Too early for April 2012 mastectomy?

Dianarose - so did the scans turn up nothing or just nothing to be concerned about? I've heard stories about them finding things that they have to test or watch. Trying not to freak, but it's too late.

Lisamarie, I didn't leave the hospital without a perscription for Diflucan. I avoid antibiotics because I ALWAYS get a yeast infection. One pill treatment and the yeast infection goes away. It costs about $3. I got the yeast infection after day 7 on antibiotics. I just finished up my antibiotics (14 days) and I have another diflucan on hand and have started drinking Kefir (a liquid yogurt probiotic). Hope this helps!
I have been assured that this lumpy mashed potato fake breast will look so much nicer in 5-6 months when I get my real implant. The PS takes a great deal of pride in his final product. I know it is hard to ignore what things look like now but you will see improvements once the real thing is in place! I have 50 yr old boobs and the PS said he can make them both perky again so I'm looking forward and ignoring my current look. I hope your tears dry and you see the sunshine again! My prayers and thoughts are with you.
-
Thanks Valerie , I am calling tomorrow to PS for diflucan , hopes he can call it in . I am sure the nurse will he is the sweetest man , I know going through everything I didnt even think about the antibiotics and the yeast .. I know for me everytime they give me them I always ask for diflucan no matter what but I guess with this it was so traumatic and terrifying that I forgot
so tomorrow I will call .. as for the day I made it all day without pain meds .. I am totally tired oof puking and not pooping . I gave them up ... today I ate much better now that i didnt have pain meds .. I wont take it for bed either .. Hoping I can drink a cup of coffee in the morning as I have not been able to without throwing up .. Love and Hugs to u all

Hey everyone. It's been 5 days since surgery and I still haven't had a bowel movement. Other than that I'm doing ok. I am concerned with a black and blue area next to my drain site. There are stitches in the middle. I go Tue to see the PS so I'm sure she'll answer my questions.
-
Dianarose and vballmom: I am so glad you responded. I didn't know if they were supposed to look like that or not! I had my first fill one week after the bmx and it feels like someone slipped in my room while I was asleep and filled my bra with cement! I had skin sparing and that was why my PS did the fill then because I had too much excess skin . However, i got the path report after the surgery and they found the 8 positive nodes out of 10 sent, so the PS said I would need rads now and he may have to take out the TE's. I guess that means another surgery to remove the TE. Will they do chemo and rads simultaneously? Or do they do the rads then chemo or vice versa? The TE that I have has the metal fill port and that is why they have to come out before rads?
-
Markat,
. You may have had some bruising from the trauma of drain insertion. My sites are still a bit discolored and tender to touch, but it's getting better. I am still rashy/itchy over my trunk and waistline---everywhere except the foobs! I think I am allergic to tape or something they used on me in surgery. Stool softeners and milk of magnesia helped my plumbing work! Miralax is also good.
lisamarie, I am almost 4 weeks out, and this is the first day that I have not been totally annoyed by the tissue expanders. Muscle spasms (UGH!) dominated my day and night for the first 3.5 weeks, but they are pretty much gone
. Walking really helps with muscle spasms and pooping. Hang in there. Do you have a friend or neighbor who can walk with you?
Prayers to all!

nightnurse- I you having rads on both sides? I was told that the side they are raditating needs to be filled first because it is too hard to fill after rads because of the changes in the skin. I am only having the right side filled and the left will be filled after rads.
vballmom- they found nodules on the lungs which didn't surprize me because of the rads I had almost 8 yrs ago. I had lung issues from the rads about 6 months after they were completed. They didn't appear to be cancerous, but of course they are going to watch them. More scans. I had to take Xanax to get thru the last one. I have been a total train wreck for months. I am sorry about your positive nodes. I am getting a 2nd opinion in Boston on a treatment plan because of my low onco score of 6.
-
Thanks, Dianarose. I am wondering if i should get a second opinion in Boston, too. I don't think my scenario is all that unusual, though. How long did it take you to get an appointment? Are you going to Dana Farber?
-
vballmom- I think I am going to Beth Israel. It did not take long at all. My MO here called for me and sent over my file the same day. Even if the end results are the same I will feel better knowing that I got another opinion. Beth Israel will be having openings for the vaccine soon. That is why he was trying to get me in there.
-
Mrkat welcome back . hope all goes well , I totally understand the not pooping thing , I am 2 days pain med free and am feeling better stomach wise .. Hugs ..
Nightnurse , sorry about the nodes ..
Hugs to u , Vballmom sorry about urs as well .. Hugs .. Diana rose is a trooper as she has been threw the most I think .. I luv ya dianarose u are such an inspiration to me .
I wish u all the best ..
I am going to ttry some walking today as well ... maybe it will be nice out . Its been rainy and crappy here on Long Island no wonder ive felt so depressed as well
can wait for sun .. I miss living in Florida
-
lisamarie, I have promised myself to do some walking today. I hear the rain is coming back this week. I used to live near Jones Beach - gosh, I miss the ocean.
-
Oh Id love a walk on jones beach , I know the rain sucks ...it keeps me depressed
I am going to farmingdale tuesday to sleep over my daughters with her and my grandaughter .. cant wait ..
-
Dianarose: Since I had the total mastectomy and it was nodes positive, can they just radiate the axillary area? They are just doing the right one. Left was prophylactic.
-
Nightnurse - I have the same question.
-
plymoth, if I could I would be rolling on floor belly laughing at your husbands help etc. I have found my husband to be the same way. Really, the same way. I don't feel so bad now. I was feeling really unloved by him but he is doing the best he can. I recommend everyone that will have a caretaker for a few days after surgery read the "caretaker" manual about backrubs, constant care, etc. etc.

