GG-----see a new thing, never heard of directional hearing problem--whew that could be a problem. "Wrong way Corrigan", Wrong way Gail". GG I do the same thing about food. I'm not sure how much weight I've lost b/c I didn't have food that I wanted to eat in the house. It helped to clear out stuff I didn't want to eat. lol's
If you use those riding carts, they have a learning curve, so, drive slow at first and watch those back ups. Had to use them first few trips out.
Folks the music turned off. drat. Then silence on that side. This am the crickets are back. It's like white noise, I pretend it's evening crickets----more tolerable that way. Don't think I directed a change from Swing Jazz to Blues. There were still lots of horns. I'll only know if it happens again. It 'd be very cool to have an Optic Migraine at the same time. Music and a Light show all at the same time. That'd be a WOW
Fuzzy---Freedom or Free for the trike-------it gives you freedom, you'll be free from work assholes,You feel free when your on it, you can through your arms in the air and scream "I'm free" as you jump in the air before riding. Reaffirmation that you are now in control of your life. Reaffirmation of such a good thing is very go for the spirit.
Crog-my twin(2) and brother(4) and I(2) had polio in 1952, we had physical therapy for 4 years. In polio the tendons get tight. The stretching exercises are the best. it'd be nice if you had someone do them with you. The helper actually can make a stronger/ more extended stretch than you can by yourself. Must do full body stretch minimum once a day. Can do mini stretches a couple more times a day. Also, ask your physical therapist for those rubber stretch things that you can put on the arch and pull with your hands. Remember to work the whole leg , butt and back. Add the other leg when allowed. Foot massage before working foot to loosen things up. Moist Deep heat after will help keep them from tightening up after to quick after. How to: Warm damp towel with heating pad over top--not hot, about 50-75% on the dial. If you go to physical therapy ask for the warm moist packs all over---they will have to get orders likey---you will feel immenesly wonderful. Why all over. Well just working the foot is going to fatigue the other muscles, so, you want to keep them happy---trust me. One time of the packs all over you'll agree-cautionary avoid foobs---going to cut and paste this for someone else with afoot problem
-
SAS thanks for the info... What exactly do you mean by full body stretch and do you mean the helper pushes on the foot? I have been using magazines, I am up to 2 of them.. I put the ball of my foot on magazine and stretch my heel to the floor... Been doing those three times a day... Will try the warm pack.

Fuzzy - LOVE the trike!
A friend here was snowed in during a week-long snow event. (We have steep hills and no snow plows.) Unable to get out to buy junk food, she was forced to eat real food. At the end of the week, she'd lost 10lbs and decided to stay off the junk food. Now she's normal weight and has twice the energy.

