Rash, possible reoccurrence?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this.  I've got a pimply rash (kind of looks like hives too) just below my incision on the right side of my chest.  It's a few inches below where the ILC was removed.  I had a BMX in September.  I've mentioned this to the Onc several times, as well as the surgeon again when I saw her in April.  They all think it's an allergic reaction to maybe the Tamoxifen.  I was told to take Claritin to see if it would go away.  No go.  Still there and appears to be getting worse.

I started researching over the weekend and found several articles (including one on BCO from Jennifer Sabol, MD) that says, "In addition, cancers that recur after a mastectomy tend to appear more like a rash on the surface of the skin than they do a mass deep within the reconstruction."

I've called my Onc and left a message but am wondering if anyone has some insight.  I had trouble sleeping last night worrying about this. Frown

Thanks,

Deborah

PS  This new site is very difficult to you.  I had to delete the post once already as there was a whole bunch of codes that appeared.  Crazy.

    Hi Galsal,

Thank you for your response.  I will see my Onc on Thursday this week.  I'm hoping it's just a rash of course.

A rash can be also be breast cellulitis - an infection. That's not good, but not cancer. I've had numerous breast infections since BMX in April 2011. No fun but not cancer, whohoo!.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Katarina.

I wasable to see ONC last week & she sent me to the dermatology urgent care where they did scrapings. No cancer! Thank God.

They think it's the continued allergic reaction to Tamoxifen. Got a script for steroid ointment. ONC says to keep taking it & come back to see her in 3 months.

    Thanks to all who responded.

    Deborah
