Lung Node - What tests to ask for?

When I was having my pre-lumpectomy workoup three years ago a cat scan revealed a nodule in my lung on the uninvolved side. I have had cat scans every six months since then, and one PET scan. I was referred to a pulmunologist early on and he has been the one to follow me and makes reports to my internist and to my oncologist. He says we will do another PET scan next time.



I don't think anyone thinks this is metastatic breast cancer. It does not really increase in size but seems like every time there is some new aspect to it that requires follow up. I used to worry about it but now I just wish everyone would forget about it. It just seems like there is no definitive answer. My pulmunologist says it is not in a position that it could be biopsied. Before every follow up appointment I tell DH that I am NOT having another CAT scan and every time the doctor talks me into it! I have no lung related symptoms that might cause me more concern; no shortness of breath, no cough.



My private insurance never balked at paying for CAT and PET exams, and now that I am on Medicare, they are paying for the scans without argument.



I've read several other members here who are in similar holding patterns with lung nodules. This question does not appear to be something that is easy to resolve. I do believe, however, that mostly these nodules are benign and our doctors are just being careful. I hope you get a quick answer but if not, you will not be alone! Best wishes!
