    3jays:  Company is always a good inspiration!

    We had my BF's kids over yesterday for a "clean out the freezer" dinner.  I had managed to accumulate a lot of meat that I didn't want to leave frozen when we left for NC because it's too risky with the hurricane season upon us and possible power outages.  I did a mixed grill with a white and sweet potato casserole and broccoli and carrot salad.  The loved it.  I left just enough in the freezer to get us through this week.  After Memorial Day we head north for the summer and fall.  I will miss my grands so much this year...think I'll have to make a couple of trips back to see them.

    Company coming is always an incentive to de-clutter.

    Yesterday I hit the sewing room after church.  I worked about 3 hours and just went through stuff piece by piece.  I got rid of the equivelent of 1 1/2 tall kitchen garbage cans of stuff.  I still have a long way to go.  DH asked why I seemed frustrated and I let him know I have been trying to get shelving in there so I could organized the stuff.  Maybe now he will help me.  I mean you can just go through boxes and re-stack them so many times if you don't have any place to put them.

    I would like to get one of my decluttering projects done this month.  My big issue is that it seems the harder I work on a project5, the more the rest of my house suffers.

    I was making progress decluttering (5 large bags for donation). Suddenly a family medical crisis and my (somewhat critical) sister-in-law is arriving today to stay until Friday. I love her, but talking about my messy house really gets to me. I know, it shouldn't be messy but it is. So once again things are just shoved around and will have to be sorted all over. Grrrrr.

    Meece, I agree.  I work on a project and it seems that I just move stuff from one tabletop to another.  I just skimmed the original post from suzwes (hey, yesterday was one year since she started this thread) and need to put those clutter rules into practice.  But not tonight - going to bed.

    we actually got to blowing out the computer today.. its' been over a MONTH since dh promised he'd "get to it" so today, i said i was taking it to the store , for them to do it..i guess i'm down to threatening, now. can't do it too often, though..it loses its effect!!!

      another big black bag donated today..we;re moving slowly, but we're moving........

    Yesterday jsut before I got off work, DH called and said the alarm co. just called and the alarm had been triggered at one of our kitchen windows.  We called around to see if we could get ahold of a neighbor before we had them dispatch the police.  Couldn't get ahold of anyone so DH told them to go ahead and we both left work.  I made it home first to find one officer still in her patrol car in front of the neighbors.  They checked around the house and found nothing, but asked if I wanted them to walk through and check inside before I entered the house.  I said yes, but it was embarrassing for her (and her partner) to see my sewing room.  The rest of the house was okay, but the sewing room....

    Oh, Meece! So sorry your security may have been compromised, but your story brought back a memory from many,many years ago.

    In the 80's, my BFF and I were roommates in an apartment. In the summer, every night after dinner, we'd go play raquetball at the local college.

    One night we came home, opened the front door, and noticed that the sliding glass door to the patio was open. Fearing someone was inside, we bravely held our raquets up as weapons, and started down the hallway to look.

    Suddenly, all the lights went out. We ran screaming out into the parking lot and jumped in the car and drove to the corner 7-11 to call the police!!!

    We returned to the apartment with three squad cars. The lights were back on. As the officer entered our messy bedrooms, he exclaimed "Looks like the place was ransacked..."  My friend and I looked at each other and admitted, "No, it always looks this way...." We burned with embarassment.

    THEN - we remembered going out on the patio after dinner, and not shutting the door. It was us that caused the commotion. The lights going out just happened to be a temporary power outage.

    We still laugh about it....

    a  few years ago, i was out with 2 friends, and we walked in my front door, then i remembered i had to take one of them home, right around the corner..

      on the way: we started talking, and i asked them "who opened the front door? everyone had keys.. we realized NONE of us had.. so i sped up, called the police, and stupidly went in the house.. as we walked thru, we saw a bare foot going out our bedroom window, with no air conditon where it had been in that window.. boy, we raced out the front door, and waited for the police...later, we thanked God we didn't go in the 1st time, apparently he was still in the room

      the police found the airconditioner in the yard, on my bed; were a shirt, and red sneakers..

      one of the neighbors came to see what the cops were about, and told us a kid with red shoes, and a h hills shirt was by my house, just 1/2 hour ago...

      so, they chased down the side of the little river behind my house, and found a barefoot, shirtless guy with a bag full of jewelry there..

      so, the cop asked him, how'd you trash the bedroom so bad, and only get a bag of jewelry?? of course, the kid said "i didn't trash it.. it was already trashed when i got there...hahahaha (sad, but truee...)  3jays

    3jays:  That's a weird feeling...to come home to an open door.  I did that once when we lived in downtown Ft. Lauderdale..Rio Vista.  I started to walk inside and thought better of it...went out in the street and called the police.  By the time they got through searching the house and dusting for fingerprints, it was a mess!  The guy got away with my watch which was on the kitchen counter waiting to go to the jewelery store, and my BF's briefcase which was in the living room.  He had everything in that briefcase..his passport, credit cards, etc.  Not a good idea!  We had an alarm, but I didn't set it, so naturally the entire event was my fault!  The police said alarms are useless because the thieves know exactly how long it takes for the police to arrive and they are long gone by then.  I never felt comfortable living there after that so we sold and moved to a gated community.  Now we keep nothing of value in the house...any thief is going to be really disappointed if he breaks in..hehe!

    Teka, what is a Michigan?   I am from Chicago so we had some pretty well known hot dogs there. In Michigan I had a hot dog piled high with chili and onions. Perhaps that is a Michigan? 

    I miss Portillo's from Illinois. Great hot dogs and beef sandwiches. Great, I made my own mouth water with that one!

    Thanks Teka, that sounds a lot like the chilli we put on a hot dog. It is beanless chilli so very similar.

    We had all beef kosher hot dogs tonight. Just the best flavor of any!

    speaking of decluttering...we now in NC and every pair of pants and jeans I own are too big for me...good thing I brought some of my new ones or I would be looking like a bum!  I see a big trip to Goodwill in my future;)  BF's shorts are all too big for him as well!

    Today was yard work for about three hours...pulling weeds and trimming the bushes that got so overgrown with our delay in arriving.

    I'll unpack when I make some room in the closet for the new clothes...lol!

    Happy June, everyone!

    A new month, a fresh start....

    The donation box is filling up nicely with books, but the other day I was going through my clothes donation box.  I spied a nice skirt I've always liked and couldn't wear for the past five years because it was waaay too small. Well, I hauled it out - and it fit!!!!  Smile

    So now I guess I need to go through my closet and find something else to donate....
