Hi ladies,

I'm two weeks out and not lifting anything heavy on either side of course (lift on unaffected side)---but when can I raise my surgical arm? I had four nodes removed. Should I start any exercise other than using the arm a bit more? I also haven't been raising it above my should. The reconstruction and nodes area are a bit painful but mostly able to avoid OTC painkillers, due to constipation issues.

Thanks...have read all the great info but not sure of the actually timing this early.

Get a referral to a Certified Lymphedema Therapist to get a baseline of where you are and to learn MLD massage. If the Certified LE is also a PT or OT then they can work with you on what you need for regaining ROM.

Are you saying that your ROM does not allow movement or that you are afraid to use it? Not moving is not healthy.

Talk with your Dr and ask for a referral(s).

If your concern is LE risk, you have already lowered that risk by waiting two weeks, research shows. So I agree with the others, get PT help and a plan to restore your range of motion.

Thanks, the BS nurses already discussed LE (before my surgery), so I will follow up with them.
