Good morning! Not sure how I never found this thread before, but thought I'd join this morning and say hello.
I'm about to go in for my 9th of 10 dd treatments - can't wait to be done with chemo! I was originally slated for 4 x TC until my Onco score came back at 42, so I switched to 4 x dd AC and 6 x dd Taxol. Will meet with my RO shortly after my final chemo to discuss radiation. I know I need to do it but there's a small part of me that just doesn't want to risk the long term SEs. My tumor site is just above my heart and lungs and I'm so concerned about the potential for damage.
I'll be back later, I'm sure!
-
NancyHB: Welcome...we're happy to have you join us, unfortunately just not under these circumstances, but you are in good company. You will get a lot of comfort and support here as you navigate through your challenging tx options.
It seems you've been through the worst of tx. Congratulations on almost completing your chemo. I know the dilemma you are experiencing with facing rads tx. I too have left sided bc, but had a very low onco score, so didn't need chemo. My RO's assured me that there would be little if any heart and lung involvement in the type of radiation I would be getting, yet I still opted out. It was a decision I made because of my age (over 70).
If I had been as young as you, with an onco type score that high, I definitely would have made a different decision. Only you can make that final choice about what is best for your body. Do your own research regarding the pros and cons of radiation on someone your age with your grade and stage of bc. Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you.
As for the tamoxifen, my BS tells me that it is the better option because it not only protects the diseased breast, but the other breast as well as for distant mets. I am definitely taking that with little or no SE's.
Sending you prayers and positive energy!

Sheila woohoo on your ECG.
Annette so glad mom is doing better and going to skilled. They will have her rehabing and up in no time.
nancyhb glad all has gone well with your chemo. I remember you from the exercise thread. Have you been able to keep up with much of that during chemo? Kaara is right on the rads only you can make that decision of what is best for you.
-
annette: So glad you mom is doing better...what a relief for you!
-
Annette....Good News for mom♥♥
Any news from Granny????
-
Welcome NancyHB........♥
-
Welcome Nancyhb. The radiation they do now is much more precise and can usually miss most of the lungs and heart. It is a difficult decision but you want to around for the long haul so give yourself the best chance. Good luck.
-
Welcome nancyhb! My tumor was right above my heart also but I opted for the radiation because my tumor was so close to my chest wall that I had a small clear margin and was afraid that maybe they missed something. It is a hard decision but my RO kept telling me that it's not as bad as it used to be and that I would be fine. Hopefully. Tough decision indeed.
