Does FB have a copyright on the "like" button?

maybe a button for OLD VIEW?  If I were new, I would skip this site now.

I believe that the site was changed to keep up with changing technology. It is much easier to read on my iPhone now but I never really used my iPhone much to go to this site anyway. I'm sure that there are lots of smart phone users out there that do though. On my iPad, which is were I access this most of the time, it has taken some getting used to for us old timers to renegotiate the site but I bet newcomers will not have the same issues.

I think it has been great for the mods to have a thread where you can vent and another on for ideas and constructive criticisms.

Threats to leave,if it doesn't change back, will not help the site any but it may help you with your frustrations. Thoughtful suggestions to help with the transition will be better appreciated. I did not like the change at first but I'm getting used to it. The big swath of grayish/beige on the left disappears when you turn the iPad in the verticle position so I imagine it does on the iPhone also. That makes it easier to read on mobile devices, which like it or not, is the future. Large format, high resolution monitors, especially led ones are much brighter than older screens, thus the brightness issues for some.

Let's tone down the rhetoric so that WE don't chase people away from this site.

In the My Favorite Topics, section, there is an option to remove the thread from favorites or to add email notification. An option to "mark as read" would be greatly appreciated.

"Let's tone down the rhetoric so that WE don't chase people away from this site."

I was thinking the same thing.

JoyLiesWithin -- for me, the OP has exactly the same color background as all following comments.  Don't know why, but I'm in the headache group.  Very mysterious.  It's not an aesthetic judgment, I just end up with a headache after 5 minutes.

Posts in bold are not as headache inducing for me. As to our rhetoric chasing people away, I really don't agree.

rosemary: i always use the bold, also. they are much easier to read..

a note to mods: still can't use " back to top". but, i have learned by poking around, to just use the bottom of the page, and click on favorite topics...

just think, gals in 10 months this will be old hat for us..

using 10 mos. isn't saying it'll take that long.. someone said she looks at life like this:

how will this affect me in 10 mos, 10 years??? so, this will be the "new normal" before we know it...3jays

The headache issue needs addressing urgently. I'm surprised they haven't tried other colours for a few days each to see if it helps. I've never heard of certain colours, brightnesses or contrasts causing headaches. My mother, who is 85, gets watery eyes when reading so she then can't see through the tears.  She's been like that for many years and has had one cataract removed, waiting to do the other.  She can't look at a computer screen for the same reason, but can watch TV.  It might be worth googling to see if any research has been done on these very real problems.

this is just too much work for me, I just got used to the other one, don't have an iphone or ipad and not getting one, so glad it works for them, but not for...had to learn the other site and now have to "learn this one" easier to leave to learn another one.....the nubies won't worry cause they don't know what the other was was like....this just isn't visually good...i wish I knew what was wrong with the other one and if I knew they were changing it before hand...

    OT:

Please no "like" button - that leads to mob rule and popularity contests. This would become like Facebook, God forbid.....

I'm old fashioned. When I like something I just express it in English. :-)

I tried Twitter but it bored me....Facebook is about as appealing to me as a green banana. Nothing like good old longhand discussions without having to compromise one's privacy. The salons of today are discussion forums. We have some great talks here.

    Back to "t" :)

SOMEthing must be wrong with me!   I don't get head-aches, I love reading in bold print... now... And all the functions of this site are working!

My "back to top" works, same as everything else I click!   The "type" is easy to read, and the color scheme is nothing different than any other web-site we look at...  Mostly white!

This all works on my desk-top, with AOL... I don't have a i-phone, i-pad, tablet, droid, or any other new fang-dangled gadget....

Just sayin' the changes threw me for a loop at first...maybe cause I'm older?  But I think everyone's computer, or gadget is different... All the devices "read this" differently, AND all the browsers.

Mods, we could keep this thread going till the cows come home, but I think you've done about as much as ANYone could do.......  It works just fine.....at least on my old computer, with these old eyes, and this old brain....Wink

Thanks for making this print larger.... THAT was my only complaint, and oh...the ADS!!!  And could you send someone out to fix our plumbing?  And maybe bring a pizza?

LOL  Ha ha aha  LOL -- Yes, love the large print. I'll have strawberries with cream thanks, and a smartphone for mother's day, and spell-check that recognises my alternative English spelling ... PLEASE!

So does that mean that a "smart phone" is smarter than an old dumb one?  And I'll have  a bag of chips with everything else!

I got it wrong.  British English is the original, also used in Australia, Canada and other English speaking countries.  American English is the alternative.  So leave our colours as they were, but tumours can go, whatever way they're spelt. Color is a crook spelling, fair dinkum!

JoyLiesWith: I hear you on the English front. I've lived in France for 11 years and worked with English speaking women from every English-speaking country including South Africa and India. Although I was US born, I prefer the British English spellings. I get confused however, and spell them both ways in the same missive! But I agree, the States are the alternative.

I don't mind the American English, but wish that on international sites, true English and American English were treated as alternative spellings, so color and colour (for example) would both be acceptable.  Is there an International dictionary?  If not, it's not the job of the BCO staff.

I'm liking this new format now that I've had time to use it.  Yes there are still a few gliches but on the whole, it's not too bad at all.

I think it was just a shock to our systems when we first saw it.

I am a moderator elsewhere.. my job is easy.. i delete porn or spam if i see them and replace them with poetry, perhaps haiku.

the forum is looking great btw

One suggestion is that  perhaps a whole forum could be marked as a 'favorite topic'... i.e. stage III (I wish)

Personally i find the many negative posts complaining about this and that all the time,  somewhat abusive  - i guess one gets to be steel hearted after a while.

Instead of "Back to the Top", scroll down just a little to the bottom where you'll find "My Favorite Topics" and other links.  It's so much quicker.

i don't know that it is better.. but what I really appreciate is that the person who was always following my posts with her posts saying the exact same thing doesn't know where i happen to be posting.

I would like to make a FORUM a favorite topic and would like to return easily to the forum that I am already in, rather than scroll thru the list of active topics.  I'm good tho.. It all seems to have worked out.

I like the pink or peach ... adds warmth. Mods have you thought about making the far left darker? It would take away some of the glare that is bothersome to the eyes. I agree with apple in it would be nice at least in our profile to know where' we've been so it's not necessary to hunt and search.

It's looking better. Still have to click a few times before replying and etc.

Is it just me....or are your "favorite topics" visited less?  Makes me wonder if people are frustrated with new format and are not checking in as often.

I don't like it and most of what I don't like has already been said by other posters.  Anyway, this is not the time I care to get used to something new with new treatments about to begin.  I need continuity in my life, not more changes.  It is a shame because this forum was fine as it was.

BaseballFan - I am definitely spending a LOT less time here - 2 minutes and I'm gone. I no longer check active topics to see if I can help with someone's questions and I wouldn't be surprised if others aren't either. I hate this format.