Folks any one wanting to read about Musical Ear here's the link to the site that I felt gave the best info. The way it reads this is the person that coined the phrase Musical Ear Syndrome versus auditory hallucination. I'm going to C&P it to Fuzzy RR and BG's too.
http://www.hearinglosshelp.com/articles/mes.htm
Crog stretching: basically taking each body part and stretching in each direction the joint moves. Laying around actually fatigues the muscles, which translates to "stiff and sore". If you only work on the foot, by positioning yourself to get to the foot , you will be stressing the other body parts until they get their own bit of work. In re: to the helper, there are multiple maneuvers they can do. I hope I can describe them.
1.---Left Leg flat, helper use ring and long finger to ring the ankle of your left ankle. This is to stabilize the foot against the bed. Helper takes palm of right hand and places it in arch with fingers going up towards toes, helper pushes towards your head. You will feel a stretch in the arch>>achilles>calf>>some of upper leg>>>hold for say ten seconds >>relax and then repeat. This maneuver was the BEST when any cramping of the lower leg post polio. I used it in nursing for years. For your situation where tendons are tight in foot and lower leg it's great.
2. This one is harder to describe, but is a good stretch for the whole leg and buttock. Particularly, helpful with Pyriformis. Lay flat--helper takes left leg cradles it on left forearm with the foot against helpers bicep --the lower leg will effectively be laying on helpers forearm with helpers hand supporting the upper calf. Raise leg at 45 degrees off bed. Helper slowly and gently leans towards your head with their body. The foot against the bicep will start to stretch (flex)towards your head. Just even standing with it positioned as in the positioning sentence, you will start to feel a stretch on the whole leg and foot. when they start to lean forward, the stretch becomes stronger. If the tendons are very very tight, minimal lean towards your head by helper will produce a stronger response by you. At first just staying in the positioning stance will be all you may want to do at first. That's why slow and gentle. Don't force. It may take days to be able to advance to the lean this will be so, if tendons are very very tight. So have your helper read this and practice on someone else before they do it to you. The knee will have a tendency to want to bend --the helper gently places the right hand at the knee to keep it from bending. Once helper is able to add leaning , you will feel the stretch in the bottom of foot(Plantar fascia) >>Achilles>>calf>>hamstrings>>buttock. This was a standard maneuver in post polio exercises or when cramping occurred. Nothing like a post polio cramp. I have seen athletes do this in warm ups. Little did they know it came from the teachings of Nurse Kinney who developed the polio stretching exercises in Australia.
Crog I know this is long , but it will make a huge difference. As always I must say get permission from your doc first.
Had a patient one time that was screaming in agony with cramping of hamstring and pyriformis(butt). Thankfully , it was first thing in the morning, doc was there to tell her MRI's of spine and pelvis showed no displacement and that she would have to learn to live with it and that he was making a referral to a pain mgt doc. I asked him if I could do the post polio stretches with her. He said I could. Within less than a minute her spasms were released. Every time she spasmed that day she screamed for me. I taught husband. Frequency decreased throughout day. When I left her that night she was a happy lady. Two reasons they both knew what to do when she spasmed and the pain with a spasm was controlled b/c spasm was controlled. There is another stretch for the pyriformis(butt), but this is over long now. Read through and have helper practice on a volunteer first. If it doesn't make sense ,then delay till we post.

I found out today that my pet scan was good. It showed cancer in my left breast only. Everything else is cancer free! It didn't grow outside of the breast. Feeling relieved. I just figured that if I didn't hear from them it was good news.
-
SAS. Thank you again for your info. The first stretch we are already doing so.. Will have my husband try the other one on my left leg first before he tries it on my bad side (right side)... If you want to PM me on the third stretch feel free to.... I am up for any help I can get...
-
Veggy so glad that your PET scan came back good and the cancer has not left the left breast....
-
Crog-Still confused apparently------the operative side was the left. The bad leg nonoperative side was the right. Shouldn't do anything to which ever was operated on without doc clearance. Even the stretch for the non-operative side should be cleared with doc first. The third stretch is specifically for pyriformis. Unless doc clearance is given for this stretch I won't describe it. Because of the nature of your surgery on the operative leg.
-
SAS Oh ok. My last operation was on the left side but my problem with foot and tendons is on the right side. I have been okayed to do stretches on both sides. I had physical therapy here from visiting nurses after my last operation and she showed me the exercise to do with the magazines and graduating up to book and then step.... My left foot and leg are fine ( no tendons are really tight on that side). My insision is all healed. It has been 4 weeks tomorrow since my last operation. I actually have bounced back quite well from this last operation.... Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this to me...

VEGGY!!!! THATS AWESOME NEWS!!!!!!!!! I HAVE GOOSEBUMPS!!!!
-
Thanks Fuzzy! It took a couple of hours for that news to really sink in.
Its time to do the Happy Dance ...
-
Veggy - GREAT NEWS!!! So happy for you, and hopefully you're somewhat relieved...
Fuzzy - the Fuzzmobile? I'll go for a ride. I need a driver. This last fill killed me. I can hardly move.
GG - I might actually try that diet. I'm getting bigger by the day. And my PS won't so a tummy tuck for 5 years. A least it gives me a little more time to save up for it...
Going to visit the pill fairy. Hopefully she'll have something to make this pain more tolerable. I'm miserable today. -
veggy - yay!!!

I love the trike too Fuzz!!! It looks like a blast. If I had a garage I might get one, but no, I would get another motorcycle. I rode motorcycles from 15 to 52ish. I think that's when I sold the last one. The roads are just too crazy. People on their cell phones pay too little attention. The cars are quieter inside now except for the nicer sound systems, so they don't hear bikers. Anyway, it got to where I could not predict what they were going to do. Still, if I had a garage, I'd get another, even if just for Sunday rides.

