Too early for April 2012 mastectomy?

Lisamarie, I didn't leave the hospital without a perscription for Diflucan.  I avoid antibiotics because I ALWAYS get a yeast infection.  One pill treatment and the yeast infection goes away.  It costs about $3.  I got the yeast infection after day 7 on antibiotics.  I just finished up my antibiotics (14 days) and I have another diflucan on hand and have started drinking Kefir (a liquid yogurt probiotic).  Hope this helps!

I have been assured that this lumpy mashed potato fake breast will look so much nicer in 5-6 months when I get my real implant.  The PS takes a great deal of pride in his final product.  I know it is hard to ignore what things look like now but you will see improvements once the real thing is in place!  I have 50 yr old boobs and the PS said he can make them both perky again so I'm looking forward and ignoring my current look.  I hope your tears dry and you see the sunshine again!  My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Hey everyone. It's been 5 days since surgery and I still haven't had a bowel movement. Other than that I'm doing ok. I am concerned with a black and blue area next to my drain site. There are stitches in the middle. I go Tue to see the PS so I'm sure she'll answer my questions.

. You may have had some bruising from the trauma of drain insertion. My sites are still a bit discolored and tender to touch, but it's getting better. I am still rashy/itchy over my trunk and waistline---everywhere except the foobs! I think I am allergic to tape or something they used on me in surgery. Stool softeners and milk of magnesia helped my plumbing work! Miralax is also good.

lisamarie, I am almost 4 weeks out, and this is the first day that I have not been totally annoyed by the tissue expanders. Muscle spasms (UGH!) dominated my day and night for the first 3.5 weeks, but they are pretty much gone. Walking really helps with muscle spasms and pooping. Hang in there. Do you have a friend or neighbor who can walk with you?

Thanks, Dianarose.  I am wondering if i should get a second opinion in Boston, too.  I don't think my scenario is all that unusual, though.  How long did it take you to get an appointment?  Are you going to Dana Farber?

 I am going to ttry some walking today as well ... maybe it will be nice out . Its been rainy and crappy here on Long Island no wonder ive felt so depressed as well can wait for sun .. I miss living in Florida  

Oh Id love a walk on jones beach , I know the rain sucks ...it keeps me depressed I am going to farmingdale tuesday to sleep over my daughters with her and my grandaughter .. cant wait ..

Nightnurse - I have the same question.

My scans are back!!!  And they are all good!  CT, Muga, bones, abdomen, chest, lungs, liver all clear.  I do have "very large gallstones" though...

Nightnurse, my oncologist told me I will have full breast radiation even with the mastectomy.  I asked him today.

 I start chemo May 21st.

vballmom- I am so happy your scans are clear . I had my first fill this morning. My boob looks great. I can't wait until she can fill the other one. It didn't hurt at all. I will admit it felt weird though. I had therapy for an hour afterwards. That did hurt, but I feel so much better afterwards. I went fishing last night and was able to cast. I was so happy. I got 8 fish and then the dam black flies were trying to carry me off so I was done.

Nightnurse- they will radiate your arm pit and above and below your collar bone. It's kind of weird, but we have a lot of nodes in those area's too.

I am going to Beth Israel on Friday afternoon. I am meeting with a breast MO there. It is one of the top cancer places so I will get his opinion and make my decisions on treatments after that.

For those of you who are discouraged with your expanders you just have to hang in there. I feel so much better today after the fill. I will have a better set than the originals when it's all done. Especially after I get the 3-D nipple tattoo. I think we should all get together afterwards and have a burning of the bra's party.

Vballmom, so wonderful hear that all your tests were clear. 

Thanks to all who provided tips on mastectomy bras and alternatives. Between being small and having the TE, I can go without one and no one know the wiser in lots of tops. But I'm a little bit of a fashonista, however, and occassionally have to go out so I'd love more tips on how I can wear my favorite tops and dresses. I don't recall who said it, but, yes, mastectomy bras are U-G-L-Y! I got one anyway but have only worn it once.  

Maybe our little regional cluster should plan lunch!

Beth Israel is in the Longwood area with all the other hospitals - Brigham & Womens, Dana Farber, etc.  If your not familiar with the area its a PITA to get to.  Check out there site....they have some pretty good directions.

so glad to hear all the good news .. yeah for u vball mom.. yeah maybe the pain meds were tearing me apart .. I had an amazing day today 2nd day off pain meds .. still uncomfortable not gonna lie .. but doable with tylenol ... I pray everyday for all of you that must continue to chemo land and radiation ,,, my love is with u always ... 

columbia , from what i understand is checking the nodes can tell if cancer had spread.. I am very happy for u and ur results , i too had same news , my BS said i made a good decision .. my only difference was the breast that had lcis and adh was full of it BS said it was very active ...
