided needle core biopsy on the left and a stereotactic needle biopsy on the right. After much trying the doctor said I would require the stereotactic biopsies on both sides. I am still waiting for the results. I have an appointment on the 24th with my breast surgeon. I too am very converned. The waiting is by far the worst.
I hope that your results come back good. I'm hoping for the same thing, but what are the chances of 2 false alarms. We can go thru this together. Post as soon as you find out. I'll do the same. Hopefully we'll be able to share good news. Hugs, Leslie

I had just mamogram friday, follow up from radiation last dec. i am too nervous of results incase they come back positive and not wanting to hear. I had a grade 3, ductal carcinoma, but was lucky as nodes were clear, (just) if i had left first mamo any longer, the outcome i was told would of been quite grim. so hope you ladies do get good results. take care.

Just wanted to post and say that I dodged the buttet on both sides. The findings on the left side turned out to be calcifications and scar tissue. The nodule on the right side is benign fibrosis with tramatic fat necrosis. All I wanted to hear was the B-9 term used. Yes, now it's mamos every 6 months for both sides. That's an easy price to pay. Hope your results are as good as mine Kristin. Post when you get word. Any ladies out there waiting for results may they all be B-9. Hugs and prayers, Leslie

Just wondering about how long mamo results take to come back from follow up of radiation. Last time it was quick when i had first ever had one and that was to do a repeat and then i got a diagnosis, this time they had to compare the two, i had it last friday. it is nerve wracking wondering if it good or bad. they have not asked for another repeat one in which i am assuming things may be ok or they would of got me back to do more. i am too chicken to ring them, as i don't like bothering them as i know they are busy people.

I'm extremely fortunate that the hospital where I go they have you wait for the results before you leave. They do this for breast cancer people. They know that we don't like waiting. They also have you right there in case more studies are needed or if an ultra sound needs to be done, they can do it immediately. I does take longer, but you leave with an answer. Hope you receive good results soon midnight132. Will await your post. Hugs to all, Leslie

This is encouraging for me to read. I just finished chemo in Feb and radiation in the end of April followed by a hysterectomy/ooph 3 weeks ago. When I went back to my gyn for the 2 week follow up, he checked the area I had the masectomy and the other breast.
I am suppose to go back in Aug to the breast cancer surgeon and he called to have it moved up sooner. He said he felt something and this was a precaution. Not what I expected to hear. Hopefully, it will turn out to be nothing to be concerned about.
I hope yours is going well Kristin.
