Who else is in their 30's or 20's and wants kids someday after you've beaten BC. What are you doing to preserve your options?

In taking Lupron injections to shut down my ovaries and hopefully protect them from the chemo. Anyone else do this?

I froze my eggs.  I wish I had done Lupron, but it wasn't offered to me.  I was 37 at diagnosis, so I am not even certain how I will do this, especially since I am still single.  My sister has offered to be a surrogate, so that is probably the route I will take if I want to have kids before my 5 years on Tamoxifen are up.  As of now, I have seven eggs on ice.

I did Zolodex during chemo, also froze eggs though it was not very successful I only had 3 eggs to freeze. Also had part of an ovary removed and frozen in case of infertility from chemo. I did AC plus T, then radiation, but refused Tamoxifen as I wanted to try and conceive well before 5 years were up as I was already 36 (and the benefits of Tamox to me after chemo were far too low to justify losing my chance to conceive)

But as I have posted elsewhere on this board, the Zolodex worked, my fertility returned and 2 years after finishing chemo my darling baby Arthur was born.

So my story is a very happy one and I wish you the same!

I was stage Iv at diagnosis and so I didn't do anything to preserve my fertility. I was 32. My periods stopped during chemo. I was off chemo nine months and only had three periods, during that time (not in consecutive months) before I had an unexpected pregnancy. I am now 22 weeks with a little girl.

It is scary, given my diagnosis, but truly wonderful. I wish all of you ladies wanting to get pregnant after cancer the best of luck!!

I'm 38 and had been trying unsuccessfully to conceive for close to 2 years before dx. Now I've had a partial mastectomy and am awaiting an appt with oncologist for treatment protocol. Wondering if harvesting eggs now would be bad since I'm strongly er positive(8/8) I also have a low follicle count to begin with as I was already doing tests for infertility but had not yet taken any drugs

I'm 33 and probably wouldn't have found my lump if my husband and I hadn't been trying to concieve. HA! We currently have four embryos in cryo and are considering doing another cycle before starting chemo. I was able to do one cycle right after diagnosis - did the harvest the morning of my lumpectomy!

I am exactly in that position - 35, single, and would like to keep open the possibility of having my own kids. I'm meeting with the oncologist next week to discuss my treatment options - radiation is almost certain, as is Tamoxifen, but chemo is still in question. Would love to hear other's experiences.

I'm 31 and was intially diagnosed 2 1/2 months ago with stage IV mets to the spine, chest wall and liver. I completed my harvesting at the end of February and now have 4 embryos cryopreserved. I absolutely cannot wait until I am able to have children!!!

I am 32.  We preserved four embryos and I took Lupron shots during chemo.  I finished chemo on August 31, 2012 and had my last Lupron shot around that time.  I've been on tamoxifen since.  I am a bit concerned as my periods have not returned.  Is this normal on tamoxifen?

I am also planning on having Lupron injections but only to protect my ovaries and not to have kids afterwards - I don't want to end up in menopause.

I had 1 Lupron shot and have not continued this since. The fertility doctor thought I was "okay" not to jump into early menopause due to the fact I'm only 31. I will cross my fingers!!!!!

    Hi everyone!

We've been trying to have our second child for 5 years and we were two months away from finally being able to do IVF (had to save up!) when I received my diagnosis. We decided to still move ahead with the IVF and freeze our embryos - harvesting is scheduled for Thursday. We've been told by 2 Oncologist's our safest route to go would be a surrogate. Just going to freeze the embryos, get myself better then revisit the fertility side of things.

    Wishing everyone lots of luck!!

Hi all. I'm so happy to hear of all you women who are preserving your ability to have children later!!  How wonderful to know that so many doctors are taking fertility into consideration!

Unfortunately I was dx while pregnant with my first child so I was unable to do any fertility preservation.  My 3 y/o daughter and I are both healthy now.  I am trying for another child.  The chemo did damage my fertility.  My cycles came back 7 months after stopping tamoxifen but it looks like I am not ovulating and my ovarian reserve is very, very low.  This is my first month trying oral fertility meds.  Fingers crossed!

Rebex-I don't want to overstep here and of course every situation is different, but all current research shows that a pregnancy following breast cancer does not increase the chance of a recurrence.  Let me know if you want a link to the papers that talk about it.  I know you have other things to take care of first.  Good luck to you!
