Triple Negative in women over 70

I am 71 years old.  I was recently diagnosed .  I have met with an oncologist and gotten a second opinion in San Francisco.  These doctors have two different ideas on chemo.  I can't find anything on chemo for someone my age with my type of tumor.  I need to make a decision soon.  My tumor was 1.5 cm and all nodes and margins were negative.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi there.  Sorry you're having to join this group but there is lots of great information on this website on TNBC.  Your age is a bit of an anomoly given that many of those diagnosed with this are quite young.  However there are plenty of us out here who weren't young when diagnosed.  I was diagnosed at ages 54 and 64, both times with TNBC (two separate cases, not recurrent).  I'm not sure if your age would figure into the type of treatment you will receive and maybe there are others who will be along shortly can address this more completely.  My first bout I had a lumpectomy, CMF chemo (8 treatments) and radiation.  The 2nd time was on the same side as the first so required a mastectomy and I decided to do a BMX, followed by 4 AC + 4 Taxol chemo treatments, all Dose Dense.  But you should post on the Triple Negative thread as that's where you'll get more specific responses.  Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your response.  The doctor in SF is suggesting CMF and the doctor in my area is suggesting Taxanes.

I can't even find studies that address results in women my age.  Both doctors think I would definitely benefit from chemo.  I am physically very active so quality of life is an issue.

I will post in the site you suggest if I can find it.

Try going to Lillian Shockley's site "ask-an-expert" from John Hopkins breast cancer centre. She will give you info!

Sorry you're going through this. If you scroll down more, you'll find there's a forum on Triple Negative. You may find more info and/or get more responses there. I see you're already getting a second opinion, which is good. If you're looking for a third opinion (not unheard of) Stanford has a special women's cancer center. Maybe someone there has extra expertise in TN patients of all ages.
