I can never write anything when I post a picture. What am I doing wrong?

I just realized you have been a very busy bee on these threads. &,000 plus. Wow. You were diagnosed the year I was and how crazy a recurrence can put you at stage IV yes? Were you at that stage right away or after the mets. Where did it occur nect? I continue to look over my shoulder because of the Grade 3 I think. A never ending battle.

Your story about the kids and cold water dishes made me laugh. They won't get clean with cold water, nor will the grease dissolve. Hehe. Do you have a dish washer? I'd go that route. Make them load and unload for their responsibility tasks.

Good for your daughter....I hate laundry. It's so thankless because in a few days you wear the stuff and it looks like garbage again.

 Good for you...I admire your church work. Church keeps us strong over here. We have to give back for all the wonderful things we have been given by our Lord and Savior.

you can see why I'd like to try painting my kids' portraits.. that would be so much fun, but I am afraid it is out of my skill set.

Your children are adorable!  OMG, are not all our children precious and so adorable! We love them dearly.

I feel so blessed with my two darling daughters, one of whom has produced a darling child (my first grandchild). She is so like her mother, that I feel I spend many moments revisiting my past when my children were little. These moments are both cherishing and thought provoking. Cherishing in that we revist our most precious moments in our past and thought provoking knowing that our mind can zoom into many aspects of our life as well as its challenges.

Our children grew up in our present house and left over 12 years ago. Many of the paintings on the walls capture their growing years and I think they are very aware of their past when they come into this home. A good example for me was when one of my daughters who lives in England came home one time. She walked into the living room and asked "where is my swan". The swan was a sculpture that she did when she was 7 years old and its back was open into which I placed pot pourri. The swan was placed close by a painting of when she and her sister were feeding the birds in Hide Park in London when they were small children. Interesting!

As an artist I feel that I have captured the most precious moments in my chidren's lives. My living room and dining room are adorned with different phases of my children's lives. Some of these paintings are somewhat naive as well as the more knowledgeable later ones.I can't bare to take down those paintings that lack the technique that I now know....to me they still provide pleasure whenever I walk into the room. I have friends that have ear marked some of these earlier paintings for whenever I want to sell. Probably because I have captured my children in cultural scenes that are so special in our own part of the world.

I know you are a really good artist and in fact I mentioned your name on page two of Sunflowers thread. I have seen many of your paintings set up against your piano. I play the piano too and thought I would set up an Appletype scene with all my paintings of my children next to my piano, for you to see, but it would too long so I decided against it.

 I played the piano for many years. I reached grade 7 at the Toronto Conservatory of Music which is no doubt a lesser level than you. Funny how things work out; many times I would be playing my piano the piano's reflection I could see a current painting sitting up against the fireplace that I was working on and at the time, I felt  more focussed on fixing my errors on my paintings rather than improving the musical piece that I was working on. So then, it was painting that won over my music. Often I regret not having pursued my music, but as my sister pointed out who is a teacher (we grew up in a musical home), musicians have nothing to display around the home. Hahahahaha! So I have a lovely piano that I hardly touch but I have lots of paintings!!! (I spend the winters in Florida and have no piano there, so my music skills are slowly fading away...sad huh! When I come home after being away in Florida I play and try to improve on some of my pieces but alas, the notes don't have the musicality they once had...).

I know you are a good artist, so why not start painting those wonderful children of yours. It won't be difficult for you from what I have seen of your past work. I paint in oils. I love oils. But I know plenty of artists who still like to paint in oil but have either gone to water based oils or even gone to oils using w alnut oil as a medium. The walnut oil, by the way, can be put on your salad, so you don't have to worry about that one. You can also try acrylics, I really like them and I often combine them with oils.

I look forward to seeing some paintings of those adorable children of yours.

Why not do some pencil sketches first. A good book I started with was Heads by Bridgeman. You could check in the library on that or other books about the fundamentals of drawing. Leonardo da Vinci stressed the importance of drawing and that a painting is only as good as its underlying drawing.

You have a good sense of design in your work and I look forward to see what you do.

This little one has been in Mexico since last October and just returned to Montreal a few weeks ago. Her mother (my daughter) is pregnant again due in September and didn't want to have the baby in Mexico. Anyway, this darling child has been going to the Montisori (sp?) school in Mexico since February of this year up until her return home. When she started the school where she attended 4 hours per day, she was only 20 months old. And my gosh she could understand instructions in Spanish in no time at all. She really loved it. My daughter checked out the Montisori close to where they live, but alas it is in English so they are so disappointed as children pick up languages as fast as the spread of wildfire and she wanted her child to have the benefit of furthering her language skills. She will be two end of July.
