Wow - Finally figured out how to see the left hand portion of the screen that everyone else was seeing - yet my text was all the way from one side of the computer to the other.

I was 100% zoom and changed it to 75% zoom view.  Ok - great I can now see the table on the left hand side - that large gray margin everyone else was talking about.

Now the issue is that my font size is like a size 8 - too small to read when I respond and too small to read when I look at the other people's posts.

So basically I am screwed.  To have the complete page - I can't see the small print - or go back to 100% zoom view where I have two separate pages and have to continuously go back between the menu and the posts.

Komen admitted they screwed up and fixed it.  Why can't we?  Why can't we go back to the old style?

That question has been asked over and over again and nobody has yet to answer if that is a possibility.  Cut your losses NOW!  Keep your people here happy!

We had many good reasons for making these changes (they are stated throughout the site). But for those who find it terrible, we are curious what operating system and browser you are using. We truly appreciate any constructive advice and specific sharing of your experience. Even send us a screen shot !  We are working VERY hard backstage.

Here are the most recent deployments:

    * Tooled with site performance- i.e. speed.

    * Investigated and hopefully repaired reports of errant email notifications

    * Worked on fixing font sizes. Still working on the enlargement issue with iPads. Working with spacing and javascript performance issues.

    * Removed My Articles from the My Profile area completely.
    * Corrected the favorite topics count badge versus the NEW badging on the list. This was an issue with the code that redirects the user to the first "unread" post.
    * Added help topics for email notification settings.

    * Changed a number of settings and display for the moderators to help us trouble-shoot.

I know I'm being nitpicky but why does it say (member's name) replied to topic (topic's name) on (# of) minutes ago?

(As in Kate33 replied to New Format of BCO is a Disaster on 2 minutes ago.)

What's with the on?  Sorry, think I was a school teacher in a previous life but I don't think that's proper English.  Just sayin'.....

Mods - is there a problem with the function to update your avatar?  I have tried several times, unsuccessfully, and received this message:

"is not included in the list"

I am on a Win7 netbook with IE9.  I tried with Firefox and received the same error message.

    Thanks for your efforts!

Just wanted to remind everyone that we don't pay for this site. We get a lot for nothing (or donation if you have made one). I think it's OK to express your preference for the old site but I really don't feel we have the right to demand that BC.org puts the old one back. Give them time to fix what's wrong. I mean I miss my old boobs too but the new ones have some big advantages.

Well said ChrissyB, Lago, Shell and Kate33.

My son has been designing web pages, forums and moderating since he was about 12.  He said changes always bring these disgruntled reactions but a week later everyone has got used to it and settled down, and then the real problems can be seen and ironed out.  Constructive and detailed suggestions are always helpful, but the constant blaming and insults must be upsetting for the moderators. They are real people with real feelings!

I've tried many different forums over decades and Yahoo groups has to be the worst.  BCO has always been the easiest to use and still is apart from a few glitches that will soon be fixed.   Well done Moderators for trying to improve the forum despite all the lack of appreciation.

Thank you Lago and Joy - you took the words right out of my mouth, or off my fingertips Wink

It would be extremely helpful, not just to the Mods but to all of us, if people would post glitches or errors so that the programmers can track them and correct them as quickly as possible.  It would also help the rest of us to know that a problem has been reported.  But with all the emotional responses and accusations, it's hard to track what's happening.

As Ellen Degeneres states, let's "be kind to one another."  And assume that the changes were all made with the best of intentions.

Thank you for your help and understanding! It means alot to us!  I think that I'll post a new thread for glitches, errors, experiences, and leave these threads for blowing off the steam. I think that the most difficult part for us was to keep track of all the reports vs. rants.

I bet the Mods can't put people on "ignore." Bummer for them, as I can't imagine how frustrating it is to be talked down to and basically "yelled at" when they are here just to moderate a forum. And I know they aren't allowed to respond how they probably really want to! I hope they can vent to each other about how badly they are treated by some on these boards.

