IBC Biopsy Result
Hello,
I recently had a biopsy done testing for IBC, and though it came back negative, I'm still seeing no results from anitbiotics (round 3 just completed), if not getting worse. I received a call the other day from my mother who said her neighbor is going through her second bout with IBC and had stated her doctor (an IBC specialist) said that to properly cultivate a biopsy test for IBC it takes seven days and no less. I was wanting to see how many of you could say the same. I had received my results fairly quickly, biopsy done on a friday, results coming back on Monday and wanted to see if I needed to push for another test or see a new doctor. Thank you.

I haven't heard that. My biopsies were done Thurs afternoon and at the next morning the Radiologist called me with the path. report - positive IBC.
I didn't have any antibiotics before. I found the enlarged node under arm, my PA was out of town so it was a week til I saw her at 11 on Thurs. She took one look and had me at Radiology at 1 for a new mammo, followed by a sono and biopsies. Path. the next morning owed what they expected - IBC. Mon. I saw surgeon, Wed Rads, Thurs Chemo, scans and test and port implant and started Chemo 17 days after DX. -
I will definitely look for the thread on shingles. I'm really just trying to be patient and wait out my pregnancy and see how my breast is afterwards (have about 12 weeks left). Just like feeling semi-proactive and not just watching and waiting.

In 2007 before I got my IBC diagnosis, I was "required" to take three 10-day rounds of antibiotics to try and get rid of the rash I had on one breast. Remember this: If you don't have a fever, you don't have an infection. If you don't have an infection, you don't need any of the antibiotics. Tell this to your doctor. You're only supposed to take antibiotics for 5-7 days to see if it clears things up; if not, you should get a biopsy to rule IBC "in or out". IBC is very aggressive and can be deadly if not diagnosed and treated properly.
I finally got a "diagnostic" mammo and "diagnostic" ultrasound, both of which were specifically looking for the "sheeting" or "nesting" of the IBC tumors, not a solid lump. Those tests showed that I should have a biopsy or biopsies (I had 3 biopsies) to show whether or not I had IBC. I did have IBC. Chemo comes first with IBC, not surgery. Don't rush into surgery if you are not convinced that you don't have IBC.
