Prior Gastric Bypass

I am concerned with all the side effects of chemotherapy considering that I had a previous  gastric bypass and , as a result , have chronic anemia.  I am worried that the chemo will beat me down too far.  I already take hemocyte plus TWO a day and TWO Silver Centrum vitamins each day.  Is there anyone out there who has had a previous gastric bypass and then chemo?  I would love to hear about your experiences with this.

Wow, am I the only one who has had gastric bypass previously and then been diagnosed with cancer?   What made this a problem for me also was that I had a tummy tuck and breast lift after gastric bypass that made the nipple-sparing not possible also the abdominal flap not possible.  If I had only known then what I know now........

hi-didn't see your post before-- i had posted on the dietary boards when i was diagnosed and it seemed no one wanted to reply.....you are NOT alone!

i had bypass (open RNY---you?)in 2004--i spoke with my MO about this and he seems to be only concerned about B12--

your bloodwork will be monitored before each TX...

be sure that your MO knows about the anemia---- and if you have a bypass nutritionist-visit with them?

i have found my biggest issue to be the sugar lows and highs  that i incur from the steroids after each TX...and i wanna eat everything in sight  so i have to force my proteins.....

    keep me posted-k?

Sweeeeeet!!!!  Thank you, Lumpynme for your response!!!  I was beginning to think that I was alone on this planet!  I had open RNY in 2001 and lost >120+ lbs.  It was the start of  whole new life for me and I would do it over again in a heartbeat.  I have had no side effects from the surgery until the anemia almost 11 years after the surgery.  And I must say that I only took the vitamins for the first year or two.  That is my fault.  If I had taken them like I was supposed to, I might not be anemic now.  I eat very healthy and stay very active.  That is the only way I can keep the weight off and have it stay off.  I am very grateful for your advice and I will pay close attention to all of it.  I will keep you posted too !!!!   Glad to "meet" you!

Lumpynme:  I haven't had any problems with the gastric bypass and cancer/chemo.  So far so good.  I am halfway thru chemo and have rads next.  Have not had ANY nausea or vomiting.  So blessed!  Hope you are doing well....Kitten

its been a few years since this post... just wondering how you are doing.

I had RNY 2014, just starting this rollercoaster journey and I had terrible stomach aches and cramping throughout rounds 1 & 2 of TCHP. Monday, 6/24, I have new Onc and changing to 4 rounds AC and then 2 rounds of THP (texotere).

I did not like milk before, now it's all I can tolerate, water tastes so bad no matter how I try to doctor it up. Dehydration issues too.

    Any Advice?
