Alowen and ladies,- just got back from the gyno office. She confirmed that it sounds like the Tamox could be the culprit for the issues I'm having. She also thinks I have a fibroid and is ording an ultrasound. She mentioned that if the lining of the uterus is thick and I have fibroids she would probably recommend a hysterecomy. REALLY NOW!! This stuff just isn't making sense to me. I thought most women got fibroids because of the estrogen and when they are menopausa they shrinkl. If that's not needed she talked about some other procedures in the office and or D&C.

sweetie...from what I understand....the tamoxifen acts like estrogen on the uterus and bones.  That is why the uterine lining can grow when we use tamoxifen and why there is an increased risk for uterine cancer.  So, yes, fibroid growth could be from the tamoxifen. She might want to do a uterine ablation or a D&C to reduce the lining if you don't need a hysterectomy.  Good luck

sweetie - Fibroids don't necessarily shrink after menopause.  Last year when I went for my annual pap, I insisted on having a transvaginal ultrasound done.  It showed a 1.5 cm fibroid and a very thick uterus. My GYN did a hysteroscopy (biopsy) and a D & C. This is a simple outpatient surgery and when I got home I felt like I had wasted a day at the hospital.  I felt great, no bleeding, no pain meds needed.  The fibroid was B9 and is still there.  No need to remove it unless it gives me problems.  A hysterectomy may be a bit of overkill.  Talk to your GYN and see if this would be an option for you.

Sweetie, I agree with Jo.  The hysterectomy may be overkill.  I have heard that the tamox acts like estrogen on the uterus.  Premenopausal often have fibroids.  I have them and have opted to hang on to my uterus.  Like Jo, I had the ultrasound and the fibroids are benign.  Taking tamox could increase the symptoms of the fibroids and that is likely what is happening.  But there are so many alternatives today to yanking out the uterus.  I have just waited it out.  At the point I am at now, my periods are less and so not as heavy of bleeding or as often.  The d and c, or ablation are good options I hear, though, again, I've not had any of that done as I was willing to just wait it out.  Thanks for giving me a heads up that this issue may arise with whatever therapies I go into next.  Good luck on the ultrasound and keep us posted.  I'd say chances are very good it is benign and if that is the case, the office options are good and even those don't have to be taken, they are usually done to alleviate the discomfort of heavy bleeding and other symptoms.  Questions to ask if you get to that point are: will this option alleviate my symptoms?  Yours are bloating, etc. and you need to look at whether the symptoms will be alleviated by the procedure.  Also, whether the symptoms are temporary.  Another note: may try plant based, whole food diet.  Many symptoms of mine were taken out by that.

heartsnsoul, I have been off tamoxifen for almost 10 weeks, and am still having lots of pain issues. I think some of us just have a prolonged reaction to chemo, cancer, surgery, med SEs. Some days I am able to "just BE" with the pain, other days I am angry, some days I just need to take the damned pain pill and feel better, some days more rest is helpful. I actually teach an elective for pharmacy students on pain management, and it is very interesting to read all the literature, what is known and what is not known. We DON'T know a WHOLE LOT MORE than we DO know!!!!!

Have read posts, thinking of all you lovely wonderful women and hoping for a good weekend. Fingers bothering me a lot so am not typing much, but wanted you to know I am hanging in there for pocket parties for Jo and anyone else who needs me next week!

Am I missing something?  Does T interfere with our healing?  On 5/8 I had two small skin biopsies done.  I would have expected them to be pretty well healed by now.  One on top of the foot and the other on the back of the thigh a bit above the knee.  They're still rather sensitive.  It's not that they didn't get a layer of sealing themselves in.  Just today I've had to put bandaids back on them although initially that was only for a few days.

Linda I hear you and get you on the good and bad days.  Somedays I'm so glad I did do chemo/tammo.  I also have days that I just want to spit nails at this whole cancer treatment thing.  I know my kiddos are older, but we still roughhouse sometimes.  Well I went to go block a shot coming at me and my daughter whacked my arm a good one.  I felt it clear down to my bone.  It really hurt bad.  Never had that problem before.  We all could roughouse with no problem, that is until BC.  I got rather upset about it to the point of I started crying because I wanted the old life back.  Not none of this sissy crap, where I got my licks and could dish them out too!.

Galsal I have noticed that it takes me longer to heal compared to before BC.

Have a great night all.  I will be posting back later with some weekend eyecandy!

    Hi All,

Jo, I am soooo glad you are getting rid of that extra appendage!!!

Sweetie, I went through the same thing after I started Tamox. After ultrasounds, uterine biopsy, a few not so permanent options, I went with the hysterectomy. Between all my doctors, it was decided because of the ER+ BC, that was the best option, and truthfully, out of the whole surgery episode, the easiest of the 3 (BMX, expanders and hyster), the hysterectomy. I hope that you get good results from your ultra sound and it can be taken care of simply!!!

It's Friday night and I'm ready for a weekend kickstart!!!!  WHACK on Jo!!!!!

Yes to the healing more slowly.  Have a problem with my SI joint, last flair took 3 months to heal this time (after T) it is 5 1/2 months and counting.  Every old injury seems to be popping up again too.  When did I get to be so old.

Only 3 hrs of sleep last night.  Got 5 the 2 nights before by taking sleeping pill, but doctor says not to take them all the time.  Can get about the same most nights without - don't seem to work well for me.  I hate T this morning (and last night too).  Feel bad because I hated my husband, not for snoring, but because he was sleeping.  He works so hard he really needs it (off to work at 6 am this morning) but I was so jealous.

Going to my parents this weekend (about 2 hrs away).  Will be busy because they live in cottage country and it is a holiday weekend here.  Think I better let someone else drive.  Having bday dinner tonight for my mom/daughter.

The eye candy was a nice pick-me-up this morning.

Fingers crossed for you on Monday Jo.

Here is to us all feeling better soon.  Hope you all have a good weekend

uh oh! yes paybacks are rough... but bring it on sista!!!!!! lol

yes too true that does describe our lives in a nutshell!!!

JoJo I think you have to listen to your body. 2 weeks the Tamoxifen is still in your system so you would still be covered, so maybe a little break would help. I know when I had to come off of it a few times surgery and se and tooks breaks what helped me going back on was goig back on it slowly. I would do 5mg for a week then 10mg for a weeek then 15 mg for a week and then split the 10mg into am and pm doses.. that actually did help quite a bit. The ones I have now as far as se I think will be with me the whole time... so I am trying my best to go with it although some days I do think there is no way I am going to go another 3 and half years ont his stuff and other sayd I am just reseigned to it. Whatever you decide we are here!!! hugs

Going to a very dear friends daughters wedding today... so heading out soon

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday and just for good measure.... whaaaaaaacccckkkkk!!!!
