Articles -- Gone ? :-)
Thank you to the powers that be for removing that slew of articles that we were all inundated with that first day of the new board format.
I agreed with what so many others posted that this was so intrusive and the bulk of the articles had absolutely nothing to do with me, my diagnosis, my treatment, my lifestyle, etc.
It appears that having a 'diagnosis' selected is the criteria for having these articles 'sent' .. or at least that's how I read this on my profile/bio page. I do prefer to have a diagnosis that is public to the discussion community, however I do not desire to have a diagnosis that allows BCO to send me suggested articles. When you are able to get the kinks worked out in the system regarding sending irrelevant articles, will there also be an 'opt out' feature for this, so that one can maintain a public or private diagnosis without receiving the articles?
Thanks again for getting those off in a timely manner.

I believe a separate section, similar to All Forums, but confined to these articles would enable us to find relevant articles. If those articles could have keywords attached, like in a blog, then we could search by keywords. Selecting Early Stage and Hormonals would get us the relevant articles with the most recent at the top. Also, NEW articles could have that keyword so we could easily find them.
We would then have a choice whether to read such articles or not.
I love research and spent ages reading the articles offered to me, archiving or saving some and leaving some to read later. Now they've all disappeared.

The mods have said that when the articles section returns there will be an opt out feature.
The full set of articles are available on the main pages under the title "Breast Cancer In the News' . The direct link is http://www.breastcancer.org/news_research/
Hope this helps.

Yes, there will be an opt out feature. The reason we have designed this feature (albeit, in this large scale the program had a nervous break-down-- as it was fine in our testing) is that many folks find our discussion boards when they are first diagnosed and never even realize that we have a slew of information on our main site. Our team of medical experts are constantly reviewing research articles and writing/updating new sections on the core site. Theoretically, if you type in IDC, Stage II, there should be all research article presented to you relating to that diagnosis. If you then type in a treatment (e.g. Tamoxifen), again, it will show you what we have about that treatment. Our hope is that this will help people be able to make more informed decisions, and stay up-to-date on treatment options. It is not meant to annoy anyone. So, therefore we will indeed have an opt-out for those who prefer not to receive them.