My scans are back!!! And they are all good! CT, Muga, bones, abdomen, chest, lungs, liver all clear. I do have "very large gallstones" though...
Nightnurse, my oncologist told me I will have full breast radiation even with the mastectomy. I asked him today.
I start chemo May 21st.
-
Congrats on the good scan results Vballmom! yea!!!!
-
vballmom- I am so happy your scans are clear
. I had my first fill this morning. My boob looks great. I can't wait until she can fill the other one. It didn't hurt at all. I will admit it felt weird though. I had therapy for an hour afterwards. That did hurt, but I feel so much better afterwards. I went fishing last night and was able to cast. I was so happy. I got 8 fish and then the dam black flies were trying to carry me off so I was done.
Nightnurse- they will radiate your arm pit and above and below your collar bone. It's kind of weird, but we have a lot of nodes in those area's too.
I am going to Beth Israel on Friday afternoon. I am meeting with a breast MO there. It is one of the top cancer places so I will get his opinion and make my decisions on treatments after that.
For those of you who are discouraged with your expanders you just have to hang in there. I feel so much better today after the fill. I will have a better set than the originals when it's all done. Especially after I get the 3-D nipple tattoo. I think we should all get together afterwards and have a burning of the bra's party.
-
For those of you moving onto chemo, don't sweat it too much. For me, it wasn't that bad....nothing like what you think it will be. Happy to answer any questions. I had dose dense AC/T.
Also, I'm treated at Dana Farber....can't say enough good things about them. -
mardibra- did you work during chemo? Where is Beth Israel and do I have to drive over the Tobin bridge? I absolutely hate that bridge.
-
We've got quite a cluster of girls in our region - did you notice?
-
Yay, Markat!
Vballmom, so wonderful hear that all your tests were clear.
Thanks to all who provided tips on mastectomy bras and alternatives. Between being small and having the TE, I can go without one and no one know the wiser in lots of tops. But I'm a little bit of a fashonista, however, and occassionally have to go out so I'd love more tips on how I can wear my favorite tops and dresses. I don't recall who said it, but, yes, mastectomy bras are U-G-L-Y! I got one anyway but have only worn it once.
-
I worked throughout all of chemo...worked "from the chair" on chemo tx day.
In order to avoid the Tobin Bridge (I cant go over that bridge without thinking about Charles Stuart jumping off of it after he killed his wife and unborn son), I would take 95 South to 93 South. 93 will help you avoid the bridge (and the toll).
-
Maybe our little regional cluster should plan lunch!
-
I got my last drain out Yahoooooo! and my first fill since surgery. Looking at myself in the mirror, I'm definitely lopsided. The real boob sits much lower than the foob! Hmmmmmm......I guess I will have to walk sideways, lol.
Lisamarie, You sound like your in a much better mood! It's great you are off your pain meds. Maybe they were affecting your mood. They make me feel a bit off and I'm really glad I don't need them anymore.
-
Beth Israel is in the Longwood area with all the other hospitals - Brigham & Womens, Dana Farber, etc. If your not familiar with the area its a PITA to get to. Check out there site....they have some pretty good directions.
-
Yes, mastectomy bras are awful. Nothing attractive about them but considering ive only got one boob left i need the ugly things to help even me out.
-
so glad to hear all the good news .. yeah for u vball mom.. yeah maybe the pain meds were tearing me apart .. I had an amazing day today 2nd day off pain meds .. still uncomfortable not gonna lie .. but doable with tylenol ... I pray everyday for all of you that must continue to chemo land and radiation ,,, my love is with u always ...
-
vballmom Great news !!!! 1 am so happy for the result of your test.
I got my pathology report today!!It was good DCIS 2 CM no invasive cancer in either breast no limphs compromise.
I should be excited about the results and I am but the Dr said that I won't need chemo or radiation or any hormone therapy because I was agresive with my treatment and have both of my breast removed with such a small area with cancer? How they know that the cancer hasn"t spreed to toher areas?
My family was so happy when I got the news they trow a mini party and I was just thinking that they might be missing something?.
Maybe I am crazy.
I am so happy that all of us are getting stonger to continue our fight!!!
-
columbia , from what i understand is checking the nodes can tell if cancer had spread.. I am very happy for u and ur results , i too had same news , my BS said i made a good decision .. my only difference was the breast that had lcis and adh was full of it BS said it was very active ... Best wishes ..xoxoxoxox Lisa
