Clear, Spontaneous Vaginal Discharge - Tamoxifen SE?
Hi ladies,
I've been experiencing some spontaneous and clear vaginal discharge. The other day I was sure it was my period but the discharge was clear. I did a search online and found out that this could be a side effect of Tamoxifen.
Has anyone experienced this? Should I get it checked by an OB? Is this an early sign of meno/chemopause?
Thanks!
Marcia

Marcia, yes, I think it's an SE of the tamoxifen. I don't know if it's an early sign, as my chemopause begain after my second tx. If you're worried, you should call your OB and ask about it. I've got to live with it for three more years, myself. Sigh.

It's absolutely a side effect of tamoxifen, it's one of the major listed side effects and I can tell you personally that for me, it goes in cycles. I can go several weeks with no discharge and then for a few months, it's just constant. It's always clear, and yes I have the same sensation that it's my period starting because a good amt. will come out sometimes. I often have to wear pantiliners because of it. It can get very annoying sometimes, but I look at it this way, it beats having the vaginal dryness that women on AIs get.
I believe it happens because tamoxifen is estrogenic to the whole genital system, causing more buildup of cells in the uterus, so I figure, it's just some of those excess cells shedding?

Ohhh yeah. Major SE of Tamox. I agree with Rose. As annoying as it is....I'd rather have this problem than the opposite.
-
Ditto...only one week in and it's already starting. But I will echo...better this than the opposite problem. I'm ok with tamons and pantyliners vs. felling like Priscilla Queen of the Dessert... :-)

I had this for about a month and I was never on tamoxifen. For me, it was my period making a come back.

I have this since I started tamoxifen 7 months ago. I was upset about it at first but I've learned to accept it. I wear pantyliners all the time. I also need the pantyliners for stress incontinence which got worse once my period stopped whilst I was on chemo.
I'm only 51 years old and I could do without this embarrassing symptom but I am happy I'm still here and so is my partner Dave. So, we deal with it. He still loves me even though I wear pantyliners LOL!

This was actually a welcome SE after my Onc switched me from Arimadex to Tomox. Sure got rid of the vaginal atrophy and extreme pain and bleeding during sex
But for me that was the only good SE on Tomox. I'm now on Aromosin and so far no bad SE's.

Barb, I was just the opposite. I was happy to leave the tamoxifen and start arimidex because of the discharge problem.

I concur with the ladies above. I started out on Zoladex during my chemo and experienced a bit of dryness. Once I finished chemo and started Tamo, I actually returned to a more normal moisture level, with occassional increases in discharge. But after having dryness, I'm not going to complain!