(((Veggy))) so happy for you!!!
SAS I just wanted to say, my mom is a retired nurse and listening to you makes me feel like I'm at home. That's a compliment!!
Fuzzy I love it!! If I help with a name it will have to be a different day because my brain isn't working today lol. I'll take a ride any time. My lungs are scarred from the cancer and walking from a parking spot (next to the buiding) to the door leaves me winded
That trike looks great and fun!

Have any of you ladies felt that you were being treated unfairly at work, and what did you do about it?
I am really trying to hang on to my job. While I could take an early retirement in June, it would be extemely financially difficult. However, they are giving me a hard time about sick time.
Well, I'm probably calling out sick in the morning. I've been working under the influence of a cocktail of hydrocodone and xanax this week since overdoing it on Sunday. I don't think I should be driving around like that. They seem to think that everything is OK now. I still have TE pain. I still have PT. I still have to learn preventive LE care. I still get TE fills. And I still have to take care of my house and laundry and all that other good stuff. I am paying someone to mow my lawn, so that is one less worry. But it is very hard to take proper care of myself and work full time. Then they stressed me out by telling me to watch the sick time. What idiots!
Anyway, I know this room is about lightening up, but if you don't mind, how do I deal with these dumb male bosses I have? Maybe we can come up with some silly comments. Then I might not take the whole thing so seriously. Let them take it seriously if they want to. I'll just laugh to myself.
-
Hi Dune! Actually, Fuzzy also wanted this room to be where you could just rip it up. That's what I used to tell Goldwyn, one of our dogs, and boy would she tear into this little fur "baby" she had. I'm personally very glad you are taking the day off, makes for a long weekend, I hope!
Let's see, you asked what to do. I think you could pick and choose from some of these ideas: I think you could put together a brief letter, in which you quote the website & name of the section that protects women who have cancer with leave time, and a line or two as to what it says. Here's a couple places where the eeoc.gov talks about leave time. The FMLA, I believe that applies when the company is 50 employees or more.
Equal Employment Opportunity EEO info on cancer:
http://www.eeoc.gov/facts/cancer.html
ADA Section 11 discusses accomodations for employees with cancer
http://www.eeoc.gov/policy/docs/fmlaada.html
Family and Medical Leave Act defines length of medical leaveThen quote in the letter what your boss said about watching your leave time, and explain that you cannot help but feel awful sometimes, and that's why you're protected by law. And if you can put one detail that is VERY graphic as to how painful a specific thing is, do it. Then, this is the kicker, make sure you carbon copy the top one or two head guys in the place, not to mention a top female in the place perhaps. Then just hand it out, starting with the top bosses, ending with yours.
Keep it in your mind early retirement, just focus on that when you feel lousy about how you're being treated. Your insurance will carry you a little while, but you may consider going ahead and getting, for example, an AARP supplemental insurance card, it's better than nothing. And of course start saving a percentage, also perhaps find things in your home of value you don't really need anymore and plan to sell them, stash that cash in the bank, too. Also, remind yourself if you've been there a while, you should not feel too threatened, really, altho there are exceptions.
And then, if it gets quite serious down there, you can contact a lawyer, tell him the story, that you would appreciate it if he would send them a second letter, that you are prepared to go to court, and suggesting they do whatever you demand. Then if absolutely necessary, you can tell the boss above yours as relates to whatever else bad comes up, that if they want to, you would be happy to sue them, or you might vacate without notice your position as early retirement, if that's what they want, and you would expect a severance pay equal to whatever (three months' pay, a round figure, etc), and they should begin to draw up Cobra papers, and they'll need to request the solution they choose via letter to your lawyer.
Hey, I don't know anything. But that's what I'd do. Most women don't like confrontation, this is what makes these things so hard, and MEN KNOW THIS. So, a letter, and/or a letter from a lawyer, this is how to avoid them sons o'beeches, plus if the top boss gets a copy of the shenanigans your boss is trying to pull off, THEY know the consequences of violating employee protection laws (lots of money), so you'll have bettter results by copying your communications from that nutcase boss of yours. And if he ever calls you to his office, you grab SOMEONE you've arranged with earlier to be a witness for you, and also to substantially protect you from any "abuse" in anger by your boss if he has a mind to yell.
Fuzzy probably can give you some tips, maybe she'll message you. Love, your sister, Gail
-
Teresa what a nice thing to say. It really means allot to a nurse when someone says it the way you did
Dune I ditto what Gail said.
Crog I interpret that you have been given clearance to do all PT. Pyriformis stretch:lay flat on back>>take either foot and put it over the knee and let it rest on the flat bed. Take the opposite hand and place it on the crossed knee. Gently pull the knee towards your face ,the knee wil be pointing at the 10-11 o'clock position. If pyriformis is tight you will fell a pull/stretch in the butt . Stop and hold for about 15 to 20 seconds, relax, then repeat. Once you feel no or a much reduced pull/stretch in the butt move to the next clock position----, then pull knee towards 12 o'lcock position and repeat hold and relax. Then pull knee towards 9'o'clock position. repeat hold and relax. Then put opposite hand at ankle and same side hand at knee and pull towards face this is essentially the 3 o'clock position. Each change in pull position will have a corresponding stretch on the butt. Repeat steps with other leg. This should not cause pain. It should feel good as the muscle releases. So significant pain is a reason to stop.
Hips: flat on your back---raise either leg from the hip off the bed to 45 degrees. holds and then lower to bed >>relax repeat. Repeat at higher degree of height off bed. Next with leg straight foot in normal position>>move leg out to side. Hold and then bring back to center line and relax. Repeat with other leg. This can be down in standing position also. Laying and standing , you will feel different groups of muscles supporting the leg and the use of hip and butt muscles low back and upper back muscles.
Low back. My guess is your Pt has given you many stretches for lower back, I'll add one. Flat on your back cross on leg over the other, your body wile rotate a bit as you hang the leg over side of bed. If possible have helper hold leg and stretch it towards your head very slow and gently. This also should feel good versus pain. Pain stop and return to neutral position.
From your first post your PT has you doing the standing exercises. so, I won't go through those. Good luck. Your last response where you said "OH ok. " I could just hear you, Crog. If you need a physical description of pyriformis let me know. L&H's sheila