Let's get some perspective here, people. This is a free support board that a majority of users only need for a limited period of time. Change is hard, but get over it already and be constructive with your comments. Of course they aren't going to roll back to the old forums. So let's move forward and spend our time figuring out how to navigate the new site and noting areas for improvement to pass along to the Mods.

I can only hope that I am still around for the next re-design years from now. I would be thrilled to be here and hav to figure out a new design once again! I have goddamn cancer and if these forum changes could be the most challenging part of my day I would count myself incredibly lucky. Some of the inappropriately negative posts (meaning the ones that criticize without being constructive at all, the ones that insult the professionals that worked on this site, etc.) make me want to scream "SHAME ON YOU!"

When I first visited the site yesterday, I noticed it had changed, and thought I was going bonkers. Maybe it is the coloring that is so drab, especially on the left in that lost space.

The print is too small and though I tried to change it myself, I was unsuccessful.

To the Moderators, if you are trying to make more space on this website, please set limits on the amount and the size of the pictures that some folks post.

Thanks for trying, no matter how this ends up.

Again, thank you for your support! Embarassed

We just started a new topic in this forum, specifically for glitches, errors, bad viewing experiences, etc.

    http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/93/topic/787232

For those who need to express their frustrations, this is the topic! Please reserve the other for reports that we can keep track of, and fix. That way we can also let you know what we've been able to get to and what is causing US frustration.

    Thanks so much!

    Your Mods

KayB, I had 7 unread favourites, till I opened all my old threads which took ages. Some had an added page that I hadn't seen yet. At the end I still had one mysterious unread post and had to repeat till I found it and now there are only real, new unread posts.

Gosh, who knew a gray on gray background could be so cheery, warm and inviting!

BTW, we may not pay to use this site, but we are the content creaters that bring people to this site, free of charge.

    I'm about ready to resign.

I'm sure the Moderators have good intentions. BTW are the Mods volunteer members of BCO or how does one become a Mod. Justy interested.

Would it be possible to put a sticky somewhere obvious as to why the changes were necessary and what can and can't be rectified as it takes too long to read through this whole thread?

Hoping we can work together to get this sorted. I would really like to understand why the change was necessary.

flannelette, those ancient email addresses that aren't active any more can be a problem when you want to change something, and that's the address used to register. Send the Moderators name a private message with the address you want to replace it with, and we'll try to help.

Still not crazy about it, but trying to remain open minded and hoping the problems already detailed multiple times by others will all get resolved.  But I just have to say the new background color really hurts my eyes.  I'm on an iMac (like a 21" screen), and the background is just way too bright, while also being totally blah.  I'm thinking it's been tweeked at least once since the change, but could you maybe just try some other options?  Please?  This one is way too tiring on the eyes to want to stick with it.    Deanna

3jaysmom, is there a particular thread or tab where "back to top" isn't working for you?

Deanna, you're right that some changes have already been made, and more are in the works!

I'm still getting e-mail notifications even though I turned them off for all of my favorite topics.

I'm not having any trouble with speed and the "back to the top" link works for me.

riley the only emails you should be getting now are when you have a new private message, your membership is set to zero notifications for Favorite Topics. If you get any more new ones, would you mind sending us a PM, so we can troubleshoot? Thanks!

I stated this a few pages ago....  Yes, I am 74, but I find the "new" look is just as easy to navigate as the old one!  I didn't like the "change" at first, and I felt "lost," but reading all of these complaints, and the RANTing is a little over the top!

I think you can make your point without so much de-meaning, and talking down to the Mods!  Maybe you DO know more than them, but we are on "their" public site, and you don't have to constantly scold them for what you perceive as a wrong way of doing something.

I'm using AOL, and I am having NO problems with ANYthing, except maybe all the bad-mouthing.... Just sayin'.

I love it.  Large print, soft colours, so easy to read.  I can contract or expand whole sections on "All Forums".   Previously if I increased the print size in the old forum to make it more readable, then the print was too big on other sites so I tended to squint a lot.  No more pink or squinting. YAY!

Now's the time to ask for any changes, while they're working on it. What a great opportunity!
