Hi, I am just looking for some support and info. My Memaw(grandmother) had breast cancer several years ago. She had a partial mastectomy and lymph node removal. She has been sick and had an MRI. The MRI showed nodules all over her lungs extending down to her diagphram. She was referred to a pulmo doc and he ordered a PET scan. The scan showed metabolic activity and he did a biopsy via her throat. It came back negative. She was also dx with COPD. He wanted a repeat CT scan about 2 weeks ago which showed a change. He did a needle biopsy through her back. This biopsy came back positive for breast cancer. We meet with the ONCO doc on Thursday. Although I do not have the details of her patho report I am assuming we are dealing with a Stage IV. We just lost my mom in November to Esophageal cancer. My Memaw is 78 years old but still upset over this as anyone would be. I am trying to figure out if this came from her previous cancer or a new cancer. She had a shadow on her last mammo and the doc wanted to watch it for 6 months. This doesn't make since knowing her history but now 6 months later here we are. Any info and support is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to where no one wants to be. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with this twice; especially so close in time.

I believe that meets the criteria for stage IV.  The question about this being a new cancer or a recurrence and why the decision was made to wait 6 months...those would have to be answered by the oncologist.

I wish I could be more help. I'm new to this breast cancer stuff myself.

    Eric

Hi nursing, sorry to hear about your memaw.  You are indeed dealing with stage IV and it will be from her original Dx (diagnosis).  That is part of the nature of BC (breast cancer), it is so sneaky and can turn up as progression even twenty ot thiry years after the original dx.

I do hope she gets some good care and if you could find out what type of BC she has ie ER/PR+ or- Her2 + or - it will help us help you.

Love n hugs for both you and your memaw.    Chrissy
