ABout mastectomy shops, I was in NY recently and thought I would try shopping for some bra alternatives while there. I went to the mastectomy shop at Sloan Kettering and explained to the woman that I could not wear a bra beacuse of lymphedema and was looking for alternatives. She had some ahhh bras and I asked to try one, except she did not have my size. Then she tried to give me a sports bra with a heavy, lumpy elastic at the bottom. I repeated that I have truncal lymphedema. She looked sort of confused and then became put out when she discovered that I wasn't wearing silicone.

    Nothing doing.

Momine - If you are interested in the Ahhh you might also want to try on the Genie which has a pocket already built in, though you will need to add a couple of tack stitches in the center to prevent shifting to the center and make the pocket opening wider - both of which are very easy simple fixes.  Look around at your local Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, or Walgreens.  Typically they are in the "As Seen On TV" section of the store.  Plan to go up a size from what the packaging indicates.   The Genie seems to be more readily available in my local area but I do see both.  Best if you can find them at Walmart or Target where you can immediately try them on and decide if they will work for you or not.

In my area, the Ahhh comes 1 to a package for $19.99, and the Genie comes 2 (1 Nude & 1 black) to a package for $19.99.

Thanks Barbara. I did pick up a pack of genie bras at a CVS, but didn't know about the sizing. Alas, they are way too tight. Maybe I will try again next time I am there (I do not live in the US).

I went to a fitter and had a fabulous fit the first time. I am well-endowed and had right masectomy only. Plan to have left masectomy and reconstruction so needed an interim solution. Fitter gave me a 'loaner' boob that was returned when previous owner no longer needed it. Fits very nice and looks pretty balanced considering my size.

Then I had shoulder pain I couldn't get rid off. Put the loaner boob in the drawer and went back to my poofy boob filled with batting. Feels better, looks lopsided, not sure I care. I'd rather be comfortable. I figure it's a good interim solution.

So I have an every day boob and and dress-up boob. I work from home, guess if I was in the public everyday it would be a different story. Plus winter is gone and so are the concealing layers of clothing.

I still chose comfort over balanced boobs Laughing

Momine, I went up three sizes on the ahhhh bra and it still hurt where my lymph nodes were removed. And then the cups sorta collapsed in on my small foam foobs, so it was not a pretty picture and didn't feel well either.

I am eagerly waiting for my Still Me cami to arrive.

3jaysmom - Where have you seen the Ahh with a pocket?  I just looked on the official Ahh website and did not see any mention of pockets or privacy shields.