Sometimes you just want to hit some people (bosses included) over the head with something...
But like this nail, they don't learn their lesson and continue to be stupid...
If you sneak up on them and bash them while their back is turned...
Might make the problem worse.
So take Dogeyed's advice...

Folks, my musical experience in the left ear apprantly rebooted the right ear. Silence for about 12 hours. It was heaven. But now has returned in right ear--not as roaring. I 'll add link if anyone wants to read about the sience behind"rebooting the neurons"
http://www.medical.hear-it.org/index.dsp?page=18138
already had added this but didn't add the --what --- about what it had done.
-
Thanks so much Shelia for all your help with exercises. You have been such a big help to me.
So the music is back.. Going to read the link you posted...
Have a great day everyone...
Cindy -
Crog happy the exercises help. The tinnitus the music "rebooted the neurons"(description in link) in the left ear for about 12 hours there was silence. Golden. Now the right ear has started again , but not as loud. The left that had the music is silent. NOW I hope the music starts again in the left , may be it will reboot the right again.

Dune - I've been having the same problem with idiotic male bosses, and just work in general. HR gave me some bad advice, which I took not knowing it was bad, and that screwed things up for my royally. I'm doing what I need to do for me and just saying F them! Don't rely on HR to help you. Ladies here have recommended documenting everything that happens. They can't discriminate against us, we're protected under the ADA. Take care of yourself, and if you feel like its really unfair, get a lawyer. They're the only ones who will be on your side when it comes to work issues.
Crog - PT did wonders for me. Although yesterday was a bitch and I kept having back spasms so she couldnt work on me. Does your PT specialize in BC patients? That was my requirement. We do massage, stretching and strength training. What a world of difference.
So my exchange is in less than 3 weeks and I can't wait. I'm counting down to getting these awful bricks off my chest. I feel like I'm at the end of a pregnancy when you're so big you can't move and just laying down hurts, not to mention trying to roll onto your side or get up. I can see the light, although its dim at this point.
